Passage planning program?
« on: December 13, 2009, 15:01:45 »

Is there any program for passage planning, with maps of the world, and tools to plan passages?

Thanks

I don't think you have those programs for free. You could use the electronic chart cataloque of the British Admiralty to collect all the charts you need.

For making waypoints including bearings and distances, and ocean track planning (great circle, rhumb line and/or composite track) you could use CNAV.  You can also use CNAV for astronomical navigation, tide calculations and such.

Try Visual Passage Planner 2 from www.digiwave.com
It uses the US Weather Routing Charts.

This should be the link Aussieseafarer  :)

www.digwave.com

At our company the programme SPOS is used. It's updated twice a day with new weather information by email. If necessary SPOS adjust the planned ocean track if the weather ahead exceeds the pre-selected parameters. The user can set up maxium windforce and direction, maximum waveheight etc.
