Laptop Power Supply
« on: January 18, 2009, 20:28:28 »

Hi guys,

My laptop charger has just given up the ghost. The flexicable near the plug ripped about a week ago and finally it's just worked it way out and now it won't charge unless you spend 5 minutes faffing around wit it!

My question is, my laptop charger is a 60w version which officially came with my laptop. All I can seem to find on websites though are 90w versions of the same charger. Unfortunately, I don't really want to shell out another £60 for a new charger for a laptop which is not worth spending the money on.

Will a 90w charger maake any dfference if used on a laptop which as been using a 60w version. Will it damage it in any way?

Any help would be very much appreciated :)

Cheers,
Adam

Same thing happened to this laptop, they said it was "common" and sent me a new one under warranty. Although my old one the internal wiring got screwed up they wanted $600 to fix it...

I'm not sure, but while I was waiting for my new one, I used my moms old charger that was less wattage, it just said "This adapter is under powered, will not charge while in use"

I don't know. Why not call the manufacture?

So long as the voltage is the same, and the polarity is the same, then "additional power" is merely that the power supply could supply it, if it was neeed (which it isn't). The result will be that the PSU will run a bit cooler, most likely.

I got a multi-purpose charger quite cheaply from PC World the last time one of my PSUs packed up. It's worth a look if you have one nearby.

Hi Terry,

I thought that was the case but I was just a little concerned about damaging the laptop. Which multi purpose charger did you buy? I don't have a PC near me, but a quick bus ride would soon get me to one  ;)

By the way, I was looking at one of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LENOVO-3000-C100-C112-C200-N100-LAPTOP-ADAPTER-CHARGER_W0QQitemZ150318728191QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_LaptopAccessories_PowerSupplies?hash=item150318728191&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318) on eBay, just a bit worried about the shipping. Hong Kong can sometimes be a bit funny depending on who you deal with. ALthough I did order a USB Playstation gamepad from a seller in Hong Kong and although it took a while (which is expected from HK) it arrived in good condition and as described.

Thanks,
Adam

Try their web site.

is probably the one you want.
