This is the 2nd time that I find the same textures made by me uploaded by someone that call himself shiplover for a profile called silja to the VS Library (http://library.qualitysimulations.com/library.php). The add-on is named HSC Viking.

If I remember correctly silja is a member of this forum too right?
Well I'm not surprised that it happens again. Looks like someone wants to make their own rewritten version of laws that any artists that makes content even if its art, 3D models, paintings, oil paintings belongs to.
He who called himself "shiplover" did do it because he somehow could not remove the textures (that belongs to me).

Before he said that silja says:

did you put it in the readme the texture of the bridge is in JHB?

after that:

:o Oh man! I couldn't edit because after I edit, it has an error. Sorry! :(

The whole conversation can be found here (http://hangsim.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=1150&start=30).

It's just a clear example of what people that you may have to deal with the day they grab some content from your add-on and put it into their own and then rapidly release it under their own name and call it their own work. It's just a clear picture of what is going on over there. Im pretty sure that it will take 7 days until the content is removed and that I have to answer several stupid questions from somewhat "administrator" to prove my case...

And all that offer to convert your 3D model into Virtual Sailor, I would not trust them. God know what they do with your content. ::)

Hopefully someday someone will get a pretty nice surprise in their mailbox from a company that know to deal with such situations. If this was oil paintings belonging to my mother (that is a real educated professional artist) I know what she would do - sue the ****** out of the one who did it.

What a theif...how did he think he wouldn't be caught out? That's the worst problem with VS, copyright. You can do nothing to protect your models.

Even the game Virtual Sailor can be a hard case to understand.
There is actually no licensing information about the game, like its released under a license. All it says when you start the game is "Copyright XXXX Ilan Papini". That's all.

So..this is a simple warning: If you are going to release your own add-ons for Virtual Sailor, think twice, what rights do you have and how can you protect your work?

Now I'm afraid about my crane if it's somewhen will be released for VS. Doubt now about what Fred has said about converting models to VS:

Well.. the offers that came left and right.. I kinda let them lie there.. left and right.. Only one of them was an offer I would (probably) trust.

You have to always make a judgement call with these things.. but if someone has allready released a ton of addons, good, quality, professional work.. And from reading forum topics it appears that such a guy is "the real deal", I reckon it's not going to be one of those "hey look what I made!" kinda guys..

You can look at age (though that doesn't say much all the time), and posting history perhaps.. look at the person's posts, his work.. or even ask a staff member about them.. or forum member you might know and has been around there for longer..

In the end, if you take on a team mate to help you out, you never know how far you can trust him, if you don't know him well...

I actually got a few PM's right away, telling me about a few people I should NEVER accept help from, that was really nice.... And if a guy says something like "If you need help, I'll be willing to lend you a hand, but try to do it yourself first, because that's a whole lot more rewarding."..then it looks a lot better than; "cool! if you send it to me I can convert it for me.. please do cause I really want this one.."  ;D

Well, people should be able to criticize and debate whatever they want, whoever they are, whether it be a law, rule, belief, system, custom, etc.
Debating law itself isn't illegal. Well maybe in some countries. But sometimes you have to look at the logic behind some laws, and question it.... I mean sure, you have to follow it.. at least until it gets changed... and who gets the lawmaker to change the law? The people who aren't lawmakers. The ones who point out the flaws in the laws, and want them to change, hopefully for the better. Sometimes the lawmaker acts on his/her own, too though. But, I suppose a Ship Sim forum is hardly the place to do it.
Alright. Now I'm done.

I'm with you on that, without debate, no change.. and some laws really need changing. (not saying copyright specifically.., but I kow a lot of stupid rules that can go, as far as I am concerned...)

But I was indeed refering to arguing about law on this particular forum. (there was a potential 'heated' discussion developing, hence my remark, that's all.)  ;)
