Title: What do you do most on Ship Simulator?
Post by: AriesDW on May 09, 2007, 17:12:02
I most often try piloting the Ocean Star, Titanic, or event the multipurpose vessel about the harbors (Rott and Hamburg). I often am doing scenarious as taking the vessel from dry dock to terminal, terminal to dry dock, or other numerous places. I also like to test vessel handling by putting the vessels in tight or tough situations - trying to push my piloting skills.

I am often playing with the Ocean Star because of her thrusters. Nothing more fun then moving the vessel at a crawl pace while trying to move sideways and rotate at the same time. 15% ahead, 50% stern thrust, 85% foreward, and just keep a sharp eye on your target, the wind, and the traffic . . . . FUN stuff

That´s a must! But definetely only from the bridge wings - not with the birds-eye-viewing! The latter is for simulation simulators... ;)

Cheers

Yes, gotta go it from the bridge wings. I am with you there! The thing that bothers me about the bridge wings is the lack of the floor glass, and that you cannot come closer to the "walls", thereby enabling better viewing as well. However, I spend most of my time on the ship at the bridge wings. I am not much of an external camera guy. It is great for screenshots, but that's about it.

With the container ship, it is allmost impossible to moore the ship without the birds eye view (but that is biceaus there is no bridge wing view).

And with mooring, I mean really putting the ship against the dock and not just in range for the ropes.

My favorite actions are towing a fleet of inland ships with the small tug (and the small surface vessel as a tug in the back), bringing and picking up a pilot with the harbor patrol ship and searching the impossible and difficult ways to moore big ships.

Yeah! I wish the bridgewings were accesible - that it the number one reason I do not pilot that ship.

I also have to try to dock/moor up perfectly - it is a simulation after all! ;D

I am always looking for those impossible piloting situations, also. What harbor do you often find most challenges in?

I too feel compelled to dock them properly (usually ends up with quite a bit of damage as the ropes pull the ship into the wall :-[) but I can't help but use the esternal view, I feel there's a lot more to see that way, even if it does decrease realism.

I wish there were more inland passages for those ships. I think that would really make them more enjoyable - especially with the new ability of the cranes to load and unload them.

I'm 100 % agree with this, that would by awesome, Rijn, Maas and Wester and Oosterschelde, these are very busy routes to challenge and handling. ;D

Maas is in the area of Rotterdam, yes? So is it possible to expand the Rotterdam game area to venture further on the Maas?

For those who don't know, the Maas is the river better known in English by its French name, the Meuse.  It is a great river, running athrough Netherlands, Belgium, and down into the heart of France.  Very scenic, and it would be great to have in the sim someday.

Cheers,
Michael

I never knew what the mass was but now you have explained it would be a nice area to put in the game one day.  :D

Greetings,
For the moment,i like to manouvre vessels in difficult places.
Steering the multi-purpose cargo vessel around the harbours.
Regards
Marc

Yes, I agree to the upper two posts - however, piloting down narrow, traffic-frequent waterways are fun to . . . Especially when the waterways are too tight to turn about in. ;D

I think the port of Antwerp would be a verry good addition, beceaus between the port of Antwerp and the port of Rotterdam are all those channels, rivers and waterways wich Jomach requested.

There even is the "Schelde-Rijn-kanaal(=channel) between Antwerp and Rotterdam.
Wichwould be a verry well addition for the inland ships.

But to go back on topic, I hate the fact that the tug in the back of the ship can't be used as a "towing" ship.
If that would heve been possible, I wouldn't stop manouvering the titanic with the tugs. ;D
