Title: AI ship question
Post by: walkgeo on May 01, 2007, 22:10:20
Is there away to reduce or at least make AI not try to ram, I run a 100 Azimut in Florida and have never seen other boats act this way.

To reduce the ship traffic make your own mission without them.

Did you update your game to the 1.8 version? Some of the AI problems are fixed in patches.

Well to be fair there are some pretty stupid pilots around in Flight Simulator and that's been going for 20 years now.  Even if you did park your aircraft on the taxiway purposefully to see what would happen, you would expect the AI to stop wouldn't you?

As it is, at least the AI in this game stops sometimes if you cross their path (if you have patched).  Frankly I think that Vstep are well ahead of Microsoft in this area.

The AI ships go on a previously set path so they just follow that path. They cant think so the path helps keep them going the correct way. I have put a ship in a area without a path and it just goes in circles. ;)

It annoys me to that the AI are brainless...but you have to realize that Ship Sim 06 is their first release. There are many problems with sinking, lights, scenery, and AI ships.

UNTILL...
shipsim08 comes out ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :o
Things will be very different then 8)

True, the AI is only in the first generation. Many people compare this AI to the MSFS AI - in olrder generations, at least when an AI plane flew or drove through you it did not damage your plane. Regardless, that is not what is happening now. I think certain things could have been done to improve the AI before the game was released and true, it is annoying - especially large Container Ships. At this point, however, a new generation in the game is almost upon us and be prepared for much greater things to come.

Greetings,
Would it be a nice idea, when the AI vessels did not come visible from out of nowhere, but from a quay.
So they dont show up by surprice.
This is my idea, they are next to the quay(black),they gonna move they turned(bleu). This means that you can see when they want to start sailing.
They sail to another quay, where at that time, the same progress will start.
This way you can avoid surpriced collisions.

Greetings Dave,
No problem !!
On this matter i've seen some people on this forum, with a problem on this.
I can understand,if you allmost finished your mission, and that out of nowhere a AI vessel, which hits you.Result, damage price is to high, and you mission is gone.Try again!!
With my idea, that would be history, and inprove the game.
So maybe afther the 2008-release,i hope we can get these items in the game better, also this gives a more realistic view in the game.
It's for the moment,just a idea.
Regards
Marc

Hello marcstrat,
Your idea is fine. Also, the AI ship leaving the quay could be coupled to your ship nearing some waypoint, visible or not. And how do you see the AI ship leaving? Out of the "playwater" or mooring somewhere?
I suppose that there would be no other AI ship spawning at the same place?

Luc

Greetings,
How i see this matter,is one AI vessel leaves the quay, and the other, which started from another quay, would arrive.
You with your vessel, cannot moor there, because their are no moorings for your vessel, and if your in the way of the AI vessel, which arrive. The system will be temporarly stoped.
I hope you see my vision on this, afther my explaination.

Marc

I see what you mean. That area would not be open to docking with AI ships, because like in real ports, that pier is already dedicated to another vessel, in this case the AI ships. Am I right?

I have also had a problem with a Al comtainer ship on the rong side of he channel and ram me. I think that Al ships need to stay on there side of the channel.

Greetings,
Yes,i a way, your right.
While you are there with your vessel, that AI vessel cannot dock, then that cyclus of the AI vessel would stop, because you're in his way, ather you left that quay, the cyclus would be restored.
With this idea, the collisions by surprice would end,and it looks more realystic.
O.K. this is just an idea, but i believe this can work.
Remember with 1.8 patch, the AI vessels stopped when you are in his way, compair it with the 1.6 version, they ran into you.

Marc

That's a great idea but are you saying that it would be totally black? That wouldn't be good. Perhaps you could have different coloured lights for when they move or something. ;)

Havn't moving ships always been blue?
Title: Re: AI ship question

No, with "black" and "blue", Marcstrat was reminding of the colors of respectively static and autonomous ships, as represented on the "radar/map" tab.
Regards
Luc

What info do you get on a modern radar display? Does the radar computer alert you to speed by colour code- I don't mean it sarcastically, I really don't know? I know bigger ships radar computers alert the helm to possible collisions Surely part of the job is interpreting the radar display.

Or when using the titanic, no radar display or gps makes it more realistic.

Thanks. I only know basics from my frequent bridge visits aboard P&O Pride of Bilbao. Shes getting on in years now and my last bridge visit was in 2001 (ie before 9/11) as they don't do visits anymore :(

The bridge looked impressive, and that was 6 years ago. WOuld love to see it now as its been refitted.
