Are there virtual ship companys on this game???

and if not im going to start my own also i would use teamspeak that way players would not have to use that chat box if they wanted to. They could use MIC'S

Before you join, be prepared for thousands of different companies ran by the same people, and unfair and corrupt administration. Next to none of the fansites have good rules or valuable staff members, most of them are filled with corruption. Be ready to be banned or kicked from something for no reason or have a staff member who doesn't like you ban you for no reason. Don't get sucked into it. There are however, 1 or 2 good ones, but I'm not going to pick favorites.

Yes, I've experienced it. That's why I don't go on fansites anymore. Most of them people end up mocking anyway, it's harsh but true indeed.

Hi there princetonbanks, I think I saw you late last year sometime!

The simple answer is yes, there are 'Virtual' Communities; as WM kindly posted up there, there's a link to all the 'main' forums that are running at the moment. I run one myself, which is based mainly on towing, but as a little community in general we have a lot of fun - Especially on the server at the weekends.

We currently have 80 members now, and would be happy for you to join us if you do so wish - I send out E-mails every time the {IJTS} Server is online, which is generally a favourite server for the majority. (In case you're wondering, IJTS stands for IRI5HJ4CK's Towing Service, or as some people call it, the IRI5HJ4CK Towing Company.)

IJTS is run by myself (IRI5HJ4CK), Mike (ShipAddict), Matt (Captain Matt), Sean (Saphire), MJ (Ballast) & Adam (Captain Spencer), as well as Fred, who oversee's things. But we have many active members, on top of the staff, like vh.94, Lagan Viking (who ironically runs VTC ), The Ferry Man, jakespin118, Firestar, Captain Mike, Cawky, etc. (You get the idea )

A word of caution but...

With Extremes only a few months away, it seems the community are becoming fed up waiting. Think of it as an economy - when people dont want to buy/aren't in the mood to buy, things close down. This is coming from experience at Viking Tug Company. We have seen activity fall lots recently. There wasn't as much activity as say IJTS, but the decline in activity is noticable. Such forums/Virtual Companies have folded as a result of this downturn such as Titan Shipping. Others are as empty as ghost towns, with last posts dating back to January - even 2009 on one forum! As Jack has pointed out im an avid member of IJTS, which boasts 80+ members, but even there things have become quiet. Im not trying to put you off, but just need to bare things in mind.

Hopefully when Extremes comes out, things should take off again  This is the calm before the storm hopefully

As you say Mark, thing's do become naturally quieter over time. But I guess most of that at IJTS was down to the fact that Matt wasn't well there for a long time, and we hadn't got a server. And with MJ (Ballast) being away, it's landed on us like a ton of bricks...for the time being, that is

As you say, no doubt there will be an influx of members when SSE is bought, at least then there will be some new faces, too.

I created IJTS purely to try jog MP again, because lets be honest, it was diabolical for over a year. Because I missed the old MP that we used to have, it was great fun.

There's a difference between yes, these companies that (were) getting churned out every week, that were closed the next week after...I see IJTS as a more serious forum, on the levels of SSHM, MPSS, etc. I don't pay out yearly to walk around the forum myself, you know...

You might not be interested in IJTS, or the server at the weekend...but there are people who are and get enjoyment out if it.

Now you should understand that I wasn't speaking directly about IJTS, but about the reason of reducing the activity everywhere in whole.

The good server I think is the only thing that gives your company an advantage over those one day wonders, especially at present time when one should be lucky enough to find if only one usermade server in the list.

WM I don't mean to rain on your parade but of all of the community forums IJTS is the ONLY ONE you registered at so we must offer something you like. And of course the server would give us the upper hand but don't forget VTC also had community server(s). And many of the community servers don't have a purpose, unlike Jacks which has a main purpose of towing. You say all of them are useless and I see that you weren't speaking directly about IJTS, but don't be critical saying the server is the only thing that gives us a "lead" because we have great people at IJTS and I don't think it is the ONLY thing that gives us a lead.

Okay, I apologize its one of the few you've became involved in, I shouldn't say things without all the facts. Regardless you have became a member at IJTS and you aren't a member at many other forums...(Could be wrong) even if, we must offer something that you like for you to become a member, no?

I don't think that's a very fair statement...Sure, the server gives us the 'edge', in that sense, but; I thought long and hard about the design, and how I was going to approach it - It wasn't something I just decided to create overnight.

I don't really call IJTS a company, to me, it's a community, and that was why it was made in the first place, for others to use and be welcome into - the server accompanying that. I also think it'd be fair to say I don't approach IJTS as a business. Yes, I advertise it, and I try my very best to...but i'm not out there to try and mow other 'companies' down, if that's what you're trying to suggest.

For me it's just nice enough to feel that IJTS has been embraced by the community. I've had some really nice messages, and support for it, and i'd like to thank Matt in particular for all his hard work with the server - he doesn't have to do that, but he does - as well as all the other members of the team, like Sean, Mike, MJ, and Adam.

To me, IJTS is just a nice friendly community, and I would like it to stay that way, and I hope, that SSE will bring more new members that will enjoy it...I've been here a long time now, and there are members here now like Shane, or Matt, who I remember greeting on their first days here...It's nice to think that I might of some way made their experience here a little more interesting. (I hope, anyway! )

When you make a virtual company, make sure with VSTEP it is ok aswell, Like just if you wanted to use screenshots of the game on your website/forum or  something so its all ok.
When we created a virtual radio company "Ship Sim Radio" we had to ask permission to use the name and logo and screenshots, just to make sure we werent upsetting anyone. 
And if its going to be named after an official company like "Red Funnel Virtual" it's a good idea to ask permission from them aswell
