Questviewer not responding problem
« on: August 20, 2010, 15:24:08 »

After installing Ship simulator 2008 and mission editor both, when I am trying to play Shipsim2008, then one Vstep window popups, after 100% loading nothing is happening, questviewer gets hang. I can't even play Mission editor also. There also same problem. I did install and uninstall several times, but no change in situation.

I am using Vista Home premium 64 Bit with 4 GB RAM, Intel Core2Duo P8600 processor.

Can any one help me how to resolve this issue? I am much eager to play this game.

Please let me know if questviewer may conflict with any software...

Thanks in advance.

Hello there tusharchakra, welcome to the forums :)

What graphics card do you have? Have you installed the latest drivers for your graphics card, plus all updates for windows?

Secondly, if you are unsure as to if you have the latest drivers, or would prefer someone else check for you, you can post your system information on the forum so we can help.

To do this follow these steps...

1. Go to start, and click on 'Run'.

2. When the run box appears, type in 'dxdiag' into the box and click 'Ok'.

3. If a message appears click 'Yes' and a window will open giving you information about your computer.

4. To get a copy of your report click the button that says 'Save all information...'. Save the file to your desktop.

5. Attach this text file to your next post and we will be able to see information about your computer to help.

Regards,
Adam

Hi mvsmith,

I am trying to play with the demo version to check whether I can play this game in my laptop or not. If it's running well, then I will plan to purchase the game. But unfortunately I am facing the problem with QuestViewer, it's not responding.

I don't have any license key, so how to register and get technical support?

Please help me to play with the demo version so that I can purchase this game. I am much eager to play, but unfortunately it's not playable at my laptop.

Please suggest what to do...

Hi tusharchakra,

I apologize; I assumed from your mention of the mission editor that you had the full game.

Be sure that you install and run the program as administrator.

I see nothing in your DxDiag that would prevent you from running the demo, but it might not give satisfactory performance for the full game. Few laptops do.

Please tell me exactly what message you see concerning QuestViewer.

There is much information on this forum about QuestViewer problems and how to properly run under Vista. Unfortunately it is all on sections of the forum that can be accessed only by registered users.

Thanks mvsmith

lol... thought that demo version would contain both shipsim and mission editor.

Any way, I am explaining you about the problem I am facing.

After installation, right click on the desktop icon and run as Administrator.
Then one small popup window opens showing the load percentage. When 100% completed, then window goes to full screen mode. There I can see v s t e p letters appended one by one.
After that blue sceen appears. After waiting 10 mins approx, I can't see any change, I need to press ctrl-alt-dell to close the process. In task bar I can see QuestViewer not responding message.

I tried to run this exe by stopping unwanted other processes, but still no luck.

I did these processes for several times including reinstallation, but everytime there is same fact.

Please help me to run this game in my laptop, for GOD shake I want to purchase this game if it runs well.

Also please tell me how do I get access to the registered forum to see the solution.

Plz plz help me...

Hi tusharchakra,

One of the developers has suggested an updated driver for your video adapter is available:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R227577&SystemID=STUDIO1555&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=20016&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=2&catid=6&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=6&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=326436 (http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R227577&SystemID=STUDIO1555&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=20016&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=2&catid=6&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=6&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=326436)
Beyond that, I can only suggest that you wait for someone else to offer another suggestion.
The demo consists of only one mission and does not include the editor.
In your first post, you said that you installed both SS 2008 and the Mission Editor. I’m curious as to how you did that.

Many many thanks for the support.
Let me install the suggested driver and see what will happen.
Also waiting for someone who can give me another good suggestions. This is most welcome.

Actually that was my misunderstanding that I thought the demo version would contain both Shipsim2008 and mission editior. So after installation the setup, I thought I had installed both.
Is it different from main exe?

Let me know, if I want to purchase this game, should I have to purchase both setup or single setup?

But I am desperately trying to run the demo version in my laptop to test the game and play before purchasing, need to be sure about it's system requirement.
I think my laptop is high end, but little bit confused after seeing your comment that it might not support the full game features.
Please tell me what does it require further for playing the full game without any interruption?

Hi tusharchakra,

If you were to purchase SS 2008, I would suggest the Collectors Edition because the DVD installs everything without the need for handling separate updates.
However, if your computer cannot run the demo, it certainly will not run the full game.

The most common cause for the game not to start is lack of available memory. Your graphics adapter, which is not well suited to games, uses system memory. Other applications or services that may be running will also reduce available memory. I suggest that you restart your computer before you try running the demo.

Laptops often run in a low-power mode by default. Be sure that your have selected a “performance” option if such is available.
Perhaps others may be able to offer a solution.

Regards,
Marty

Hi tusharchakra,

To add to Marty's reply above, havign restarted your laptop be sure to close anything running in the background too, such as windows messenger and any other programs that you do not need.

Is it possible that some programs may stop QuestViewer to run properly?

Yes, that is why it is difficult to give specific help when we don’t know everything that is on your computer.

Having the wrong version of QuestViewer as a result of trying to install other SS downloads might cause a problem.
