I have been looking at pictures of ship sim while waiting for mine to arrive but I noticed that you can't dock any Red Jet 4 at her berth at Southampton... Any reason for this?

Of course, this is only the lay by berth - the real berth is by the Hythe Ferry Terminal. But, as shown by the picture from Diamant, yes there is a berth there :)

But I was told you can't moor there.. am I right? you can go there but not moor?

Looks like with a little damage on the bow - so yes, not easy to berth there. ;D

I may have been a bit to...speedy for berthing... Besides, I am not so good berthing vessels without bow thrusters... I am practising though... ;D

It depends, if you play alone it's possible to moor in the game, but if you are on multiplayer you cannot moor anywhere :thumbdown:

I know people are saying about the dock in southampton but what about the East Cowes Ferry terminal. Is there one there?

There certainly is.
Many of the missions I've written for Red Eagle have used that one.
It's difficult to miss it. As you enter Cowes, going past the wall on the port (left) side, it's just a few hundred metres along on that side.

Besides, I am not so good berthing vessels without bow thrusters... I am practising though... ;D
You should give Elbe a try in some close spaces. Awfully hard to dock, but I've cracked it :thumbs:

I have Elbe (and Furie, I purchased them with the Ocean Star), and she is a great little vessel. :2thumbs:

Its quite hard to give hints, because we all tend to have our own way of doing things. But what I tend to do with Elbe is, head at around 2-3 knots towards the wall, turn her to whatever is appropriate to the situation, then, put the telegraph dead center, then go astern, turn the wheel again the opposite direction so your moving your stern into the wall, then just back in a little bit, and then turn the wheel opposite to what you just did, so your now central on the wall.
I know, its hard to "get across", but You'll see what I mean :)
What it boils down to is speed, too much speed and your out of control, too less, no control at all. It just takes practice really.

p.s. Furie is very easy to dock, if you haven't already tried her at Phi Phi, do, its a nice little challenge. Its what I tried first, got it first time with patience :thumbs: :)

So Red Jets go on that side. And a tip of going along side a dock to berth:
You must be at least 1 or less knots to not get major damage, go too fast and keep bumping into a wall of the berth, you will sink. I am fine at docking all the ships that are ferries, and they are Ship Sim08, M.V. Pride of Rotterdam, M.V. Red Eagle, and Catamaran Red Jet 4. I will be trying to dock the Titanic perfectly like she would of in the White Star Line Dock in New York of 1912. Some people are saying that iy was torn down completley and was built over with a tennis court. But it wasn't. Lokk more south of the tennis court and zoom in to the point where each dock meet the mainland. Some docks south of the Tennis court, you will see some metal at the joint of the dock. What you will be seeing is the true location of the White Star Dock.

As I found out in SS the Red Jet is very manoeuvrable. Wouldn't be hard to sweep round

But she is hard to stop from hitting the wall of her berth. At least she ain't superfast or she would have been unstoppable.

You just got to be patient, in real life, ships don't moore at a speed of 7 knots.
That is something a lot of people do wrong in ss, they go to fast.
In real life, a lot of paint would be lost.

I am quite pleased with myself. Earlier on, starting form the Marina off the River Itchen, I sailed RJ4 to the Red Jet lay-up berth, moored her there, then crossed the Solent to Cowes moored her, realised she was the wrong way, so turned her around and moored her again! with 0 damage! Okay, it took a few shunts to get her in properly, but I berthed eventually!
As said, with RJ4 it is a matter if patience, and remembering not to speed.

Haha, I've seen it myself here at Fleetwood. Some guy's not having a clue what they were doing spun around, and gave it some throttle into their berth, and hit the gangway so hard that it took a chunk out of their bow :o ::)
Good job that the tide was low, if it were high, its possible the damage could of been under the waterline....
