Title: [Resolved] SSE Fails to Start
Post by: kapenaalex on February 27, 2012, 16:35:40
I have submitted my experience to Tech Support section along with many other users. Game has stopped loading as of about a week ago.

Has anyone been looking into this problem?

There is exciting new DLC out there, and SSE will not load!

PLEASE HELP!

Hello Kapenaalex,

It seems that the processor and videocard are under the minimum requirements. I also saw, based on the system model, that this is a laptop. You must understand, laptops were never really build for high-end gaming.
Although, how did SSE run on your laptop before it began to crash?

SSE was running perfectly on this laptop up until this issue came up about a week ago. It seems to be the same problem being reported by numerous users as .dll ?? after version 1.5 was added. I run Steam version, and the update was installed without my input.

Hi there KapenAlex,

This error is fixed by updating your computer with Windows Update.

We found a PC which was indeed giving pop-ups for every DLL in ShipSim. It was a Windows XP machine and it was missing a few default Windows updates.

We think it's highly likely that a specific Windows Visual Studio 2005 C++ redistributable update (Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242) to be very specific) was the fix for that specific pc. The new channels were compiled with a newer version of a Windows SDK, which has probably introduced a new dependancy. This would all explain why SSE was working on most PC's, but not on some, outside of our 'powers'.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

I was able to solve the problem in my case by using the advise of members in Technical Support > 1.5 ddl errors.

Downloading Microsoft Update x86 worked for my Windows 7 64 bit system.

Glad this worked for you, but I'm sure my advice helped too, did it not? I did post the same thing here for you...

Anyway, topic locked.
