Hi Nathan the pride of Rotterdam had to turn the other way round to wind directions which it is easy to turn around that way the captain said. and I have seen your pictures and they are great. Here are some more.

Hi jack I am looking for A career at sea. I know most of the Dutch captains and A couple of the English captains. so I will ask them which is the best way to go starting A career at sea.

Hi Andrew,

I myself am looking to go into the Merchant Navy. I know a few of the local Captains around here and a couple here and there, when i've been on my bridge visits.

There's probably a Nautical College near you, so it would be a good idea to try find out when the next open day is. I go to the open day at the college here every year, and have done the Day Skipper course...doing my Radio course soon too. (I can pick up my cert when i'm 16...which is a few months away). I was going to do the Coastal Skipper course but it'd be a little bit much with my final year of school approaching :)

Either way, keep in touch! I might see you around ;D

The way the ships spin around is due to the tides - if there is an "ebb" tide (which means the water is falling) the water flows upstream (in the same direction to the ship) so the ship spins around to port. If there is a flood tide, which is the highest the water will get, the water is flowing towards the ship, making it easier to turn. If this happens, the ship swings the normal way to starboard. ( I think  )

Hi the normal way is to swing to starboard but I was talking to the captain when they where just putting he bow thruster on to port  he said that the wind direction has change. So it might be the tide it was low that day but im only saying what the captain said.

I did my work experience with Stena Line - but unfortunately they wouldn't let me do the crossing because of Insurance and so on. The insurance side of things has got a bit rediculous with everything nowerdays...Cpt Dave Eccles wanted to get people onboard Ship, but becaue of insurance, and the fact that the ships are flagged in Bermuda, work experience onboard wasn't allowed.

That was bad luck. I am trying to do it with p&o but I want to go on the Dutch ships but im not sure if I will be aloud due it to be A Dutch ship. I'll will be properly be aloud to go on A English ship. For work experience with p&o you work in the restraunt, reception, shops, sometimes in the bar and on the bridge which I'll be glad about.

Really nice pictures!! I like it!  :2thumbs:

You are blessed, you have some chances to get on the bridge of the famous ships.

I would like to see something like that, i was always wondering how does it look the real bridge, and what would i see on the bridge, would i know to find my self on the bridge...

The largest ship what i have been on is the Jadrolinia ( Ivan Zajc ) ferry of 70 meters, and i haven't sav the B of a bridge.  :-[

Maybe some day... THERE IS ALWAYS A HOPE!

Looking forward on the pictures!  ;)

Kind regards.
Capt. Mitch
