Title: 80 RPM, not 75 for Titanic
Post by: RMS Gigantic on July 21, 2008, 04:00:02
Ship Simulator 2008 places Titanic's engines' top speeds at 75 RPM, while, according to Encyclopedia Titanica's article on Titanic's propulsion system, it could reach 80 RPM maximum. Infact, Bruce Ismay said at testimony that they were planning on reaching this RPM towards the end of the journey to suprise New York with an early arrival. The ship did not survive long enough to see herself traveling at 80 RPM, though.

Her top speed was 23.75 knots, but the game cuts it off at just over her service speed, 21 knots.

Is this another Titanic errors topic  :P

But yes, i think the Titanic had a serious RPM problem in 1.1, it reached something like 750 if i'm not wrong  ;D

I intend for this topic not to branch off, and for it to stay strictly on the topic of the RPM of Titanic's engines.

It is said on April 14, before the collision, she was likely traveling at 78 RPM, which is unabtainable in-game.

Also, it was on Monday afternoon or Tuesday, if they had fine weather, that they intended to pull full speed.

Quite a few ships have engine errors on the game, it would be nice to see them fixed - Titanic has already been fixed once for it's RPM  ::)
