Video Card for SS Extremes
« on: July 16, 2010, 12:30:52 »

Hy there.I was wondering if my Nvidia Geforce 8600M GS with 256 Mb ram @ 128 bit dedicated up to 1500 Mb ram shared, will be good enough for SS extremes!?!?!?
At requirements say's Geforce 8800 GT with 256 Mb ram (at least shader model 3.0).
On nvidia's web site writtes that 8600M GS supports shader model 4.0.But I was thinking to buy a better one.
Any ideeas

SNAP! I have the same card.

It nicks a lot of RAM from elsewhere, so you need to think about how much RAM you have, and the speed of your processor.

I shouldn't worry about the card's capability to actually show SSE, but your computer's ability to run it.

Actually it's a laptop.Fujitsu siemens xi 2528 with cre2duo T7700 2.4 Ghz (Santa Rossa) 4 MB L2 Cache 800 mhz FSB 4 gb ram.So, I belive that I have enough power from the processor & ram as well is enough I belive.
Best option is to wait & see how the video card will show the game. No? ;)

Yeah, I knew it was a laptop because it was a laptop card

I agree that you'll have to wait and see on the graphics, but I have bad news for you. The processor requirements went up to 3.0GHz  :'(

In the slightly modified words of Mr. T, 'pity the fool with the 2.15GHz processor'(me)

You might be OK, though.

Come on.... :o That much??? I belive it will be ok.... The laptop it handels very good SS 08.At full details actually.I belive T7700 at 2.4 Ghz with 4 Mb L2 Cache will do..But, still better to see first. If not, then I will take i7 & finished.
But wait : System requirements -Processor: 3 Ghz P4 Intel or AMD equivalent processor
So, beetwen 3 Ghz P4 Intel & Core2Duo T7700 2.4 Ghz if I'm not mistaking there is a pretty good difference.
But you, what processor you have? It's a Mr. T like you call it or other one

We have all asked for improved graphics, bigger environments, a more realistic looking water surface, more detailed vessels with more functions etc.
Of course this requires more computing power. And of course this can't be achieved with an old machine or an office laptop. That is the price of progress - the most actual software requires at least relatively actual hardware. Otherwise i could have kept my Amiga. Laptop users - except owners of extreme expensive gamer models - must always be prepared that a game won't run properly.

When I noticed the requirement changes I was disappointed, too. But I remember months ago, when the first screenshots appeared, I already stated that I was concerned about if my PC could run SSEx. Even with the now known system requirements I'm not sure if my machine can run the game properly or not, as I don't know if my processor is "equivalent" or not. I just have to wait until a demo version is available.

By the way, as you mention Virtual Sailor, you might have noticed, that its successor, Vehicle Simulator, requires better hardware, too.

Well I'm happy I've updated my computer from 8800GT to HD5870 Vapor-X and from 4 Gb RAM to 6 Gb and dual core to I7 quad core.
All I need now is to replace old hard drives with new SSDs, but I think I will have to wait with that until they get cheaper. Well I hope I'm prepared for SSEx  :)
Only about one month to wait now ;D

Yeah.I have searched for 9600M GTX video card & I think I will replace the 8600M GS.Think it will be enough. But as  "krytsch " say's: we have to wait to see how the pc/laptop's will show the game.
But, does enyone knows what specs have the computers of those who tried SSex?Because I have read in the past that some people tried it & came with suggestions for development. ???
