Flightsim aircraft info changes
« on: May 01, 2010, 17:21:18 »

Hi there, is it possible in flightsim 02 to change the text written in the in-game 'performance specifications' list and the name of the airline on the aircraft select menu?  ???

you can change the text written in the cfg file.

but you should ask this on the flightsim forum, not on the shipsim forum :P

I just put it here as I am not a member of the flightsim forum and I thought this would be easier.
Which program should I use to open the cfg file, their doesn't seen to be a specific program to open it with?

You can open the cfg. file in Word or a similar program if I remember correctly

Ye, I though it would be easier than joining hundreds of other forums as I am already a member of this one (shipsim was the very first forum I ever joined), plus theres always someone on here that knows the info I'm looking for, thanks anyway. :2thumbs:

Hi Graeme,

I suggest that you use Notepad instead of Word to open the .cfg files to avoid introducing extraneous formatting when you save.

Regards,
Marty

If anyone gives you a hard time about asking here, ignore them. Compared to much of what gets posted here, yours shows some intelligent purpose.

Hi Graeme - I would definitely use notepad, and you will find within the first dozen or so lines of the aircraft.cfg where to alter the aircraft type, details and ATC name etc. If you are dealing with an addon aircraft that maybe doesn't have all these fields you can paste in from a default aircraft and modify that - just be careful not to change what the sim uses as names (model, panel, sound, texture etc). You can also get FSEDIT running and just use it to alter those details without going on to change the aerodynamics, but first check in the .cfg that it is set to 'editable=1' Back everything up first.
Having said that I thought you might want to know that you can join many FS sites for free - the best in my opinion is Flightsim.com and you will find a lot of very good freeware aircraft and scenery on it - all  developed by people like me!. I have so much extra aeroplanes and helis, scenery etc. that would lose with later sims that I stick to FS2002 as my main one and only sometimes use the other ones. Same really with Shipsim - I still sail SS06 on occasions but mostly use SS08. Hope this helps

Thanks for all the help guys, I've got it sorted now. Two more questions, I've just installed a new panel for a b757-200, the new panel appears on cockpit view but I can't get anything on virtual cockpit view, how do I get it aswell? ???

Also, I've been looking for a download for a 'Fresh! Airlines' 737 (from the TV series 'Mile High'), I've searched on google but all I could find was posts on different forums which were of no help at all, Could someone please put me in the right direction? :)

are you sure there is both regular cockpit and virtual cockpit in the panel you installed? If its only regular cockpit you will only see outside the aircraft in virtual cockpit view

I'm sure it's virtual cockpit, when it's in virtual cockpit view all that can be seen (other than the outside scenery) is the wings, tailfin and undercarriage when the view is swung around to look behind.

Here's a question I would realy like answering. If I have an aircraft that only has one texture file and I decide to add another texture, how would I rewrite the 'aircraft' file to accomodate two textures and for it to work?

Often when you download a texture there is also a "read me" document where the text you need to copy into your aircraft.cfg file
It should be something like this:

[fltsim.0]
title=Boeing 737-800 Paint1
..................and further on

the next line should begin with (fltsim.1)

A lot of the textures i download has the required text in a "read me"
and then you just change the(fltsim.?) to the next number who is available in your aircraft model.

Example:

If I have a model with last line of  texture:(fltsim.12)

I just name the new texture line (fltsim.13) and copy/paste the text who followed the new texture into the aircraft.cfg file.

Sorry if this is more confusing then helpful ???
Also it might be different from FSX and FS9
If there isn't a "read me" file with the new texture I don't know what you should do.

Great, it worked. :2thumbs: I was wondering how could I create a texture of the plane (pictured below) for Marcel Kuhnt's popular BN Islander?
