Title: {Topic Name Changed} Do you think this is a decent PC for Ship Sim?
Post by: IRI5HJ4CK on November 23, 2008, 19:08:50
Hi Guys,

This was a topic about my friends computer, but, I found a nice looking computer from ALDI.

What do you think of this one?

http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/58_7963.htm

Or, is it best to wait and get something from say....Dell?

Aperently, Dell offer different options, so you can pick what you want in your "machine".

Just saw that computer from Aldi, and wondered what you guys think, Although, I think you might say that the best option to choose would be to go to somewhere like Dell.

Thanks!

Jack.

Not familiar with the graphics card, but the rest of it looks OK.

Very good! So, would you reccommend me getting something like that If I want to run future versions of Ship Simulator?

Jack :)

If you can afford it, I'd get one with more memory.

With 3 or 4GB, the next thing would be an Nvidia 8800 GTX video card, or better.

If you still have enough money, get a faster processor. SS10 is coming at some stage in the future.

Right, ok. What computer would you reccommend in that case? any in particular? (I'd rather spend the money on something good now, rather than getting a computer that isn't as good and "paying" for it later)

Thanks,
Jack :)

There are just so many available. I couldn't suggest aything, really. I generally build mine.

Although I do have a few I've bought. But those are just when I go past a computer shop and see something they're selling off cheap and that I can easily and cheaply upgrade.

Ohhh, ok Terry, thanks for your help! I'll start searching now....and saving my pennies :D

"Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves"

I hope that the above saying is true :D

Thanks a million,
Jack.

That's a great deal of money for that spec of PC. I'd have thought 300 would be more appropriate for that, to be honest.

thats not expensive at all, its only $895 thats a freakin awesome deal. Normally you can only get a computer of those specs for over well $1000. And 300 pounds, which is $447 won't get you much, i don't know if things are cheaper in UK but $447 wont get much.

Yeah, I noticed that in the States you do seem to pay a lot more than over here. Some years ago, I would buy "tecchie" stuff from teh USA when we went to visit the folks. But not for some years, as it got quite expensive.

mine cost me $1,400, but it was well worth the price. The saying is "you buy cheap you get cheap" So even though stuff is cheap its not always good :D
