Non SS Related Computer Problem

I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong board however when I start up my PC windows loads fine I click my username and it loads I see my desktop background but I dont see the start menu or taskbar for another few minutes. It used to be very quick starting up.

Interesting problem there, i'd run a virus scan to see if you picked up a virus. There might be certain programs that start up with windows that are slowing it down. Other than that i'm not sure what is the issue.

This isn't in 06 And I have nothing starting up other than AVG  I was running a scan before...nothing came up.

I had this problem a few years back, it turns out I had too many anti virus programs etc that were starting up when the computer was turned on.

Have you tried booting into safe mode?

I misread what you said. Matt, have you kept a log of what executable files run on startup?
It also might help to check out what's inside
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Currentversion/Run
See if anything is out of the ordinary there. If you don't find anything, try a system restore.

Personally I'd say there is too much starting up with windows causing it to be slow

Check any boot logs you have, Matt. One of the things I dislike about windows is all of the processes starting up, you don't see what's happening, it's all covered by that damned loading bar. I guess that's what logs are for though.
