Title: A change of weather
Post by: tracybee on August 28, 2013, 02:17:00
Hi all,
With the help of "saltydog" I now have my SSE game, non-steam version.
It shows as Version 1.5.
It installed perfectly and I had no probs getting it up and running.
I have an i7 chip (PC) and a moderately good GPU (GTX590)
I can push all sliders up to max and still get nice smooth results.
I am currently in the middle of the Atlantic in my "Row-Boat" !
Surfing the hurrican force seas..Screaming up the biggest waves and quickly turning to surf like a mad-woman straight down the face. Woooie...!!
I love it so far. Wonderful graphics with everything turned up full.
I am using a Dell ultra-wide monitor, U2913WM, at a resolution of 2650x1080.

One question I have: Can one change the weather/wind direction whist "Free-Roaming"?
Oh yes, can one adjust the height of the camera when in "Walk-Through"?

I'll probably have more queries as I venture further forward !!!
Love it so far.

Hello Tracybee,

Great to hear you enjoy the game!
It sounds like a fine setup you are using, especially the monitor. I nearly bought one myself recently but decided to stick with the 1920X1080 resolution for a while.  :P

Anyway, it is sadly not possible to change the weather while sailing. Only while setting up the freeroam scene before playing.
The walktrough camera has a fixed height.
There are two other nice tricks with the camera that are interesting to know though;
On some ships, pressing and holding the walktrough button will spawn the camera on a different location.
For example on Oceana, pressing it once spawns you on the bridge, while pressing and holding the button spawns you within the Atrium.
And one other trick, in "3rd person" view where you can rotate the camera around the ship, if you press and hold the scroll wheel or middle mouse button, and you move the mouse, you can position the camera's center of orientation. This is usefull for larger ships or creating nice screenshots/video's.

Unfortunately you can't take screenshots in that camera-mode.
You need a program like FRAPS for that.. ;)

I forgot to add, indeed, you'll need Fraps or something similar for that.  :P

Hi all,
Thanks for those tips and for the advice about Fraps..
Not having anything at all to do with SSE, I was surprised to see an "Editor" or Sandbox is included.
I think I have searched the disc and the software but cannot find any manual or Help files associated with it.
Apart from the many varied and talented Youtube video's, are there any resourses dedicated to the Editor available?
A nice PDF or Text file perhaps?
Thanks....

Marvellous!
It's taking me back to the old "FarCry" days.
Thanks to you both.
