1 knot = 1.15077945 mph

So multiple amount of knots to 1.15

Or you can take a look here:

www.calculateme.com/Speed/index.htm (http://www.calculateme.com/Speed/index.htm)

You put in the amount of knots you are doing, and it will show you in MPH!

Hi marcstrat,
You should have said 1 Nautical Mile not 1 knot. Simple mistake, but could be misleading. A knot is a velocity, a nautical mile (and a kilometre) is a distance.

Angus.

Hoy Traddles,
This how i should wrote it.

Knots and mp/h are both the same :P

No they're knot.  ;D

But no they're not. A nautical mile is longer than a terrestrial mile. UK miles are different to US miles as well.

1 nautical mile is about 1.15077945 British miles.

So, as Austin said (and I quote):
1 knot = 1.15077945 mph

A nautical mile is the distance subtended on the surface of the earth by an angle of 1minute of arc at the centre of the earth. It actually varies slightly in length due to the fact that the Earth is not a perfect sphere but a spheroid. This makes the poles closer to the centre of the earth than the equator, in turn making a nautical mile at the poles slightly shorter than at the equator. The nautical mile is now a standardised measure somewhere between the two extremes. If you travel due north or south between two latitudes differing by 10 you will have travelled exactly 60 nautical miles.

But 10 knots isn't 10 mph...

a Nautical Mile is not the same as a "Ordinary" Land Mile

If any of you are considering writing missions for SSE, you will be overjoyed to hear that in many of the conditions and actions you need to enter the speed in meters/second.
No worries, Uncle Marty has provided the hot number in the notes.

hi Marty,

not quite relevant to speed I know, but can you set angles in the mission Editor as well? I have ideas about doing a zigzag manoeuvre and possibly a spiral manoeuvre in a mission?
