I have had those before, once its gone after an hour i go nuts because it takes me a while to be able to get the game, and i can't play it anymore because the demo is gone. A demo like the one for SS06 will be good. KM

To Master Captain,
If i understand you,you want to have a demo. The same as in the 2006 version, with a small area of a harbour, and one vessel of the 2008 version. So that you can play this, untill you are able to buy the whole version.
The idea itself,is very good.I think it's up to vstep if they want to do this again for the new version.
However, because of the improvements, this would be a very good cause. This way we can maybe try out, some waves,or other features from the new game.

Would be nice to have a demo such as we got from the first game. The demo made me known with the game and convinced me to buy it. Totally love the waves and cranes in 2008 so love to try the demo of that one!!

A demo would definetly have its uses.  It was the SS 2006 Demo that made me want to buy the full game.

I never thought of that, i do agree having the full game for and hour or an hour and a half would be good for a demo. KM

We definitely need a demo. Just to try if my PC can run the game. Have you seen the minimum system requirements?
I'ld like a demo very much before I buy I game I can only play after updating my PC.
Title: Re: SS 08 demo
Post by: Eemspoort on May 21, 2007, 09:51:47
I second that. I don't have an old and slow PC, but the requirements for SS08 are very high! :o
I would like to test-run it as well. And like Master Captain said, a full version for an hour (and a half??) would be very nice. I want that game, but if i have to update my pc first, the game gets a high price...

I really think it shoud be a demo ..but not for just 1 h..  maybe some days, ore a demo where you just can choose 1 boat and 1 place to be on..
Title: Re: SS 08 demo
Post by: Maik on May 21, 2007, 18:53:14
Why not just a demo like the first one.  Just a "small" part with 1 boat 1 harbor. Maybe with a part of open sea to see the waves and that's it. It would certainly keep me happy till release  ;D
Title: Re: SS 08 demo
Post by: Captain Davies on May 21, 2007, 19:09:56
Yeah I agree, unlimited time, only limited access, like the out of bound areas in the 2006 demo.  That way it will keep me occupied with Ship Sim till the release and it will leave plenty for me to discover when I actually get the game.

Title: Re: SS 08 demo
Post by: Maik on May 21, 2007, 19:39:27
Excactly captain davies. But the area must contain a portion of a harbor, AND the open ocean. So that everyone can see how the waves are reacting with there computer. And offcourse it's pretty entertaining untill the release!

I do aswell. I don't like trials which either you have to but after so many days or it tells you to stop halfway through >:(

I'd like unlimited time but limited options too 8)
Title: Re: SS 08 demo
Post by: Master Captain on May 21, 2007, 21:04:56
I would agree to have unlimited options, but you can only get just so many features in the demo. I would rather be able to test everything on my computer and find out if it works or not, rather than pay the price of the full game and have it not work. KM
Title: Re: SS 08 demo
Post by: Captain Davies on May 22, 2007, 16:13:32
Question is; will you have enough time in that hour to test everything you need to?
Title: Re: SS 08 demo
Post by: Maik on May 22, 2007, 18:08:15
That's why it is safer to put no timelimit on. Nobody get's annoyed when it's over and you can test everything in the detail.
Title: Re: SS 08 demo
Post by: Captain Davies on May 22, 2007, 22:25:00
I think something of a compromise needs to be struck here, if Vstep makes a Demo limited in content but not in time, and with that content being the most demanding (CPU wise) that is in the game, then I think all will be satisfied.

I think a time restraint is in order as well. The MSFS X demo for example gave you one small area and a half an hour game play with a limited selection of planes. A lot of people loved it and kept playing it over and over. To me the unlimited time option makes it . . . . Too much like a real product itself. I would say 45 min to an hour per play session at most.
Title: Re: SS 08 demo

I just found the FS X time constraint an annoying inconvenience, every time the demo timed out I would have to restart it!

I think the Demo for SS6 was great and showed what the game had and was like. It also let you know if you could run the game. I would like to see one just like that one for SS8

Well,

I for one went out and bought ss06 after playing the demo.

It didn't really appeal to me before and I only downloaded the demo as I had nothing to do. Surely I'm not the only one in the world who bought it after playing the demo (I doubt I would have otherwise).

I hope that something comes out soon for a demo to make sure to people that it works with their system.
just a 20 mb demo with only 1-2 missions would be great. especially before the game is avaliable for purchase
Title: Re: SS 08 demo
Post by: Titanic1912 on May 25, 2007, 02:10:00
Yes. You could have maybe a large boat and a small boat and you can sail around part of the harbor or sail at sea. You get two of each. No time limit. Just restricted areas. Hopfully you can fully control the weather and waves...
Title: Re: SS 08 demo

Or if VSTEP could create 1 mission specially for the demo and unlimited time restricted free roam limited boats ofcourse that would be good!

Now now gentlemen - this course of action does not encourage VStep. Like before, I am sure they will release a demo - however, threatening them is not likely to encourage them.

Patience dear boy.

Whilst i agree it would be nice if VStep did keep us up to date a bit more, I'm sure they will do so when they are ready.

I doubt they will release any demo or news just because people are asking.

I have the feeling it will be worth the wait (although I bet the wait will be longer than published...)

To look at this objectively.....

Waiting is a good thing, it increases the anticipation....plus, you wouldn't want an unfinished or unplayable demo, wouldn't you agree?

I would rather they release the demo when it is FULLY ready ;)
Title: Re: SS 08 demo
Post by: Stuart2007 on June 08, 2007, 22:45:12
Oh yes, that's what I mean. Release a 'not quite right' demo and people will be moaning about it, despite being told its work in progress.

I must admit I would like a bit more detail, but if VStep has nothing else to say yet then whats the point?

As long as they don't mind us discussing it here, I'm happy.

(as anyone who reads my ramblings will work out I'm spending more time on here than playing the sim!- I must get out more).

I'd like some kind of news on whatever. such as even if they are going to release a demo.
I'm not looking for a 100 mb demo right from the new game.
Just something for the hundreds of us wishing to test if the game will work before we spend over $30 for this game.
If anyone knows any games online that are kewl, i'm looking for anything to play. I just keep going from the TV to the computer back anf forth with nothing to do, over and over :o :D
Title: Re: SS 08 demo
Post by: Stuart2007 on June 08, 2007, 23:26:35
Yes, but since you don't have the option of buying the game just yet, you can't be put in the position of buying it without testing.

I'm sure there will be a demo when they're ready. There's probably a really good reason why they haven't released it- like it's not ready.

I'm not a computer coder, but I guess its like a jigsaw- if 'that' bit isn't right 'this' bit won't work.

Maybe there's just too many things needing fine tuning. Have patience and faith.

I have dabbled with computer game programming, granted it was years ago and a lot less advanced than now, but the principle remains the same.

I once spent 6 months writing a game, only to spend another 3 months debugging it lol

Now that the game has been released and the boxed versions on their way to the shelves, I think it is high time that a demo was released.  Or at least I would like to know if Vstep intends to release one in the future.

Hi Ashmo,

Is it that you want to check against your computer hardware or just to see if you like it?

If the former, whats the spec- there is detail on the main website and if the latter, have you tried watching the videos? Bottman did some nice ones. I've just installed it myself and I think its really good.

Have you got 06?

There is a section on the website for a demo and i hope it will be released soon. Im very eager to see how it plays on my computer and so on.

If the former, whats the spec- there is detail on the main website and if the latter, have you tried watching the videos? Bottman did some nice ones. I've just installed it myself and I think its really good.

Have you got 06?

Stu

Nope my  PC is well upto it I just wonted to see what its like first. Yep I got 06 and Addon.

Count me in as another person who came here on seeing the release email, hoping to download a demo and see if I wanted to spend my money.  No demo, no sale for now... I'll come back by the site at some point to see if that's changed.

How does it that the game doesn't recognise a joystick or a wheel?I have a Logitech Wingman FF Joystick and a Logitech driving force pro wheel and the latest drives, they work absolutely ok with any other game, must i configure every key??? This is a completly no sense,i'm from the time that when a game was released it worked, not selling betas or alphas.Do you complaint about "piracy"?Yes you are asking for it,and you deserve it,must we wait two months for a patch to fix basic problems that SHOULD be solved before you sell the product?I'm very disapointed, thought you were professionals...

That seems a very negative attitude to take, especially this comment:

Do you complaint about "piracy"?Yes you are asking for it,and you deserve it

If you have a technical issue, please post it in Technical Support after entering your licence key and we will be glad to assist you with any problems you have.

Regards.

If I recall Battlefield 2 required you to assign your joystick keys.

Indeed, most games do now, especially if you want the controls 'just right' ;)
