i was doing a bit of research today on SS09 but i did not find much and came past a video of SS07, i canot belive how similar it looks with SS08, BUT when i looked at the oil rig mission when you have to pic up the containers, it hit me why is it that in SS07 you can acualy see a crane loading taking up the containers when in SS08 you just see a progress circle, and the sea looks a bit more random, why were these kind of feature removed in SS08, sometimes i question myself....what is VSTEP up to sometimes?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhaIQsWOBh4 - weather and waves look a bit more random and realistic, turn up your speakers a bit ;)

Actually SS07 is SS08. They changed name from SS07 to SS08 because it was released late in 2007 so it was no point in using the name Ship Simulator 2007....or something like that :)

Yes, you're right, they changed the name.

SS2007 was in development but then they decided to change it to SS2008 because some countries wouldn't get it until late in the year ;)
-
Indeed.
There is no SS07, that was supposed to be the title at first. But as it was release late in 2007, they decided to go with SS08, or else the game would have been "old" in a few months. Happens all the time with games, you don't want it to have a year old sounding title right away, that's not good for sales.
And the reason that the old clips have things in them that are not in SS08, is because those were never fully developed, or were just not feasable to put in at the time. Some things might not have worked properly, some things may have been unfinished, things like that. This also is quite normal with games that are under development, not everything that is planned, makes it in.

do you think that the stuff in some of the SS07 youtube videos will make it into the final game
-
Well, some of it may, some may not. Only time will tell, but as far as I know, some of the things are still being developed indeed. Maybe it wont make it into SS08, but it could come around in SS09.
Nothings impossible.. theoretically. ;D

It still confuses me why they got rid of the blue deck on the PoR for SS2008 - that's how it's meant to be:

EDIT: These Lifeboats look like they could loose a little weight to me.
-
I thought the PoH had that? I guess we came to the wrong conclusion in that google earth thread where you see the difference;

(http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/6971/hulldn2.png) (http://imageshack.us)
So the PoR actually has the partially blue decks and the PoH is all green? Then indeed I wonder why they changed it around.

I have been on both ships and both are the same - PoH Blue, PoR blue - both of those images in Google Earth are of the Pride of Rotterdam (PoH has an additional P&O logo at the front)
It must be the way the light has hit the ship from that angle.
-
Good bit of info, cheers!
Yeah could be the way the light hits it, though it's a big difference in color,... perhaps it was changed along the way sometime? Oh well I don't know. I was judging by the wear and tear on the car deck that seems a bit different, aswell as the radar mast that looks different on the bottom picture so I thought these weree both sisters. But one picture is from 2007 and the other from 2008..
I do think that there is a small P&O logo on the side of the bottom one, near the bow, just where the shadow of one of the pier's pillars hits it. Or don't you mean that one?
-
You can tell the first pic is of the Pride of Rotterdam - the PoH has a P&O logo below the bridge.
You can see both ships, however, have a green roof.

However, some pictures on the web show both with a blue roof.

I remember from my trip on the ship that this is some kind of plastic layer (Probably weather protection) and since we have a Google Earth pic showing it without this, likely to be removable.
That's the end of a long puzzle for me then **sighs with relief**
Looks like VSTEP got it ok then.
-
;D
Righto, removable layer.. works for me mate. (http://planetsmilies.net/happy-smiley-638.gif) (http://planetsmilies.net)

It just goes to show that "a bit of research" is never enough to cover all the bases.
Vstep got it right it seems so all of the posts about how Vstep got it wrong were wrong. Or am I wrong?
I am now dizzy...

You are right in saying that all the people who posted saying VSTEP got it wrong were wrong, however you were wrong in saying you were wrong about the people saying VSTEP were wrong ;)
-
Right!
-
Wrong... i was wrong.
Terry was actually right in saying that the people who said VSTEP were wrong were wrong, but he was wrong in saying he was wrong about the people who said VSTEP were wrong being wrong.
Did i just repeat myself? *Collapses to the floor*

My brain hurts. ::) :o
-
im with terry on that. I need a Advil. Three wrongs make a right

Was on the ship last week and....i'm wrong again ::)
Both ships do indeed have blue weather protection on the upper deck, but it isn't covering green paint like in the game..it's covering blue paint ::)
However some pictures (Like the GE one above) show a green roof, so...we have to assume that they were repainted some time for no apparent reason.

EDIT: OOPS! never read wher the topic was heading before posting!
It does help to read it ;D
-
The name was changed from SS07 to SS08 just like the RMS Gigantic was changed to the RMS Britannic!
EDIT: OOPS! never read wher the topic was heading before posting!
Does the "remove post" function no longer work, then? If it doesn't work for you, let me know and I will gladly do it for you.
-
POOF!
It can be hard to remember some of these functions sometimes ;)
And now Nathan|C posted twice in a row! :P

Ahoy Ship(sim)mates,
When I have a look at this videoclip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhaIQsWOBh4 I have the idea that it is simulair to the same in the SS08 Pro videoclip on the SS homepage.
Plz feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Regards
Aad
BTW, the remove function is ON till You reload the message. Then it's gone. STRANGE ???

It works differently for me so I wasn't sure, which is why I asked the question. When the forum was updated a few months ago, a few things changed, subtly.

Its a shame they didn't add this ship:

The semi-submersible Fairmount Fjell!

Maybe they will in ShipSim 2008 Pro ;D
-
Well, that would be great!
But I am not going to spend €2000 on a game. ;)
For that amount of money, I can go out for 4 years!
And I like going out more then SS ;D
-
Ship Sim Pro is not a game. It is intended for the professionals, i.e. the shipping companies.
It would be most inadvisable to purchase it without fuly understanding its capabilities and its purpose.
-
What's in a name? PRO says it all, I thought.
