yeah looks good, trying to work out her name...

"Something Marlin"?

Hmm, The company name could be very useful though as well...

I wonder what font they used, for future CCC textures...  !:)

OK, looking at the picture, she looks to be based off of the Condor (Normandie) Vitesse (Hull 044)

If you look you have the big company name, then some more writing on the stern, which is in thre same place as the Brittany Ferries company name (BF Charter her for the Poole-Cherbourg route, and she aslo operates for Condor on the CI route, hence the  two companies):

How are you so sure that it is vStep. I don't see anywhere that it's a real Vstep. Everyone could make an account called ShipSim...
And why only on plixi and now on there real social networks site? ???

If they dont show anything people like me moan and when they do show something other people moan ::)

Personally I'm happy with that one picture until the release, gives away a bit and also leaves some exciting questions unanswered. And since its an Incat the excitement will never die for me :)

thats true,
But i dont want it to be a too much of a show off like what they did with SSE,
they nearly showed every single ship on the SSE list!
i dont want the same to happen to this addon pack,
most of time they usually show all ships after the release for people who havent downloaded it yet

Considering its probably not going to be free - you would want to know what you are buying... ;)

Nope, those kind of things were indeed NOT a factor in the judging of the CCC.

Only mesh and texture quality and things like polycount and detail level. The craftsmanship, not the potential ingame use.

At least not at that stage. It's still a business to be run, so it still has to be economically feasible in the end. But the judges did not give marks for that side of things.

And quite right TFM.. to show people what they have bought AFTER they buy it.. that's a bit silly.  :P

Fred.

I don't know, but this forum are more active than other game forums. So I think vStep should make more out of it, give us more news, video how they work and what they are working with. That will make this forum even more active and maybe get more people to play it and discuss on this forum. Just two low quality pictures of those ships are not enough in my eyes  ::)

for people who dont know how Coromuel looks like.... look at these pics to give you a taste of how she looks like and what her size is ;)
but i'm sure most of you must have noticed this ship in some of the missions as she commonly appears in missions involving Sydney Harbour,

^^MN Coromuel docked at Terminal 8 of the Dover Eastern Docks

^^This above picture shows what her size is. She is quite small but was able to carry quite a few  cars!

^^MN Coromuel on her way to Calais

^^Getting darker as the sunset approaches the Dover strait

^^A view from her stern ( you can see the stern door where all the cars enter)

Got the taste of how she looks like?

Not yet? :o

ok then i will give you this link of this video on youtube of her in VS, ;D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDeQG7Ezg7E

The smoke is coming out of a dummy funnel on that ship. Something very fishy there, must be a bad model in VS. Not really surprising though.

Ok here are the pics of MN Coromuel you had been waiting for:

Coromuel in Calais

Please give positive comments on my pictures because i have spend lots of time making these pictures and editing them to a smaller size because Tinypic.com only has a maximum of 5mb.

These are great pics. I'm glad that Coromuel is finally made a playable vessel - I have wanted to play her ever since she first appeared in SS2008. Her size is perfect - RED EAGLE is too small and too slow (really only suitable for short trip on estuary rivers) and PRIDE OF ROTTERDAM is too big for my liking.

Agreed. The Coromuel is very nice, she's a very nice vessel to navigate and to manoeuvrer with! The dev's did a nice job on her  :)

A good livery is to have a ship with nice colours,

Mosty of the Europe ferries have either a red or a blue livery..

Would be nice to have Sealink livery or maybe a naked white with stripes livery

That's not too bad considering that Dover-Calais ferries from similar era - such as Townsend Thoresen's FREE ENTERPRISE class and Sealink's DOVER had roughly the same draught.  It will be much better than PRIDE OF ROTTERDAM's 6m draught

What a lovely model - it would be nice if the bow visor can go up and down, but that's probably too much to ask for.

Working with M/S Color Fantasy, the old ship M/S Petter Wessel and M/S Bohus.... Soo, it can be possible in the future with a Color Line pack.... If i have time

This would be a nice addon pack, so we only need Oslo and Kiel!!! ;) The Color Line Ships in Travemünde could give trouble with Finnlines.  8):captain:

I agree from times, its impossible to make everyone happy, but from whats been created, I can't see why anyone would be unhappy..

The price is quite worthful for this pack so i think this pack will come in my hand on the date it gets released!

Can i ask a question now:
How long did it take vstep to make this pack? since when did they start this pack?

If i know the answer to this i might know how much time it would take to make another of these packs maybe based on a different vessel

Another question:
In the film i didnt see the Albatros' ramp go down.. but is there a function for that?

TFM still wants to know the font for his Ferry,

But one thing i personally would say is that the Channel Ferries Colour is Black and some bright dull blue/green colour that stands out beautifully from the ship itself.. In my opinion Channel Queen's red might not suit the bright green but maybe using the font to just have a white text would be nice

The ferry add-on. OH WOW.  :2thumbs:

Vstep has really surprised us as we all were expecting 3 ferries. When I was watching the Vstep video on You Tube, I almost fell off my seat when I saw the river ferry as it looks very familar to the one that used to work on the river Clyde. She used to be called DE HOORN and was renamed SOUND OF SLEAT when she was purchased by Western Ferries in 1988. Sold a few years ago, she is now a successful floating diving vessel based at Holy Loch.

Any of the guys from Netherlands - can you tell me the name of the River ferry in SSE?

She is called "Rozenburg" as in the name of the landing on the south side of the river opposite Maasluis. ( And her ramps and gangways are operational.) Great fun to drive, just wait and see. ??? Fore and aft Voith-Schneider props like "Red Eagle" but controlled by levers (see the pictures on the website announcement of the Ferry pack.)

Cheers Traddles - SOUND OF SLEAT was my favourite Western Ferries vessel, so it'll be nice to play her in SSE even though I know it's not exactly the same vessel - it's close enough and that's good enough for me

"Red Eagle" has opening doors and gates.
 :o
did my eyes decieve me or does that say Red Eagle!!!

even though my pc can't handle extreames that well i think i might buy the pack, that has just tipped it over the edge

Wow, that was my 1000th post, took along time to get it...was trying to make it a helpful post but ohwell ::)

"Red Eagle" is not part of the ferry pack, she is already in the game.
Traddles.

I know but at first the post implied her doors now opened, but you have since editied your post  will still think about buying the ferry add on

looks like this pack is going to sell allot for vstep ::)

i also found the location of rozenburg ferry, and the sistership of her

I cant believe we are going to have real moving cars that enter and leave the ship!

and
(http://i51.tinypic.com/10x7ha0.png)

Can ramps be also lowered when your at sea or not attached to a pier?

another question:
Is there any news about Marseille's Ferry berths being added?
That area is increasingly becoming populated by Mp servers
(http://i55.tinypic.com/2ducty0.png)
wouldbe nice though as in my research and days on SSE (nearly everyday on MP) i found out that most people use Marseille as the common Enviroment and more and more people are requesting the missing berths for Marseille where they could berth the POR.

I'm pretty certain that would be a serious breach of the SOLAS regs (and a heavy telling-off from the MCA if you're in British waters)  ;)   :police:

About de Rozenburg ferry: these are the two ferries on this route in real life, not sure which is the one in the trailer, it seems to have some custom color, probably legal reasons:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Blankenburg_%28ferry%29
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Staeldiep_(ferry)
On those pictures you also see that each pier has a different height due to the tide here. During rush hour they maintain a 10 minute timetable from both sides. There are plans to make a tunnel here by the way, which could result in less cars taking the ferry.

Not another tunnel  :(

I wonder why the Coromuel was renamed - she was already in game, so why not keep the same name...

hmm true but i was just asking if that was possible or would it only work when your attached to the shore?

I got a reaction from my friend who only likes hitting and sinking ships because he told me that he would go near ship and press the ramp button to hit the other ship but i told him to buy Silent hunter because he onyl ruins his own purchase and wastes it..

Thats why needed to know if you could also lower it whilst your sailing?

Indeed, what a terrible tragedy. I still remember very clearly that evening when the BBC newsflash came up on my grandmother's TV showing a grainy imagine of orange hull on its side.

Are you able to confirm if the bow/stern doors will not open while the vessel at sea?

Why did they have to call it Albatross IV?
Coromuel sounded better or did they do that to make it sound fictional as most of Vstep's shiphave a fictional name (NOT ALL OF THEM)

Probably due to copyright issues, so Vstep cannot use the original name in SSE.  :(

Ahh - but bow visors have to be opened before reaching the berth, but they have to have a watertight door behind them which of course is closed

Sorry, my error :(

I meant in the game - in Real Life, I have seen the Seafrance Cezanne raise her bow visor just as she enters the port of Calais, but would this still be classed as at Sea in the game itself...? So If I am sailing the Albatross IV into Calais does it need to be stopped to raise the visor...?

To me, At sea might represent leaving the confines of the harbour

As I understand it, this used to be almost common practice...I suppose for ventilating out the fumes etc. My dad has remarked several times that whilst he was on heavy goods, the doors would often remain open for quite some time.

I don't suppose it makes much of a difference in game though...to me it's the material whether bow doors open or not.

And considering the mission objective is to enter the port of Dover (which I can't even see yet) that must be really, really at sea!

And a snag to this is that I'm pretty sure the cars driving on are ONLY in missions and not in free roam  ::).
But oh well a fantastic pack all round, hopefully with this performancxe update some of might actually be able to play the game with more than 5 FPS  :2thumbs:

Exactly what I said on another thread. It would be better if they didn't give dates but surprise us when they have it for sale. I expect the same will happen to the 1.3.5 update which should have been out before the 8th.

Thanks for you understanding! Like we've stated in our delay announcement; the pack is fully ready to go but we are waiting for the final green lights. Of course we will keep you updated with the latest news.

Hold on a little longer, those ferries will be yours!

How can it be that them who run this publisher company, not knowing if they can solve this problem in a few days or in one or two weeks?

They also had at least 5 days to solve the problem before the date 8 of mars.

A publisher acting like this, I should stop using if Vstep were my company.

And, what is the name of this company? Anyone who know?

My guess is that this ferrypack will not come before the 14 th, maybe not even before the 21, but that is just a guess.

The publisher is a company called Paradox Interactive.

What a load of complaining tossmongers.

Be happy VStep made this package - it's the best thing that ever happened to this game.

When it's the publisher who tells Vstep when to release the Ferry-Pack, in my humble opinion the reason could be that Vstep isn't just releasing a Download version, but a boxed version too.

This picture comes from the Paradox site !!!

Why would it be any matter to a publisher when its concerning a download version only? Or is Paradox not able to mirror that download at time?

BTW, Wasn't it not the same publisher who was responsible for the very late and buggy release of SSExtremes in the first place?

I think that cover art is a bit exaggerating, alot of people will see that and go WOW  :o

They will then buy it and find their PC will only run it on low graphics or below and they will think it looks nothing like it. so even more complaining people will come here begging for their money back and asking why it is such a 'rubbish' game.
Title: Re: ShipSim Extremes Ferry Add-On Pack and Ferry Campaign
Post by: Traddles on March 08, 2011, 12:35:03
Where is the exaggeration? the picture shows Maasluis, just as it is in the game, and four of the ferries which will be in the pack.
The only people who will complain are those who did not first check the computer requirements to play the game.
Aad makes a very valid point in his post. As has been mentioned before on the forum, common sense requires ALL versions to be released at the same time.

This is a pack you add to a game you  have so they should know
Why on earth would they buy something they can not play without owning the game.
And its already been said the new patch when released will fix a lot of issue's.

No offence intended, but I am pretty sure that the side-wake on the White Marlin is real - the water looks like water, and not the SSE water... And watching the video, it doesn't make that sort of realistic wake
Title: Re: ShipSim Extremes Ferry Add-On Pack and Ferry Campaign
Post by: Ralphy on March 08, 2011, 12:49:48
i know i'm just saying the way it is portrayed can be a bit misleading, if you look at the bow splash on the marlin that is not how it will really be. So potential customers will see that and think "oh wow that looks realistic" they will then buy the game and the add-on and find that the sea on that pic is nothing like it is on SSE.

Edit: just as TFM has just mentioned

Title: Re: ShipSim Extremes Ferry Add-On Pack and Ferry Campaign

Intresting that people call this game a joke. To me a joke is Railworks as it stutters and crashes like hell but this runs fine on my PC. And for others it is the other way round. But it will help if you tell them why you find it a joke as they can not fix what they do not know about.

Why is it a joke what are your issues?
Go and check the bug reports.

Sorry I need to stop venting about this but I'm not impressed with all of it's issues.

The number one problem I have apart fom broken missions now is that the rudder key (centre) now doesn't work and it won't let me map it to 3 different joysticks let alone another key. Try driving one of the faster vessels when you can't centre the rudder properly, it basically ruins the game. That's off the top of my head, there are many other problems as you will find in the bug thread.
I have a highend system and it runs ok but I wouldn't want to run it on much less.

My main gripe is it's nowhere near as polished as 08 in regards to most things and was released too early, the patch having it's own problems only confounds that. Pretty much no AI because of performance issues??

If it was a $10 game I would live with it but it's not a $10 game, it is priced up there with the premium stuff.

Too many companies are releasing buggy software these days and we shouldn't accept that otherwise they will continue to foist substandard items on us.

I've said my piece in a couple of threads now so no more venting.  :D

as355,

Why not post your dxdiag in the 'technical support' and some folks might be able to find out why you are having terrible performance issues with SSE?

Don't worry about posting your dxdiag file on this forum, it won't reveal any personal information about you. It would show stuff such as your computer's processor model & make, how many RAM you have and what make/model your graphic card, how old your graphic card drivers are, etc.

I've done this a few times and it has helped me a lot to pinpoint any problems I was having with SS2008 and SSE.

Will you be able to manuever the blue marlin sideways?

Like the other INcat ferries?

There have been quite a discussion about the red jet 4... and it would come in quite handy, if you could move the blue marlin sideways, because it is such a big ship..

Do they have viarable positions? I mean when the quay is a bit higher than normal, does the system rest on the quay or is it pushing the ship upward?

yeah but its still not quite the Dover-Calais ferry - no DC ferry (with the exception of the European Endeavour) uses stern ramps, there are no suitable berths

*InCat is fine, they have a dedicated berth at the end of Calais

Not that its not a great model - we need Portsmouth - That would suit it great  !:)

Portsmouth would also be nice..
But one thing i have noticed is that the ship is quite small for a DC-class ship..

I think Incat also has a berth in Dover

But how can they get permission of a ship thats already dead?

If they wanted to make a Fictional Ferry company than the best thing the should have done is
Channel Ferries.. The CF livery also suits the Coromuel..
Infact she did have a similar livery before

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bow_visor

A bow visor is a feature of some ships, in particular ferries and ROROs, that allows the bow to articulate up and down, providing access to the cargo ramp and storage deck near the water line.

Game patches (including fixes) and DLC AddOns are two different things. Fixes are distributed within game patches, that are available to everyone for free, while DLC AddOns are payware, and there's no reason that people who don't buy the addon don't have the game fixes ...

Why don't you just get a picture of it and use the pick colour tool to find out?

I tried it on a render of the White Marlin and found the colours are as follows:

* The gray parts of the vessel below the waterline are:

Red:     61
Green:  70
Blue:    80

* The dark strip near the waterline seems to simply be black

* The turquoise strip above that is:

Red:     93
Green:  199
Blue:    226

Many thanks!

I though that they were released at the same time, however, I have steam too, and I don't see it for sell.

I noticed that we can sail with Albatross front "door" open, that it doesn't sink. At least it should be blocked for speeds over 1knot, for example. Or not?

Anyway, excellent addon! I would love to see one just for fishing ships !:) ;D

This note was at the bottom of the newsletter:

Last Minute update: STEAM has decided to change the release date to April 5th, so STEAM users will have to be a bit more patient before they can sail the Ferries. We apologize for any inconvenience their last minute decision may cause. Non-STEAM users can purchase the Ferry Pack from today on www.shipsim.com.

Unfortunately there is only a speed restriction during opening and closing, e.g. you can open it when you sail faster then 1 knt.

It was the intention to release it together, but STEAM decided otherwise  :-\

Why were we told that the pack would be available for everyone at the same time if that is not the case? It looks great but I would have like to known in advance that Steam users were generally going to have more problems and were going to have to wait longer for every pack and update that comes out.

I like the ferry Add-On pack very much.

I don't see any loading ramp and collision bulkhead door when the bow visor of the Albatros IV has been lifted. Normally ferries have behind the bow visor/clamshells, the loading ramp and the collision bulkhead door.

Onboard the ferries there 's very little area for free walking. Mostly it is only the bridge area of the ferries. On the Pride of Rotterdam you can walk to the stern of the ship.

Yes, they fit. In the Mission Editor, a new static "ship" is a ferry poonton, you can put everywhere you want in the environnment when you create a mission (you can for exemple just easily create a mission, with no waypoints nore objectives, but with some fery poontons here and there).

Here are a few examples of ferries in different places in Marseille, with a ferry poonton :

To me that isn't a huge issue, Afterall the purpose of the sim isn't to walk around the ships, but to pilot them, and you can't realistically pilot them away from the bridge

The Top Speed, specially in nautical terms, may vary a lot, with wind/tides/sea/currents condition ...

Service speeds of Incats tend to be between 32 and 38knots, depending on whether conditions and who the captain is. Also they are slower in service as they are a lot heavier. Empty the can easily do more than 40 if pushed to the limits

It would be nice if in the Preview of the ferries you could see them out of the water so as to see what kind of propulsion they have.. For instance: is the Rozenburg a Voith Schneider ferry a la Red Eagle..?

She certainly is. Just a different set of controls, levers rather than wheels. See Martys' instuctions on driving "Rozenburg" below. It's all there if you look for it.

Why does the Captain face to the port, and not at the direction he is travelling in?
Because that is actually how he sits; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tKfKyKqKos :)
It also makes sense for a river ferry, as a captain you are mostly crossing the river, so you want to keep track of both port- and starboard of your ship.

What are the side ramps for? She berths bow/stern on, so no apparent need for them?

Hi TFM,
The side ramps are for pedestrians boarding from pedestrian docks like the one just west of the Maassluis car terminal.
Regards,
Marty

Ahh OK thanks

Is that used for a seperate service, or do they stop there before/after departing from the car berths?

Yes, and there are many women Merchant Marine officers—Masters, Chief Engineers, and Pilots.
On the Columbia River here in the Northwest, there are women Bar Pilots—perhaps one of the most challenging and dangerous places on the planet for pilots.
There are also women Columbia River pilots who take over from the bar pilots.

Yes, they fit. In the Mission Editor, a new static "ship" is a ferry poonton, you can put everywhere you want in the environnment when you create a mission (you can for exemple just easily create a mission, with no waypoints nore objectives, but with some fery poontons here and there).

Here are a few examples of ferries in different places in Marseille, with a ferry poonton :

ferry pontoons are very nice to play with..
I usually place them and make a mission and play it myself (just for the pontoon :))

Oh TFM,
I think Rozenburg is the only ship with the most lights

Here are 2 pics that will explain it:
1st= All ships in Ready sailing lights
2nd= an attempt mooring/anchor lights to make ships look brigther (didnt work hehe)
I wish Cabin lights were easy to be added and dont need a single light object
The pride of rotterdam in SS08 had cabin lights.. These ferries are all smaller and particulary Albatross IV which is even smaller than the POR could maybe have cabin lights.. ( i know there is a low chance of that happening but its just a suggestion) Would be nicer to sail a ferry in the dark with lights to make you feel more comfortable (no bridge ligths but only cabin lights or passenger decks lights) Or it would look like a ghost ship with no passengers on board.  :)

ok here are the pics

I've been playing one of the NY ferry missions this evening and noticed a nameplate WILHELM BRUHEN underneath the wheelhouse of the NY Big Apple ferry.

What is the significance of this name?

(According to Google, Wilhelm Bruhen was a German inventor who came up with the taximeter, which automatically recorded the distance traveled and/or the time consumed, thus enabling the fare to be accurately measured).

Might be an easteregg of the dev's. If you look closely you can spot the names of a few dev's on a few vessels  :)

The Vermaas is a very nice example  ;D

What,  "No Smoking"  underneath the bridge?   ;) :P

Is it "De LEEUW GPS" on the domed radar? (at both ends on the top of wheelhouse)

Yep the GPS is one, but Vermaas is the last name of one of the dev's  :) Sigita works at VSTEP HQ and the name of the virtual owner of the jack-up rig is also one of the dev's  :)
