That's most of the new things I think, unfortunately the manual does not include a ship list! There is a screenshot showing a list of missions presumably from the core campaign or perhaps just single missions. The titles give us some indication of the content...

1 Round turn in the harbour
2 Tight fit
3 Fire Patrol
4 Dual tow
5 Heavy traffic in Hamburg
6 Pride of Rotterdam at the Straits of Dover
7 In sight of the Harbor
8 Coastguard duty
9 Southbound across the Pacific
10 Departing from down under
11 North Atlantic crossing

Yes, just my luck! I could try it on my old PC but I have already been having probs with SS2008 (and even more so with the fuel saving ship sim VStep released for free) since upgrading to the last of the AGP series graphics cards (Radeon HD 4670) so I doubt it would run there.

Title: Re: Game has arrived!!!
Post by: Frank_VSTEP on August 25, 2010, 13:05:53
Matthew, I know when I'm online, thanks for pointing that out.  ;D

My take on this is that we are working with different publishers/dustributors for different areas of the globe, e.g. Focus Interactive for France, Paradox Interactive for UK/USA/etc., GameWorld for Benelux and they all have their own strategy, packaging differences, etc. This is up to them. As much as we would like to be the omnipotent dictator controlling everything (I kid  ;)), after delivering it to the publishers, we are the developers and things at some stage when the game enters into the sales channel are out of our hand.

So don't be surprised if your edition/box is slightly different from the one Sonarman pictures. Ingame content however is completely the same though. I do know that the Paradox version uses STEAM, while other versions don't, but it makes no difference to the game content. He might have to wait for the 27th before his game will be playable though, as I notice he has a Paradox version.

Same for pricing and delivery. As far as delivery goes, again this is a per territory/per publisher issue and very much the case of how fast express services work. I can assure you that we at VSTEP are all doing our best to get you your copies on time but at some stage it is up to the postal services and games on stock.

Take care,
Frank

Game is rejecting my Steam activation code! Either a support nightmare for VStep which I doubt or more likely the activation code only becomes active on release day looks like we will all probably be enjoying the game at the same time after all, clever old VStep! oh well at least we know a litle bit more about the game now!

Hi TFM,

The Steam network is a bit like a game manager. It checks to see if you have the latest updates to certain games, networking and online capabilities.

At least, that's what I can remember about steam :)
Title: Re: Game has arrived!!!

Or just take the plug out and set the clock two days in advance...
Title: Re: Game has arrived!!!
Post by: Captain Spencer on August 25, 2010, 13:20:56
It won't work like that :)

VSTEP probably won't active the license key service until release day. So at the moment it's probably rejecting all incomming requests :)

What's the Steam network>

The steam network is the foremost platform for the digital distribution & activation of games. You can buy games online at steampowered.com & download them to your PC the games are tied to your account on steam so you can install them on as many PCs at you want as long as you only run one copy of a game a time.

Once activated most games can be played in offline mode no problem. It is much less invasive than the horrible DRM favoured by Ubisoft in submarine sim Silent Hunter 5 where you must be connected to the internet at al times to play.

It won't work like that :)

VSTEP probably won't active the license key service until release day. So at the moment it's probably rejecting all incomming requests :)

But if you pull the plug, or not allow internet access...?

Sorry if this is a daft question, but does this mean we need a steam account to install the game?

But if you pull the plug, or not allow internet access...?

I imagine it still wouldn't work, because the game cannot access the internet in order to activate, so the game itself may reject the license key, because it can't check to see if it's valid or not.

Like I said, I am just assuming of course :)

Yes, looks like it for boxed purchases at least, probably not though if you buy the downloadable version through VStep/Gamersgate as Paradox's Gamersgate platform is a direct competitor to Steam. But Frank/ Vstep would have to confirm that one.
Title: Re: Game has arrived!!!
Post by: Frank_VSTEP on August 25, 2010, 13:27:32
Paradox boxed versions require STEAM and a one time internet activation (after this one time activation you can then play the game offline without internet activation every next time you play it.)
The other boxed versions don't have STEAM integration.

Yes, that's more and more of a problem these days as Silent Hunter 5 users found out to their cost they must have a permanent connection or they cannot even play the game. Thankfully Steam & Vstep's solution is not so demanding a one time internet activation is in most cases all that is needed then you can play in offline mode.

Good to know, i just canceled my preorder from a german onlineshop and ordered the paradox version from england, it is a bit cheaper and it will have steam support :D (even if i may have to wait a few days more to get it now ;))

@ Riddip
I assume by your perfect English although you apppear to be in Germany you don't need a German version, the UK version I have received has an English only printed manual although I'm not sure what languages are offered by the UK game release itself as we are currently "locked out" till the 27th.

Thats a good point, I love suprises!

I think I will vanish on the 27th at least until my game comes
It would possibly be a good idea to create a new topic entitled "SSE SPOILER WARNING! - Game contents"
And only there you are allowed to post the actual contents of the game.
So you don't post in the cookiebox for example. I'm sure there would be quite a few people who have not recieved the game. or are going to get the game for a while and would prefer not to see whats in the game  :2thumbs:

Am I right or am I right? !

Kind Regards

Difficult to say, UK suppliers are at the mercy of the Royal Mail with it's highly variable delivery times so some may post a day or two early to guarantee customer satisfaction.

Anyway that problem is really solved now, as dodweb indicates, as the game even boxed product is effectively locked by it's activation date. I may have it in my paws right now... but I can't play it until it's official release date either.

Nice CalMac logo by the way Kevin. We need to keep pushing for our Firth of Clyde/Western Isles scenery & the Calmac vessels + Waverley to go with it !!!

It's just as well Vstep had a trick up its sleeve to ensure no-one is able to play SSE earlier than 27th August with the activation codes....the shop can consider themselves lucky they won't have an irate publisher on the phone!  ;D

Cheers re CalMac logo, the image actually comes from a CalMac ferry (MV Loch Shira) which has the CalMac crest on its side, and I just zoomed onto that.

I agree with the comment re Clyde/Western Isles and the paddle steamer Waverley. Hopeful something for Vstep to look at their next project, perhaps? (Ship Simulator 2013?  ;D)

Yes, sadly although the box manual and disc are in my hands the game cannot be installed at the moment as the activation code does not become active untiil the release day!

Worse still although I have the game I haven't quite finished building my new PC (awaiting parts) Ironically although I appear to be the first person on the planet to get the game, most of you will probably be playing the game before me!!! >:(

But there's also some people in Belgium, Germany, Holland and Switzerland, so it seems, that already have a copy. And there's probably people that are not forum members but could also have ordered it from the same place that he did.  ;D

Ah well.. they can't play untill the switch is flicked, anyway. You can still be right in time. And there's a downside to already having it..

Imagine being so excited that you have it early, that you scratch the disc while opening the case in a 'wow I can't believe it's early' state of ecstacy, when the dvd flies out, flies out the window and lands shiney-side-down on the gravel path just when you're overweight aunty comes to visit and she steps on it...in stiletto heels.  ::)

Note.. you don't need to be 13 to play the game.

But, If you use steam, than you might be dealing with money transfers, and obviously, there is a minimum age that goes with handling money online.

So to try to get a parent or guardian to make sure everything goes well with younger clients, they have that in place.

If you can just tick a box, sure then who is to know. But if lateron something goes wrong, then the parent or guardian has responsibility, and not the people at Steam.

So it's a protection that works both ways.

I have been getting quite a lot of PM's here about some people already being able to play the game.

As I stated in a previous reply, not all boxed versions use STEAM, only the Paradox versions. The boxed versions without STEAM are using a normal installer and will be playable when they arrive. It all depends where you ordered from and which version they are carrying (Paradox, Focus, Gameworld, VSTEP etc.).

What contains my download version?
Manual, warranty, ...?

How many times can I download it for personal use?
I'm from Belgium, working in France and I am in Slovakia late August/early September.
Can it be downloaded from any country, from my account?

How will it work?
Thanks
Kris

Larsdehaan - You should recieve an email at 00:00 on 27th August 2010 (only guessing, this is what happens to normal games), inside that email will be your license key, download link to download itand also there should be a pdf file of some sort which would be the manual.

Krisostend - Your download version will contain everything a boxed version would have. The license key will be in the email along with an online version of the manual in pdf format.
You can only download and use Ship Simulator on 1 computer. If you want to use it on another computer you will have to uninstall it from the first one.
And I believe that incase something goes wrong, you will always have access to the original download file
And yes you can download it from any country, if you have a faster computer then it will be a bit faster downloading.

Kind Regards

Matthew

Paradox IS doing the UK. Also USA
Anywhere else it's different, like France is Focus interactive for example

EDIT: If  you were in reference to sonarman, that hes in the UK. Well...
I recall the website he ordered from was a Danish run company, thus it would not be Paradox but another one.

I was hoping that it would be Frank that turned up at my door, handing me the game while wearing a blonde-haired wig and a Captains hat, but I shall not get my hopes up. I think I will just stick with the downloadable version for now.

Why?

You can still keep both

my PC crashed when i tryed using SS08 with SS06 still on the PC, so i had to uninstall it, plus when SSE come out TOMOROW then everones gona be on SSE nd not SS08, then after playing SSE then playing SS08 again afterwards, it just doesnt feel like it used to and i think some other things in life are rather similar.............

I know what you mean Pride Of Dover.

After playing GTA San Andreas for so long, I thought it was brilliant.
But when GTA IV came along I was like double wow.

Whenever I play GTA San Andreas now I just think: eww look at the graphics how could I have liked that!
Everything in the world keeps moving up different levels once you see an updated version of something you dont like the old version anymore

I suspect that will be the same with SSE!

if you have a anti virus program that run and if some other program that writhe to you HD that are the reason it take so long time, close down all programs and live the PC to it self then you should get it to be finished

I am sat in my home office watching the CCTV, jumping up every time a white van goes by.

Then the post arrived (At last) and i watched him on CCTV get out with a small parcel, i ran past my wife knocking her to the floor to get there fast.

You can activate it tomorrow.

I assume it will be on the disc, I wouldn't imagine they would use an extra disc just to put a fishing vessel and some missions on.

I can't remember exactly, but I think there is a notice at the end of the content video "From selected Pre-order partners"

My plan for this weekend:

Friday - if the SSE doesn't arrive on my doorstep then I will watch Star Wars Ep I-III.

Saturday - if my SSE still don't show up then it's Star Wars Ep IV-VI.

The way things are, it looks like a Star Wars DVD feast for me this Bank Holiday weekend :2thumbs:

Sure it says that the "official" pre-orders will start 9th August on shipsim.com, this is a very strange way to put it as I pre-ordered much earlier from a normal retailer (apparently "unofficial").

I just think that they could have been more clear about this... or maybe its just me...
A bit strange that it depends on where I buy it if I get the bonus content, I still pre-ordered....

What size is the boxed version anyway ?  Is it small enough that the mailman could quietly slip it into your letterbox ?
Or would he need to ring your doorbell to hand it to you..?   :)

(standard letterbox size here is 26,5 x 3.2 cm)
Title: Re: Game has arrived!!!
Post by: Usernme on August 27, 2010, 04:36:19
At a minimum it appears to be no larger than a standard DVD case, but it probably has a little but of bubble wrap around it.
Title: Re: Game has arrived!!!
Post by: saltydog on August 27, 2010, 06:07:09
In the first case you would need to check your letterbox every day, (something I don't normally do)
In the second case, someone should be at your home to greet the mailman, (preferably with sounding of trumpets and strewing of flower petals by pretty maidens.. ;D )

Same here. Still no sign of the SSE game, so it's Star Wars EpI-III for me tonight.

I will need to drink a few strong drinks before I can face that pure annoying Jar Jar Binks character! lol

lol, good one! Some Star Wars fans even went as far as making a version without the Jar Jar Binks character in the film - George Lucas got wind of this and was not very happy!
