Title: Bow Waves
Post by: Master Captain on May 21, 2007, 21:16:18
Looking at the videos of SS 08 on youtube i noticed there was no bow splashes. On the box cover of SS 08 the pilot vessel had a nice bow splash on it. Will This feature be in SS 08? KM

I think it would be an idea for an update patch. :) ;)

I'm sure SS08 will have bow splashes. If they are describing evrything else included in the version, I am sure they will fix the bug and include the splashes. 8)

Go look on shipspotting.com and look in the storm pics. Yo Will see some large wakes and alot of spray from the hull of the ship hitting the water. ;)

Make that 9 . . .

This has been a topic of debate amongst a few of us for a while. AND I WANT MY SPLASHES!! HA HA HA! In rough seas. And in calm seas I must have my wake. At all times. :p

And in storms I want to see it all splash onto my windows. That would be perfect!

but if we have water hitting the bridge viewports, would we not then need . . . . whipers?
Title: Re: Bow Waves
Post by: Maik on May 26, 2007, 21:23:55
You read my mind ;D won't be to hard to put in some whipers would it??

I think that the splashing water will be hard enough to do...

That is the hard part. The easy part is the windshield whipers. It is a simple animation execution when you press a key command.

That's what I mean. That making the splashes on the window from the waves realistic will be much harder to do..

I remember on the old forum there was a discussion about winshield wipers, but thats another topic. KM

Realistic bow wakes and splashes are yet another hurtle to cross. I highly dislike cheesy wakes . . .

I brought that subject up. I think it is a great idea. I have seen working wipers on a plane in Flight Simulator 2004.

Whipers, of which there has been a keyboard command since MSFS 98, were supposed to be an option for quite some time, however, I have not flown a plane that had active whipers..

We should have waves like the coast gaurd cutter's make in the SF bay, its really amazing. The smallest wave splashes on teh bow and a whole array of white mist floats up to the wheelhouse window :D :D

Wouldn't that be a little to much to ask for when this is just the first version with waves and such?

Who could imagine it 1 year ago.

Indeed, the Development team have really listened to us all for the features in the 2008 version of Ship Simulator, and it's looking amazing so far, in my opinion ;D

Ship Sim AND it's fan base will only grow from now on  8) :D ;D

Regards.

DJM.

I get annoyed with the wake texture of SS, I do not like how it does not fade, but instead, you can see the computer simply deactivating a section of the texture. I am hoping a transitional opacity effect can come into play in the future.

The bow wave look a lot better, I just hope the wake has been improved.  As our ship turned we would only see two points of...wake...instead of one large one streching along the length of the ship.

Yeah, coming from the bow and another from the stern - that always bugged me.

I am not sure if that is from the game, from the other screen shots I have seen.

Sadly I think not. :( I think that is from another thing they did. But If you look at that movie of the patroal boat on youtube that is what it sohuld look like. ;)

Yeah. I have seen some of VSteps other work, such as the Rotterdam demo (for another program) and it was nicer than Ship Simulator.

The kind of waves we need . . . . Silent Hunter 4. That has actual wakes and everything! Those devs went nuts.

I saw a sea plane that had a windsheild wiper and when you took-off from the water wou could see mist on the windows.

I have flown on a seaplane, and yes, there was mist on the windows on the side on the fuselage. However, the fore of the plane was clean. Although it did have whipers.

what would also add to bow waves and stuff is if some of the water like gathered up on the deck for a while until it drains off
