new update: notch is adding a very exciting feature: pyramids. ;D

screenie: (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/images/f/f3/12w21a_Sandstone_Structure.png)

he says that inside it contains a room with four chests; each chest contains valuable items. but its not so easy as it seems; of course with a feature this epic, there would have to be an Indiana Jones type adventure. there is a hidden pressure plate in the room, and below that are 9 blocks of TNT.

and yes, those are sandstone stairs. :2thumbs:

1.3 will be an absolutely incredible update! ;D ;D ;D

I setup a world on my server for you guys if you want to build something together.  ;D

I hope the mods are ok with that.

minecraft.austingratzer.com

I do have worldedit and voxelsniper installed so if I'm on I can help place large portions of material. I can also protect your builds with worldguard. Just type /help for all the commands you can do. Right now there is a max players of 8. But I hope to upgrade that soon.

also, in addition to the desert temples, notch will be adding in 1.3 jungle temples.

they are two stories high, and contain very rare blocks in survival, like chiseled stone blocks, tripwire, redstone wire, and dispensers. you must solve a lever puzzle to open a door that releases a chest containing valueable items. getting the puzzle wrong hurts you (although no info is on that yet).

Ever mess around with TNT? It's alot of fun
Title: Re: minecraft
Post by: Rbsanford on September 04, 2012, 23:50:55
Yes, TNT is being used to flatten the terrain.

What's really fun though is to make a 1x1 hole leading all the way to the bedrock, filling it with TNT, then lighting it so it makes a bigger hole. Then fill that hole with TNT, and so forth.

Portal 2 was a great game!! ;D ;D I'll get the mod in 1.4 when the API is installed.

And in related Valve information, the Black Mesa mod for Half-Life 2 will arrive on the 14th, and back in July Gaben Newell said Half Life 3 will be announced in the next few months. Hopefully it will include portals because of the Aperture crate on the Borealis (lost ship in the Arctic). On Facebook Valvetime.net added a gallery of Episode 3 concept art, including possible outfits for Barney, Kleiner, the Combines, and alot of Alyx Vance.

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.375965635802364.86003.274276235971305&type=3

Hopefully it will come soon, so I can plant my crowbar in that evil Advisor slug that killed Eli in the end of Episode 2.

Since singleplayer was converted to a one-player server, I couldn't use TNT. :-\ (it's my world; therefore I should be the owner and have all privileges!)

Therefore it was an excruciatingly long process of destroying the mountains. I also added lighthouses. ;D

I use wool because its the closest thing to more realistic buildings. I use bricks and wood for decoration and accenting only.

After all, that's what started the great Chicago fire and the London fire. Those buildings were made of wool, right?

So I scrapped the large yacht (which looked sorta ugly), and replaced it with a Coast Guard base, just a small one.

And remember when I said the ferries would go from the mainland to the island? Well it turns out that...

... it is the island! On the map you can also see the roads and the leveling of the rest of the terrain.

TNT is great for these projects, but seeing that it can fly considerable distances, it's best to level the terrain by hand.

You have to get the full version of HL2! It's great! Outstanding graphics, ingenious plot, beautiful environment, ultra-realistic sounds, wide range of weapons, comedic elements, crazy plot twists, tricky puzzles, epic boss battles, and of course Alyx Vance. ;)

Plus there's the episodes, with even more plot twists, boss fights, characters, environments, and more!

All made by the prodigious Gabe Newell, God of gaming, skipped kindergarten, overweight genius!

Added two more domes, and devised a plan for them: nine habitation domes, each with a different purpose, arranged in a grid, and in the center is a tower extending out of the water, and expanding from the tower will be docks and marinas.

The three habitation domes of the third tier. That small building on the mainland is the dome management building, where all the emergency exit tunnels lead.

The desert-themed Habitation Dome 2 is used for manufacturing. The shack contains furnaces, crafting tables, brewing stands, enchantment tables, and anvils.

Inside the shack.

Yes, people will be living in the dome complex.

The chestnut wood walls give the living quarters a homely touch.

The biggest issue facing underwater glass structures is leaking. In the unlikely incident of a leak, please calmly direct yourself to the emergency exit.

While evacuating dome complex Lambda, please do not clog the hallways.

This has been a virtual tour of Tier 1 of Dome Complex Lambda, the future in aquatic living. Have a nice day! ;D

Good idea. I could probably make a superflat world made of TNT with a redstone torch layer beneath it, then make a 1x1 tower to the height limit, then break one block of TNT to force a block update, so then the superflat world will destroy itself while only one tower remains for building.

Any idea what to put here?

Now I have to work on the interior. Planned features include indoor pool, helicopter garage, library, and launch room for smaller yachts.

A question about the daylight sensors: can a sensor be placed directly on top of a redstone lamp and still send a signal? And how can that signal be inverted so it's sent at night? Because I might build another city (since I now have world painter and MCedit) and I need a compact automatic streetlamp design. I'm seeing these ones on Reddit that look like huge bulks, and they're pretty ugly.

I have a design of one pre 13w01a/b that uses testificates, that is somewhat compact (three or four blocks tall by three blocks wide) I have a few pictures of the design down below:

Original day/night sensor w/ villagers
(http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m601/ShipSimmer/2013-01-05_214043_zps3baa26d0.png)

Redstone wiring underground (still the same)

Corners
(http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m601/ShipSimmer/2013-01-05_214238_zpscc274165.png)

Now, instead of a massive testificate home, I can have one half block!

EDIT: yes Daylight sensors can be placed on redstone lamps.
but it works the wrong way:

heres a cool design I found on reddit:

Also on the topic of this forum becoming dead(ish), I feel bad because i think it is technically my fault because I rarely post on here any more and when I do it is typically minecraft or saying how boring(...) life is. :(
so I feel bad because of that...

Just built a scale model of the Medical Arts building in Duluth on a plot server:

Because of the size of the plot, I had to crunch it inwards a bit, but it's still pretty accurate.

The back. For some reason, they designed the building in a way so that in order to access the emergency stairwell, you have to go out onto one of those balconies, then back inside again, which is the door (glass block) to the left. Also note how Michigan Street is one story below, to compensate for the terrain.

Plaque at the main entrance, and the front hall. Yes, in real life, the ceiling is gold leaf, and the walls contain so much detail that I couldn't possibly recreate it.

News about update 1.6! ;D

1.6 should be released sometime around May, possibly June at the latest. Features include:

A new launcher.
Seasons and day cycles.
Hay bales will be added.
Carpets will be added.
Leashes will be added, and will allow you to lead mobs around, tie them to fences, and to bind rope from one fence to the next (realistic rigging here I come!).
Rideable horses and donkeys will be added.
Horse armor will be added, along with saddles, realistic controls (horse shows?), ability to be tamed by wheat, and ability to carry chests on saddles (however there is no inventory yet).

Update on RSopolis 2:

The buildings I have so far built are actually on an island in the river flowing through the city, inspired after Paris.

Choppy letters crown the top of the RS Hilton hotel, based off of the Duluth Radisson. The walls will be completed next week, as they require stained clay.

RS Tower reaching above the mist.

The Pinolive, evidently based after Chicago's Palmolive. It even features a beacon that lights only at night.

Duluth buildings, from left to right: Torrey Building, Medical Arts Building, Providence Building. This block is not yet finished. I also plan to recreate the Duluth Government Buildings and Greysolon Plaza/Hotel Duluth.

The central fountain of Monument Park. Nearby is picnic grounds and chess boards.

One of the simple bridges spanning the river.

An underground marina beneath RS Tower. In real life I can see some problems with this, but for Minecraft it's a smart idea and will help with server compatibility. The underground canal system is still in beta stage, I might use it instead of subways.

Yeah it still works, I'm not sure about 1.6 because they are changing up deserts a slight bit, (I think that affects seeds maybe it's the file format) but A great seed that was lost in Beta 1.8 was "Glacier." Just so you know you can get old seed via Better World Generation 4.

Since the last city update post 1.6 has been released, and so have new buildings! ;D

The completed RS Hilton with a hardened clay exterior.

A building of unknown purposes. It contains a large atrium and roof-top observation lounge.

South End Park at the other end of the now isolated island. The golden effigy of Sears Tower (Willis Building :P) actually represents my very first creative skyscraper which was destroyed in a fire (the entire thing was made of wood).

The concrete underground parking garage below the nameless building. Wandering is my pet horse, Mackinac.

The completed Duluth block, now with the Alworth and Lonsdale buildings.

A very pointy building dubbed "the Pencil" because of the black spire encased in sandstone design.

The colorful public stables with executive suites at the top.

The New RSopolis City Hall building 1, based off of the St. Louis County Courthouse in Duluth.

Recently Jens Bergenstein (Jeb) posted on Twitter that update 1.7 may be a much needed terrain/biome update, possibly including new biomes/temples, new mobs, colored glass, new terrain, and much more!

So Mojang has announced a new biome called "the Disco Mountains."

They also say that spruce trees will grow in Extreme hills biomes, "black spots" will be removed from the terrain generator, torch bugs in naturally occurring torches will be fixed, more option screens, cherry trees changing color occasionally, and something called a community oriented feature.
Title: Re: minecraft
Post by: dexter7 on August 03, 2013, 20:26:41
I think the Canyon Bime should Either not be implemented or have a different block than Hardened clay. It just seems CheatyNebris if clay blocks were that easily obtainable. Anyways, it doesn't seem possibe with the current terrain gen. My guess would be that it would end up looking like Extreme hills. Maybe they can code it to be Deeper and wider ravines that are slightly rounded, but again it does seem completely possible with the coding.

It's been a while since I last updated the city's progress.

Say hello to yet another Duluth building! Here we have the downtown Holiday Inn (or as it's called here, the "Holidä Inn". Get it, the A-umlaut is a creeper face? Huh? Huh? Yeah.) In real life there's a parking garage built nearby, but I decided to redesign it as a shopping mall with a garden on the top.

Meet Holiday Center. In real life Duluth it's a shopping mall and public transit hub. The actual entrance to the Holiday Inn is on the other side of the block. (IRL)

This city's hotel is actually a Minnesota themed resort called the Duluth Inn. Featured are murals, picnic grounds, a hill with pine trees (and a creek running through it), and...

... a pool in the shape of Lake Superior.

Don't worry, I promise this will be the last Duluth building... maybe...

Here is the most elegant hotel in the city, the Grand RS Suites. It's sort of a conglomerate of Earth Aqua (Chicago, IL) and the New York Palace Hotel (New York City, NY).

In this view you can see the most expensive rooms. The ones at the bottom have private garden balconies.

Finally, here is the "Red Building". Atop one tower is an observation lounge and on the other is a variety of helipads for various purposes.

Here is where the river opens into the ocean. More information about the land the city is built on will develop in the future.

Since there is a character limit, I had to post some of the features for upcoming 1.7 in this post instead of the one before.

*New biomes.
   *Redwood
   *Mesa
   *Savannah
   *Ice spikes
   *Deep ocean
*New biome spawning system.
*Each biome is assigned a temperature. No biomes can spawn near each other if the temperature is too      different. These temps do not affect gameplay.
*Biome fixes.
*Swamps spawn with mottled dirt formations in the water.
*Pine trees spawn in extreme hills biomes.
*New world type: "AMPLIFIED!"
*New fishing stuff.
   *New fish: clownfish, pufferfish, salmon.
   *You can lure in junk.
*Placing maps in item frames will make them full pictures of the map view.
*Shaders, apparently. It was released in today's snapshot.
*New plants.
*Poppies, tulips, sunflowers, lilacs, tall2 grass, tall ferns, etc.
*new biomes to accommodate new plants: flower forest, sunflower fields, dark forest.

These are all the changes I can list off the top of my head. Here's a link to the full changelog: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_Features

It doesn't look like people are paying much attention to this thread anymore, but oh well. Lets get started with this update, shall we?

This building went viral on Reddit. Many of you may recognize this blade-like 1930's art deco behemoth as the GE building. But this is called the GR (General Redstone) building.

Here is the base. The tower is so thin that there was plenty of space on either side of the block, so on one side is the "Floating Forest" and on the other is a huge fountain and a tribute to the BWCAW. Note the Zeus artwork above the main entrance.

I call it "30 Blockafeller Plaza".  ;D Here's an imgur album if you want to see more: http://imgur.com/a/NmFsY#0

Did I mention that 1.7 came out since I last posted? Apparently there's a new view distance, so you can see the vague malformed silhouettes of other skyscrapers from the shore.

Here is the Lambda Dome ferry port. Note the beautifully built catamarans.

This is the other side, with the corporate buildings and arrival/departure road terminal.

Does this building seem familiar? It's the RS cruise terminal 2.0. I was thinking of building a model of the SS United States or the Queen Mary here, but evidently didn't.

The improved pick up area at the arrivals terminal. Now with 80% more trees!

Number two in the "New York Series": the Mine Warner Center. This is one of the most tricky buildings to construct in the city. It took me three days just to draw out the aerial outline. It's full of crazy angles and cobalt-blue windows (which was hard to copy), but I think I might have nailed it.

A different vantage point.
