Title: I'm after a gaming laptop - advice, anyone?
Post by: TerryRussell on August 13, 2008, 09:09:17
Hi chaps!

My wife's laptop (A Rockwell) has burnt out its motherboard for the second time in a year so it's now been chucked in the bin.

We're looking for a top-notch gaming laptop. Wide screen, number pad, plenty of usb sockets, lots of memory and HDD space. Fast processor. She plays Oblivion a lot.

Must have a numberpad as well.

Anyone know any good makes and also any advice on bad experiences?

Please, I'm only after up to date advice. It's no use telling me that 3 years ago you bought a good/bad model, as it became obsolete 2.99 years ago.

Thanks in advance!  ;D

Thanks.

Amazingly, it's already been replaced by another version!

Apparently, my wife needs it to have a built-in numberpad as well, she has informed me. Sorry, I didn't say that originally.

So, back to the drawing board...

Many thanks!

Hi Mike.

Well, the girl who has everything. including one of me, has one already. But she prefers a built-in number pad as it won't shoot across the room when she's slaying demons with it.

I'm not sure if she hits demons over the head with it while twirling it on the lead, but that might explain the high casualty rate with her laptopns.

Hi Luc.

Pretty much any gate is a gateway. Entrances to football stadiums, airports all sorts of things!

I showed that Laptop to 'er indoors, and her eyes lit up! She's looking at it right now. Thank you.

toshibas website has very nice gaming laptops.  Bit pricey mine was just a general laptop and it was about 1,600 so dont be shocked by the prices.

Gentlemen, thank you all, very much.

We are going shopping shortly (so I'm told). First stop is PC world in Chichester then there is another, much bigger one towards Southampton. After that we're going to Novatech (at the northern end of Portsmouth Harbour) where I have a trade account.

At some stage, Madam will point and say "that one", at which stage I will become slightly poorer...

If the tides up, I can bring the tender up to within about 200 yards.

In the end we went in Chichester PC World and found what m'lady wanted. But we couldn't get any of the sales team to be interested enough to take our money (despite the fact that there were 6 of them and only us in the shop, they were far too interested in yabbering to each other).

So, we stomped off after I'd found the Store Manager and explained my point of view very loudly. We went to Hedge End PC World and it was completely different. A pleasant young lady came up and asked if she could help and so on.

In the end we bought a Toshiba P300-19P. 4GB RAM, dual core P8400, 320GB HDD, camera, etc.

Thanks for the input, everyone. Much appreciated.
