2006 v 2008
« on: March 05, 2010, 16:36:48 »

I've just come back to Shipsim after a long time elsewhere, and cannot quite figure out the relationship between 2006 Collectors Edition and 2008.  How come the earlier one seems to have more facilities and better graphics?  Can someone please enlighten me?
I would be quite happy to get a modern version of 2008, if that is what is needed.  How do I get to find out what version I am running? Most progs have an 'about' line in the help or headings, not here as far as I can see.
They both seem to be genuine issue, the 2006 has a printed out cd code attached, the 2008 has a cd code on the back of the handbook... and I paid the full price at the time...
Please can somebody enlighten me, I dont know which updates to install or which to run.
Thanks in anticipation, Mart7

Hi Mart7,

The version and build numbers for SS 2008 are shown in the bottom left corner of the main menu screen when you start Ship Simulator 2008. The latest is V 1.4.2 build 1038.

If there was a 2006 Collector’s Edition, it was before my time.
The 2008 Collector’s Edition (on DVD) has both the latest update to Ship Simulator 2008 along with New Horizons (the major add-on to SS 2008).  Because New Horizons has been out for a long time, the majority of Custom Missions require ships from NH.

There is a flowchart that you can download to guide you in updating Ship Simulator 2008:
