hi, i was just strolling through some of the posts on the new extremes section when i came across a response to the post 'new things' by frank_vstep which included the following line:
'But no missiles in Extremes I'm afraid, only cannons you'll be able to shoot are watercannons!'
i also remember seeing a photo of some emergency reponse tugs fire fighting a rig
so i was curious how the fire fighting would be intergrated into missions (assuming it is at all), what boats would be capable of it, how a fire fighting cannon would be controlled by the player, whether it could be used for a form of 'paintball style' combat, or whether it just automatically comes online when you hit a way point
kind regards
02ian

Hi 02ian,
Yes, FIFI capability is in SSE, and in the missions.
The details on how it is used will probably have to wait until it is released.
SSE provides much more capability for controlling equipment on ships.

Marty

By my guess i would think the following Ships would be capable of this
The RPA12 as in SS08 does have the fire cannons on them
The Whaling Vessels if they are Playable and on AI to repel the Greenpeace Ships from intervening
-
you can see the water cannons in your sig... ::)
-
The sherpa may also be able to do that, not shure thought.
-
Here you she her in the real world
so yes she can

does this mean we can expect fetures like on-deck cranes where fitted, deck ramps on ferrys, ability to control lighting and other external equipment of a similar nature in the future, or is that just getting my hopes too high?
probably too late to put it in, but it would be nice to see an intergrated VHF style multiplayer communication interface (for those of us who have are certificates), as it would greatly improve realism... maybe an idea for a future add-on or game version if theres no way to get it in this one
even if we can't get this i'm still quite excited about the fire fighting... how long till we can expect pre-order to start?
kind regards 02ian

Hi 02ian,
Except a selected few, nobody knows exactly what we can expect in SSE. We'll just have to wait and see i guess.
Teamspeak is often used for vocal communication on multi player. As far as i know, IJTS is the only one at this moment who is offering a teamspeak server where English is the working language. This whole thing about equipment on the ships having a larger role, does this possibly include launching Zodiacs/Lifeboats from larger ships? That would be quite cool.
-
It appears so from the screenshots.
Well the lifeboats anyway.
-
I think that was just one of the RHIBs from the Frigate. But i wonder if you control them from the Frigate or you use it as a separate vessel
-
I see no reason why the RHIB would be controlled from the frigate, certainly the RHIB has a wheelhouse view which is only obtainable for player vessels in SS08.
Hope we can launch it!
!:) Trailer Launching for the RHIBs, Jetski, and powerboats?
-
i on the subject.life rafts, can they be launched.pretty much static item on ss08.!:) especially the larger ships ferrys.
-
Yep we can launch Zodiacs from the looks of this screen

I think this is the wrong place to post those pictures. Try the 'video and images topic'.

Hi guys,
I don't want to put a downer on things, and this is ONLY speculation, but although we might be able to launched boats from vessells, you must consider HOW they will be launched.
Afterall, we might just press a button on the interface, and we spawned into the launched boat rather than seeing it actually be put into the water.
Obviously I could be wrong and actually see them lift them into the water! :)
-
As long as it can be lowered into the water, that's good enough for me!
I probably was thinking a bit too advanced though, I was thinking you would have to press a button on either side of the Davit and then lower it down with a winch!!
-
How about a little launching cutscene?
-
Well yes that is certainly a possibility - but I just didn't want people to build up their hopes should it not quite be as amazing as people might expect :)
-
In reality the type of lifeboat fitted to "Agile Solution" is launched (After all are safely aboard) by releasing the holding mechanism from inside the boat and then, Whoosh, the boat drops into the water like a bullet. No gentle lowering at all. I suspect all the crew have safety belts to secure themselves in the boat before launching.
-
yeah... i remember seeing it on blue peter once (ages ago) they have those aircraft style seat belts with 4 straps that clip into a central mechanism from memory... however on some vessels the life boats are lanched by either a crane or davits... and that would be intresting to see... that said i'd like to see an animated small craft lifeboat... throw it over the side and pull the rope to make it inflate
(has anyone actually deployed one of these... i've installed a couple and it took 3 people to lift it onto the boat... and yet the instructions tell you to 'throw' them i can't even lift the thing (this was one of the small 4 person ones in the plastic container))
-
The crew is indeed strapped down in their seats. The crew - except the driver - sits backwards in the boat.

The driver pumps with the hydraulic pump the pin out to raise the FFB out of the locking device. After that, the boats falls with the help of gravity in the water. I'm always a bit disoriontated after the boat hits the water.
We also have 3 liferafts with a capacity of 16 persons each, 2 of them can be lowered by crane but could also be thrown. There are, indeed, very heavy!
