Title: Price of SSE
Post by: metman on August 04, 2010, 13:20:27
It is nice that we now have another pre-order date for SSE, hopefully this is the correct one, but I notice one glaring omission - THE PRICE!!!!  Surely VSTEP know what the price is now and there is no real reason why it wasn't included in the announcement.  So can someone please post it!!!

the price could be around 30euros..
Patience is now something that will be required for the pre-order.

Kind Regards

The price of ShipSim Extreme is not official, but I have managed to get hold of them:

£ 19,90, about € 30...

i do not believe that SSE will be that cheap. if it really is, i will maybe cancel my preorder in an online store and buy it online on shipsim.com! 8-)
pro: cheaper, bonus vessel
con: no physical medium

Can't see it being that expensive myself...SS08 wasn't too pricey if I remember rightly.

No, SS06 costs € 9,99, SS08 costs € 16,99 and SS10 Extremes costs about € 30....

(And I have the name of the ships and enoverments too, Capt. Spencer)

No, SS06 costs € 9,99, SS08 costs € 16,99 and SS10 Extremes costs about € 30....

That's the price now. SS08 was  €36 during the release, if i remember well the price of SS06 was similar.
Title: Re: Price of SSE
Post by: Shipaddict on August 04, 2010, 16:55:26
I think 30-35 Euros/ Pounds is a fair price, considering what you're getting. :)
Title: Re: Price of SSE
Post by: metman on August 04, 2010, 17:03:46
...But as I have already stated in post #1 on this subject, why didn't VSTEP state the price in the pre-release info, it's hardly a commercial secret at this late stage surely??  If it is because they are still haggling over the price then the 9th August pre-order date looks a bit shaky!!

If it is around 30-35 euros then I would definitely say that was a good price as I think when SS08 launched in the UK it was nearer 40 euros!!

You do realise that, if this system is not pre programmed and automatic, then no one will be in the office till 8 or 9am tomorrow morning?   ::)

And you also do realise, that it won't make the game get to you any sooner if you're ordering at 0:01 or at 23:59 on monday, right?   ::)

And that there is more than a ten minute window to order..

But yeah there's no way it's gonna be midnight!

Because they said the 9th August. (Business hours, same time Europe and UK)

As opposed to something silly like August 9th at 00:01 (UK) and August 9th at 01:01 (Europe) or August 9th at 00:01 (Europe) and August 8th at 23:01 (UK)

Very confusing

Hmm 39 Euros = ~£35

but Amazon = £24.99 = £10 cheaper

I cannot see how the fishing boat is worth £10...  :-\

Well, the reason why sites such as Amazon, Play, etc is able to sell SSE for cheaper because they have less overhead costs compared to high street shops, and don't have to pay VAT on the goods - many games and DVDs etc come from their Channel Islands base on Jersery/Gurnsey. A bit sneaky, eh?  ;)

Well I just looked at Amazon.com and there's no price listed..

so maybe they took their 'wild guess' off of it now. Unlike the April release date they still list..   ::)

I have just pre-ordered the boxed version of SSE via Vstep, even though I knew it's cheaper on Amazon.

Then there's the fishing vessel and 6 bonus missions which is not available anywhere else (Vstep will probably put them on the Shipyard at a later date, at an extra cost)

I want to show my support for Vstep by spending my money directly to them.

Donation Edition (Download) preordered :)

Amazon rarely has the same items for the same price on their various sites. When I lived in Germany it was almost always cheaper to buy movies and games from .co.uk than .de, even though german Amazon offered free shipping.

You might have to wait 2 or 3 years for that price to drop.  :( That's how long it took SS2008 to drop from £30 when it was first released to around £10 now. It's not worth waiting that long, IMHO.

Well.. Take a paperroute..  or wash some cars.. or go do grocery shopping for your mother/grandmother/aunty/elderly neighbour...

The possibilities are endless if you really want to do something about it.. and you only need a little bit of money, since you probably already would have figured it would be at least 30 Euro's anyway..  So I bet you have that saved up, or you wouldn't have made a fuss about the pre-order date..

So make 10 euro's by doing some chores..  All the racket that's been made about the pre-orders.. you'd think that some of you that now comment it is too expensive, would spend a similar ammount of time that they spend on whining about when the pre-order would start, on washing people's cars, so they can earn enough to actually by it.

::)  ;D

p.s. 3.0ghz is for single core processors. pentium 4!  i7 core is much faster that those single core 3.0Ghz ones.

Well, I bit the bullet and made my pre-order....a little different matter for us old Geezers who live on a fixed income, so I'm in the pool now too.  Gads, this is like being 8 years old again and waiting for Christmas to arrive.  For a second, I thought I got a senior discount as when I clicked on the order button, it initially came up as $39.99 (US)!  But reality set in as soon as I clicked the next button...right back up to the full price...oh well, it was nice for a few seconds anyhow.

So, like so many of you in the younger set, I too have my calendar marked for the 27th....I'm a firm believer in "Growing older is mandatory, growing UP is optional"  ;D

Any Core i7 cpu is WAY better than the '3 Ghz P4 Intel' which is the requirement. The amount of Ghz has very little to say in this case. The P4 Intel cpu was released 10 years ago, and is a single core where as the i7 has from 2-6 cores.

Maybe the ONLY way to settle this "will SSE works on my PC?" queries is for Vstep to release a wee program which will then be able to check if your PC is up to the job.

After all, that's what Microsoft did before Windows 7 came out - they released a utility program which you downloaded and get your PC checked to see if it would work well with Windows 7 or not......

Yes, a compatibility checker or hardware checker program would be very beneficial. However the man hours to calculate the score based on literally thousands of pieces of hardware is just too great for it's purpose :)

I do however, agree with that :)

Note:

Not all modern RAM works like that anymore, where you can just 'add a little'.

Some are actually like 'double or nothing' where only doubling it is gonna have an effect, not just 'sticking 2 more in'.

I'm no expert, but so I was told when choosing my pc. So don't just buy something and stick it in. Be sure to get good advice so as you don't end up spending money on something you can't effectively use.

While it should work sticking just a gig or two more into the computer, there are some things to consider.

The new RAM sticks should preferrably be of the same brand, type and size as the old ones. It SHOULD not matter, but experience says that it does matter. RAM is the main contributor to strange bugs.

   - the best thing to do is to get socalled "matched" ram-stics. These are multiple sticks packed together, and these sticks will be as identical as possible making it easier for the memory controller.

Sometimes theres even a difference in seemingly identical sticks, where some older ones are "dual sided" and newer ones are "singe sided" (the black memory banks are on both, respectily one, of the sides of the ram stick). Mixing single/dual sided sticks can confuse the memory controller and lead to strange behaviour. Or work just fine.

You also want to utilize "dual channel" or even "tripple channel" features on your motherboard. If you have the same ammount of identical sticks in the two(three) differently colored memory channels, dual/tripple channel should be enabled and you will experience up to 2x/3x RAM speed. That is why I am going from 6 to 12GB. I already have 3x2GB chips, so the only way to upgrade while still keeping my "tripple channel" on, is to get 3 more 2GB sticks (6x2 total, 2 in each of the three channels on my i7 mobo). This is probably why you were told what you were told, Mad_Fred. That, and the computer store might have wanted to sell stuff they had, instead of ordering up stuff they didnt have with a loss of profit (been there, done that).

It SHOULD not matter, but experience says that it does matter. RAM is the main contributor to strange bugs.  Ignore it a your peril!!  I've been around the darn things, computers that is, longer than I care to remember and remember even now the wise words of an ancient computer engineer from long ago - they don't always do what they say they will do, or to put it another way, they don't always do what it says on the tin!!!

I thought this thread was about the price of SSE.

Anyway I see that the price on Amazon UK is £24.99 with a RRP of £29.99, this is for the boxed version.
On shipsim.com it costs €39.99 of which on the 20/08/2010 is £32.73 for the download version.

I guess what I am trying to say is it worth paying an extra £7.74 for the download version on shipsim.com that comes with the extra ship and a few extra missions (will the extra ship/missions be available for download later from shipsim.com for a price and how much will they be sold for).

Also when it becomes available for download have shipsim.com got enough bandwidth to accommodate the demand for the rush to download and play. I say this because I once paid for a download game from ubisoft and it took me four days before I was able to download my software after the release date.

I apologise if some of my questions have been answered in this thread but as I said above this thread has gone off track and I have not got time to go through all the replies.

If you want to post about how much RAM you are going to use with SSE post somewhere else this thread is about the price of SSE not how much RAM you have or going to use.

Denis I apologise I did not think you would get so upset about words with stars in them. Point taken. Also I did not ask you to go through them for my pleasure, if you don't want to go through them don't be a moderator.

Current ships in the Shipyard (Elbe, Furie) are offered at €4.99 and IF the Sigita will be offered in the future I would personally guess it was at that price. That is a big 'if' though, as I know a lot of people on these boards have gotten their knickers in a twist over the idea of offering it to people who havent preordered. Personally I dont care if it is also offered for sale on the shipyard in the future.

I'd prefer the download version as I dont like to care for physical disks, but thats a personal preference. If you get the boxed version from Shipsim, which is a better comparison to the Amazon offer, youll also need to add shipping costs from the Netherlands. With Amazon youll have free shipping I guess? It all boils down to how much you want the Sigita. If you get it from GamersGate or Shipsim.com, youll get the Sigita at a higher price. If you get it at Amazon, you risk not getting the Sigita in the future.

There have been no official word about future availability of the Sigita for non-preorder customers.

Must say I'm a little dissapointed at Amazon here for not carrying the Preorder version, theyre usually quite good with that. Could also explain the pricedrop I guess.

Hi dodweb

Thanks for your reply, I guess I will go for the download version just to be sure I get the extras and hope that when it comes to download the game from the vstep servers (or whoever they are using to host their downloads) don't crash with the inevitable rush to download and play.

I am surprised that you got to my post having to trawl through all the rubbish about how much and the type of RAM they use (this post is about the price of SSE take your RAM elsewhere). I voiced my opinion in my last post with a few words with stars in them and got my hand slapped. >:(

You forgot the 6 extra missions that comes with Sigita.

When Furie and Elbe was available for purchase as an add on, there was no missions to go with them. Several people on this forum - whom I am very grateful - went to the trouble of creating missions specially made for Furie and Elbe.

I am one of the folks who have paid for the pre-order because I believe in giving my money directly to Vstep, rather than the third-party merchants such as Amazon (don't forget companies like Amazon and Play.com enjoy their VAT-free status, hence their cheap prices and undercutting their competitors  ;))

Yeah, I forgot that the Elbe and the Furie didnt come with missions and thereby forgot to point it out.

I've mentioned it before, but when I lived in germany, I often ordered stuff from amazon.co.uk instead of amazon.de. Even though the german site offered free shipping on blurays and orders over €20, .co.uk was almost always considerably cheaper even after shipping fees. When I really like an item or a service, I also much prefer getting it directly from the source, like in this case.
