Some say releasing the system with a $599 price tag was a mistake. It priced them out of the market and really slowed down the momentum they had built up the PSone and PS2. But then again, I don't think that could have been helped. It was, and still is, a pretty technologically advanced machine. New tech=lots of money.

The removal of backwards compatibility was shocker to me. That's always been one of Sony's best selling points and a real symbol of appreciation to their loyal customer base. To see it removed completely from their system was a slap in the face.

But right now, I'd have to say Sony's slow adoption of online features is probably their largest, and still on-going, mistake. Sony really needs to buckle down and provide an online service comparable to the 360's. And while they're at it, actually adding new and innovative features too. Things that their competition don't have. Instead, they seem focused on removing features instead of implementing new ones. I have my fingers crossed for this year's E3 though. Really hope they have something cool down the pike.

Their biggest mistake with PS3 was that it wasn't the Wii.

But yeah, removing backwards compatibility was a really stupid move, people had to start again whichever system they bought so there was no incentive for PS2 users to stick with Sony the way there had been for PS 1 users to upgrade to PS2.  That combined with the fact that the competition was much hotter was just too big a hurdle to overcome.

My only thoughts on backward compatability are that - at first you think "Oh no! I can't play my games!" but when you actually start to play the PS3 Games, the difference in the quality is unreal...but yeah, i'd agree that it'd put a lot of people off at first. And I still don't know why Sony didn't make the PS3 capable of that...
