There hasn't been any new posts here for nearly a year now. :'(
When I got SS06 in 2008 (I only bought an outdated on because it was a bargain) there were so many new posts every 5 minutes (even though SS08 was out). Just thought I would relieve the SS06 forum back to the surface. :D

In a couple of quarters no one will talk about SS08 either.

I take it the crowds are in the SSE section. For now, i'm happy with SS06.

Since the 2008 version is it realy more quite on the 2006 area of this forum.However not everyone has purchased the 2008 version,who had the 2006 version first.
Some people just bought it just for curriosity,to find out that everything is in real time setting and i remember some of them just wanted to have fun with bounsing other members.The 2006 version was not able to that.
Also some guy's are not realy interested in the marineworld,but just used it as another simgame.To find out that Flightsim at that time was more interested.
By this i wrote also something on the 2006 area,since a long time ago.

I prefer the 2006 Titanic telegraph-style engine controls to the engine controls in SS08 and the Titanic Superpack :)

They replace them with standard throttle controls in regular 08, then the Titanic superpack has non-Titanic-style telegraphs that cannot both be controlled at the same time.

To go back to the start of the thread:
I'm thinking about buying SS06. It's cheap and doses at least not do any harm.
I've played the demo some days ago, and found out, that there are some features, that I even prefer in SS06 - of course there are other things, that are better in SS08. But for the pricer of 2-3 euro ...
But - which version do I need? Is the add-on includes in the platinum version. There are some sellers out there, who offer a "double pack", consisting of SS06 (non-platinum) and add-on 1. Has anybody outside Germany ever heard of the platinumm version, or is it a special German marketing gag?
Can the shipyard-ships be used in SS06?

Sorry, but no: Those vessels are only for Ship Simulator 2008 version 1.4.2. Again, sorry to inform you.

i think the platinum edition are only for Dutch and/ or German costumers but we have the SS06 gold edition that have the add ones pack in it

Gold version is basically SS06 + the addon on one disk-so only one installation etc.
It is definately worth getting if you want SS06!

So I finally bought it, the platinum edition - just as a supplement. And because it runs so smooth, even on an old computer. Maybe I'll install it in my girlfriend's pc.
69 cent for the game an 3 euro for shipping (thx for the link, TJK)

i use ss06 from time to tome to but. i gona to play sse much more when it come out. but ss06 gona be a good game. :2thumbs:

I'm also playing the SS2006 from time to time.
The main reason is off course the MAGA YACHT!
It's the greatest vessel that i ever seen, also there are some more things what are better.
Somehow it's intersting to sail in SS2006.
I'l play it more... i'l never stop play it...

The only thing i dont like about 06 is that there is No Free Roam so thats why i only play it every so often and i like the Mega Yacht

The SS2006 is great, also the yacht is great. Even the players, who don't like yachts and passenger ships, like these yacht from SS2006, so it really bothers me, why ther's no yacht in the SS2008 or they could repair that disaster by putting the yacht in SSE, but nothing about that.
That's really sad :'(! I would really like to sail that yacht with all those great effects, and envirorments in SSE! :-\
Yea, that's the only problem, so usually when i am playing the SS2006 i'm playing the mission 3, The mega yacht in Phi Phi islands, but that's a mission...
And also, after some time, it crashes, but it's OK.

I used to like that yacht too, a very nice vessel to have in. Hopefully we'll have it again sometime or something similar. :)

It looks VSTEP is not interested in passangers vessels... :-[
That yacht was the best vessel in the SS2006, and they didn't ad it it any add-on, The Shipyard, or anything...
They could make it for The Shipyard at least...

There is a very nice model of the mega yacht Pelorus on Turbo Squid, they could include that in??
But there are just small chances for that! :-\ :-[ :'(

That's a problem what really bothers me.
Can they tell us, theyr opinion, if there are some chances to see some mega yacht in the game or something like that?? ;) :'(

I only just got hold of an old copy of '06 but the calm pace compared to flight sims makes it quite addictive. Are there only a couple of ports and islands or am I missing something?

Add-on worth every cent!
In Add-on you get some nice vessel like huge 298 meters ocean liner Ocean Star, a clasic yacht Portoferrario Angel, a speed boat yacht Marabella delight ( with great interior ) some very nice and powerful tugs, also a ferry and a lot of wonderful vessels.
Also an very nice new port Cornwall in England.
Also you can walk on each ship.
It's definitly worth that.

I have just purchased Ship Simulator 2006 & The add-on as I think it's of much higher quality than Ship Simulator 2008. Until SSE arrives, I wont be using 08.

I just bought and installed it today. Very disappointed that there is no free roaming allowed.

Make your own free roaming session by creating a custom mission and adding a player ship of your choice.

SS06 is still a very nice game. Good graphics and it can run on older hardware. I was able to run SS06 on an Asus CUB-XE motherboard with an Intel Celeron 1,1 GHz, 448 MB PC100 SD-RAM Main Memory and an Nvidia GeForce MX 440 AGP Videocard with 64 MB Video Memory. Some missions were fine, but other ones were very slow.
It has some disadvantages:
- No Multiplayer mode;
- You can't sail from any harbour to the open sea, there is a barrier at the border of the harbour when you want to sail to the open sea;
- No seperate vantage point buttons for choosing different views: Bird's eye, Bridge mode, etc. You go from bird's eye view to bridge mode view by turning your mousewheel;
- A limited number of freeroam missions.
When was SS06 released for the first time and did it also suffer from nasty bugs and performance issues like SSE2010 does?

For most of us, this 2006 version(witch we were very proud of)became now a just a collectors item.
Since the first release of the game, i have them all.
2008 version was a very good game to, and alot more things were possible,like online mode.
Extreme version is again better,however it needs updates for some nice actions.
This is as we call, "Evolution",it happens with everything people make.
My 2006 version is now in my collection, and no longer on my computer.This will happen with the 2008 version to,in time offcource.
