is there a way to make the smoke a little darker?

I'm sorry to say that no, it is not possible to alter the smoke from "Titanic". In the days of steamships the engineers took a great deal of pride in ensuring that smoke was kept to a minimum. Passengers do not like soot dropping all over the decks when they are trying to enjoy the sea air. Boiler tubes would be "blown" during the night when there were few people about.
