If by company you mean White Star Lines, that was American—owned by J.P. Morgan.
It employed an English staff to operate the ship.

Well I always thought White Star were British because theyw ere based here, I knew they were american owned.

anyway, the important thing is Titanic was a ship. never mind what nationality she was.

Hi Stu,
You might say, as others have, that merchant ships today have no nationality. They may be owned by a multinational corporation, flagged in a land-locked country they have never visited, and built in an Asian shipyard of a European shipbuilder.

I find the idea of land locked Countries having merchant ships flagged their quite odd, but I suppose it's not when you stop and think about it.

Since it was flagged in Britain it should have been a British Board of Trade enquiry into the sinking. From my understanding both the British and American inquiries were looking for a simple scapegoat to avoid having to admit to failings by both Governments into their safety requirements.

Was the lifeboat requirement not XXX above YYY tonnes? And no one considered Titanic size ships when legislation was drafted? OK... that's reasonable, given speed of development- but then not to notice as ships got bigger and bigger...

the watertight compartments is a invention from germany...or the swimming crane whos installed the smokestaks,machine parts etc.

the grand piano and the gym equitment coming from germany...aye and lagerbeer from munich 
the art objects like to install in the cabins and rooms curtains,textiles house painter and decorator and artists where from italy and france...savvy

I thought the idea of making ships watertight originated in the Orient... But I wouldn't want to start an arguement over it.

You can also say that it was fierce competition on the transatlantic routes from German liners, as well as those of Cunard, that drove the failing White Star Line to invest in the Olympic class ships.

J. P. Morgan—owner of White Star—had hopes of monopolizing the Atlantic trade to the point where he could set the fares. He acquired White Star with the help of Lord Pirie—a major stockholder in WS, but was thwarted in his attempt to acquire Cunard. Cunard used the threat of his takeover to obtain heavy subsidies and technical help from the British Government.
Without Cunard, Morgan was losing money on WS. He authorized Ismay to have H&W build the largest ships they could.
