Exactly as the title suggests; what a rip off this game is. I downloaded it 2 days ago and already I have found more bugs in it than in an established ant farm!
Here are a few I have found;
1. On Pilot Needed (Solent) misson; I reach the first waypoint, get transferred to the next environment, and the pilot boat I am steering starts spinning round making it impossible to control.
2. The P&O ferry mission from San Fransisco to Phi Phi Islands: Reach the first waypoint beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, transferred to the Phi Phi environment, and the ferry immediately sinks.
3. Rotterdam-Hull Mission: I was sailing up the port when a supertanker passing me just suddenly stood on its nose and sank.
4. Same mission: Twice in a row when I statted the mission the ferry immediately sank. I had to close down the game altogether and restart it again for it to be fixed.
5. Same mission as above (again) : I came to the end of the environment and had a window pop up asking me to choose another destination. I hovered my mouse over the white circles indicating other environments, and sure enough a little description pops up in the window. However, when I move the mouse away to click on OK, the description of the environment disappears from the window and I am unable to click on go. I was unable to click on any environment, and had to abandon the game.
I notice on the webpage it gives a list of upcoming functions in the expected update patch, functions such as saving halfway through a mission. Surely this should have been included in the first release game?
It strikes me that this game was release before it was completed, and certainly appears that nobody tested it before releasing it. This game is a joke! If anybody is considering getting it then STOP! Spend your money on something else - anything else, just not this poor excuse for an unfinished game!! >:(

:P
-
Yes, your completely right. Waiting SO long for a decent game.....what a shame :'(
You can say ''It is just a game'' But it is also my money ;)
-
Thanks for the advice! I was just going to buy it but they didn't accept paypal. >:(

U serious???

Absolutely certain, and did check first before dissing the product. I am able to play other, more resource hungry games, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator X, X3: The Reunion, and Oblivion, with no problems. My pc specs are; Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz E6600; 4GB RAM, 256 MB nVidia GeForce 7900GS graphics card, Vista Home Premium 64-bit - so plenty of clout there.
I have to say that I purchased the game as I thought it was by Microsoft: The font/style that VStep have used in the game's title is identical to the way that MS use for their Flight Simulator games, so I thought it was by the same people :-[
-
Well, let's wait for the updates then... 8)
There is no other solution to fix such stuff :-*
-
2. The P&O ferry mission from San Fransisco to Phi Phi Islands: Reach the first waypoint beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, transferred to the Phi Phi environment, and the ferry immediately sinks.
suddenly stood on its nose and sank.
the ferry immediately sank.
At least you actually have sinking in your game! :D
-
I dont want them to sink ::)
-
guys, we are all doing if this game is the biggest **** in the world!
there are also a lot of good points at ship simulator, but we don't see them because we are all focused on the buggs,
and ok, there are a lot of bugs so maybe they need a BETA tester, that would be a nice idea for them, to putt a beta tester in it.
but the only thing that reallymakes scence to me is that ships can not (yet) sink, even it was in the features list.
my advice for the players:
1.take also a good look at the good points of Ship simulator
2.don't listen to others, the one likes it and the other not, so don't think that a game is what others say.
my advice to the game creators:
use BETA testers before selling the product ;)
No need for that language though. Stuart
-
I think those who dont like the simulator because of the bugs should wait for the patch and see if the bugs still are there ;)
-
Good point :D ^ ^ ^

they HAD beta testers... ???

well, i guess that they only tested a little

No, unfortunately I did not see the forum until after I had purchased the game. I have to agree that if it were not for the bugs it would be a great game, though I do find the missions way too short, especially the large ferry missions :-[

A. Second version. Shipsim hasn't been around for two whole years yet.
B. I think that telling people to stop isn't because some people probably think it's a good game. I do ;)

Once again, works fine on my system. Maybe a re-install would help?

Maybe :-\
Because i have this problem too. I will!

:o well i suppose all new proggrams have problems i mean look at windows vista
but it would be ok for a glitch here and there but there is too many at the moment on shipsim 2008

Re-installing won't help. It is a known bug in the software, which will be solved with the next patch.

No worries ;D

Just received my copy of Ship Simulator 2008 and logged in to the forum to see what eveyone else thought.
I have felt that some of the features such as saving mid activity should be in the game. This is a feature of Microsoft's simulators and I felt that this should have been detected in the 2006 version where saving would have been good.
Also enjoyed the 206 version and add on but what happened to the cruise liner in 2008. If you are going to have ships in the solent isn't a cruise ship paramount and that would have made a really good activity. Maybe the creators should think about adding a cruise liner and maybe a realistic one like Queen Mary 2 would be good. Imagine an open sea mission from Southampton to New York with saving ability - it would be like flight simulator.
Also with the 2006 addon you had audio on the bridge (ok it may have been a repetitive) but it made it more realistic. Soemthing else which an add on could include, also if it could be more specific to the harbour you are in so that it is not the same audio in Pompey as it is in San Francisco.
I was really looking forward to this add on and I feel that some parts of the game have been a let down.
Hopefully a patch to incorporate saving isn't too far off as is a add on pack bring some of the above elements in where possible.
-
The saving thing will be released in a patch, somewhere in August/September, if you look at the main page ( www.shipsim.com ) and click on gameplay you will see things which will be released with patches.

Great post.
There is no excuse for these errors all of which I can verify.
Missions make up the majority of the gameplay. For so many to have such glaring flaws is utterly inexcusable.
I can't even select custom missions.
I'm a transport sim Beta Tester myself (fortunately not of this). I cannot understand how this got through not only the "outside" volunteer testers but also internal Beta testers.
I can only assume that cash generation was urgently needed and release was therefore rushed way before it should have been.
Ship Sim 2006 was a far more stable product even before patches (or the add-on).
Like another member I also cannot understand the omission of the bridge audio it did add a touch of realism.
I can't understand why the scrolling in/out of mouse for internal/external view was changed? I liked this
Yes there have been some graphical improvements in 2008 but in some ways even if everything was working perfectly in this release there still seems something "missing" I can't quite put my finger on it.
But I don't even agree that graphically everything is better. Externally ships are very nice. But take the walkaround option. It's so bland I don't really see the point. Hardly a good ad for P&O that nobody wan't to ride on their ship. However perhaps they all fell through that hole on the lower deck near the lifeboats??!!
Sticking on graphics in mission 1 look at the deck of the boat you are rescuing the guy from. It's appalling and I have a high spec PC. I haven't seen creations this bad on a PC since the days of a 386/486.
Yes you can change wave height but it still seems that something is amiss when it is exactly the same wave type (rolling) just bigger.
Crane loading - what is the point? Wouldn't the time spent on creating such a mundane task been better spent elsewhere. But even that doesn't work 2 of my 4 containers just plunged straight through the cargo vessell making yet another mission unusable.
Who the heck tested these missions and passed them for the release candidate? Small errors in 1 or 2 may be excusable but this is a mess. I paid £24.99 for this and I feel ripped off - I feel sorry for those who paid £34.99
The marketing email was interesting though with the promise of great things being added in the patch later this year - completely free of course. Reading behind the lines I read "look you're not going to like this product but we're taking your money now so we can make it worth owning later on."
I'm a big console fan too and if games developers want PC owners to stop defecting to consoles they have got to do better than this - much better.

There are bugs in all games, get used to it, enjoy the summer and relax, its a damn good game and the patch will fix the minor problems in the game.

Minor problems! I call them pretty major myself. Yes the patch may fix the issues, but the issues should have been fixed prior to its release. i cannot accept that bugs like these were not noted prior to release. I will enjoy the summer - by uninstalling this game and seeing what I can do to get my money back.

As all sailors here are pointing out, I do notice a lot of bugs in SS08. Mutch more than in other games / simulators. A finished product or not, I am still very happy for it to be releesed. I have been waithing for this kind of simulator for a long time and I hope that addon developers will make addons and models as in FSX and FS2004...
I hope that the patch wil come as soon as posible, and then this simulator will "shine".
(pleace excuse my english. its not perfect) ;)
-
One thing on a positive note. After a bit of a tutorial from a real world ships officer, I've tried the dynamics of PoR and it worked exactly as I'm told it should.
Yes, there are bugs. This is something new, but for every bad point you find, you could find 10 good points. The fact that the basic dynamics are sorted now is a pretty big step, I think.

If I can just offer a little personal opinion here:
Ship Simulator was first released in 2006, a great deal of the features we asked for have been included, or are being developed as we type ;)
Development of any game is a long and difficult process, bugs don't always reveal themselves in the development stage.
Look at it this way, Vstep are keeping us fully informed of the situation and are working hard to correct the problems that we are experiencing, how many other developers do that? In my experience, not many and never to the extent that Vstep have kept us updated :)
I know what you may be thinking, he's a Moderator, he's obviously going to say that. I am also an avid Ship Simulator gamer and I believe in recognition for a great piece of software.
Any bugs will be corrected, I have no doubt about that at all ;)
To add a little perspective on this subject, check out a game I bought in December 2006:

well, I also buy some rail simulator stuff now and then. If you want to know about developers releasing half done software and then abandoning customers, you won't need to look too hard.
Echoing DJM- if I may, Vstep have made enormous strides in this software... I think they deserve a little faith personally.

I would also like to ad: SS08 is a really complex simulator. And i think the developers has done a great job in making SS08, in that short time. I have tried SS06, -08 is a huge step forward to perfection.
....and I have great faith in that all bugs will be fixed. ;)
-
VSTEP had a set release date and coudn't delay, so they decided to add some features later as patches, like sinking, saving, the mission creator, and more. KM

I've been enjoying SS2008 since saturday(when my cd box arrived) and I'm not disappointed, not even a little bit, I own both SS2006 and the Addon expansion pack, and this one is excellent, of course, there are bugs, but not a show stopper, I noticed a couple of cranes in merseilles (in the repair stuff mission, in the first mooring bit)that has not been textured, but nothing that will stop my enjoyment.
I have been playing with SS2008 non-stop, I wish I had the save function for longer missions, but no problem, and I wish the water spray had a bit more volume, but then again...not a problem!
I'm very happy with SS2008 and VSTEP has "failed again" in "disappointing me" hehehehe ;D
in other words, SS2008 is in every bit as i expected and more.
Thanks VSTEP for the great work!

Just something about that what happens if you dont have the net and cant patch up the bugs?
-
I'm a little dissapointed, yes the graphics and ships detail are very good but the areas you sail in should be bigger, yes they are very detailed but at least you should have been able to go around the Isle of wight surely.
No tides or currents thats like having a flight sim without runways, I mean thats one of the most challenging aspects of ship handling but it's not here.
Ship handling and controls are another one of my dislikes, these could be much better I'm unhappy with the red Eagle and Red Jet 4 and the tugs (all right nearly all of the ships then) they don't simulate anything close to handling or control wise, some of the controls may look similar but operate in a completely different way so it makes it a game and not a simulator in my opinion.
I am going to reserve myself until the patch/addon etc are released but they better fix alot of these problems as I could get very bored with this game! very quickly.
-
a little question about the features of the patches, will all these features placed in the next patch or will that be placed in other patches? :)
-
Just something about that what happens if you dont have the net and cant patch up the bugs?
As I'm sure you are aware, patches are kind of a way of life now, development of software (games/utilities) is not perfect and bugs can occur in many different ways. Example:
Online bugs are the most common in my opinion, Battlefield Series anyone? :P It is my belief that a lot of bugs reveal themselves when different/non-standard specs are introduced. Unfortunately, it's not possible for developers to check every PC configuration that is available.
Some of us like to setup our PC's with specific hardware that WE choose rather than off-the-shelf PC's, this again can reveal all sorts of problems that developers of ANY software can not possibly expect.......foresight is a wonderful thing, but most of us have to put up with hindsight ;).
Bugs can also appear because of certain hardware conflicts, this is heightened by the fact that some of us do have specific setups.
Bearing all this in mind, patches are inevitable. If I didn't have an internet connection, I would ask a friend or family member to let me use their connection (which I have done in the past), not ideal I know, but at least it's an option ;)
Regards.

a little question about the features of the patches, will all these features placed in the next patch or will that be placed in other patches? :)
Patch development, as with software development is ongoing. The most important aspects will usually be dealt with first, then the other stuff. This can mean that patching takes the form of more than 1 release. this is the best way to do things in my opinion, take care of any bugs first, then 'load us up' with the extra's :D

I downloaded this game 3days ago and love it. ;D I've only done a few of the missions, as I've mostly been trying out the free roam side of things, but so far haven't noticed any problems. Lucky, I suppose.
I am still amazed that in this day and age, people still moan about bugs in their PC games. I personally accept the fact that games get released with bugs in them. There is a massive amount of work in a game so problems slip in. That's what patches are for, and at least the glitches are generally fixable. Take a game like Stalker, that was in development for something like 7 years. It had no sooner hit the shelves than they'd released a patch for it. And we won't start on EA and BF2.
The thing with most forums is that people use them to complain. You very rarely get people praising a game. If you decide not to buy a PC game because people on a forum have highlighted a few bugs, then you are going to save yourself a fortune, because you won't be buying too many PC games. Like I said, I love this game, and if I do come across any problems, I'll post them in the forums, where I'm sure they'll be looked at. Until then, I'll keep playing and enjoying the positives, while I wait for all the goodies due in the September update.
-
People shouldn't pay attention to croakers like MHP, there are always people who are unhappy at all times, the game is excellent and a few moaners will not spoil that :)
-
Spoil it? It is just the truth. We are unhappy with some things, so we report them here.
Hopefully the developers can learn about the reported bugs.
-

MPH have said his words about the game, and he find too many bugs (probably like coops find too many bugs in a society). ;D
MPH, if this game was a mistaken purchase for you then I recommend you to get your money back, and look for another game instead. I don’t like your method about convincing others to not buy the game. People decide themselves what they want to buy and we don’t need a police man for that. :P
It’s pretty unprofessional to read such comment like “arresting†those who make this game. Get your money back instead and go back to your job. :P
My last gentle advice. Maybe they should lock the topic now, or we all get arrested. ;)
-
Spoil it? It is just the truth. We are unhappy with some things, so we report them here.
Hopefully the developers can learn about the reported bugs.
If they have time left after scrolling through all the problems that have been reported dozens of time... I guess it would help if people used the searchfunction and didn't make new topics for old bugs.
ps. MPH is no police officer, no police officer would reveal his employment on a public gameforum or threaten to 'arrest'. I know enough police officers to know MPH isn't one.

It is simply expressing my own opinion, just as you have done; I hope that it is alright for me to do so?
-
Yes ofcourse! ;)
-
It is simply expressing my own opinion, just as you have done; I hope that it is alright for me to do so?
Absolutely I'm 100% with you. That's the point of an honest opinion. You, like me, have clearly tried many missions and options before coming to the same conclusion.
If you buy a brand new car you don't keep quiet if it starts ok but the boot (translation to US = Trunk ;D) won't open, it keeps stalling, the bodywork is scratched and the windscreen wipers don't work. Why then do we accept second best with software?
Yes, I agree, we have got used to bugs in software, it is a way of life.
That does not mean it's right.
What's more you have to put the level of bugs into comparison with other similar software.
If you are just talking about a couple of minor niggles I can live with that.
But it is far from that. Try EVERY mission and see for yourself.
Don't get me wrong underneath the bonnet (= hood ;D) there is a fine engine.
There is a lot of scope for Ship Sim to really rock your boat and I look foward to a time when it can cope with for example a Dover/Calais ferry or hovercraft round trip crossing the busy English channel shipping lanes without having to pause for a mid-sea-load and at the same time enjoying a realistic audio with truly dynamic weather changes. How about random events such as an engine problem requiring a return to port or a sudden strike at the destination port requiring a diversion to the next port? Sure sailing round Alcatraz is a start but scope is limited at the moment.
Whilst open sea missions are possible in SS2008 the developers seem to have thought that users won't want to sail the whole journey. To me that thought is wrong (or at least ought to be an option). As long as event's in a mission can be interesting with plenty to see along the coastline, shipping, dynamic weather changes and changing sea conditions (wouldn't mind seeing the odd aircraft too) I don't mind several hours sailing as long as you can save the simulation along the way.
I don't get bored flying long haul in FSX, in fact I quite fancy a round-the-world virtual cruise.
I don't think we are too far adrift from that and I hope that eventually (SS2010 ??) The developers may have similar vision too.
I hope so - I love transport sims.
Dave :)

Hmm,

You've convinced me not to buy the game now.
Hi Matt
Closing the thread would not help, would it? Constructive criticism is always a good thing- provided we do it in a polite, restrained way- and most people are really.
Some of these posts will have you believing that every feature of every mission is bugged- it isn't. I've just tried the PoR departure from Rotterdam SIX times (better timescore each time :) ) and I haven't encountered a single bug on that mission. Yes, like others I've seen bugs elsewhere but it is hardly destroying my enjoyment of the game. Most of the bugs are little quirky bits- OK the container ship sinking in the background is odd, but hardly stopping you using it until the patch.
If you have decided to not buy because of the posts in this thread, have you looked at some of the other threads that are positive? I would :)

When i'm sailing in the Rotterdam Harbor, and i see boats like the Pilot boat and the RPA 12 sailing there, when i look long enough, they just sink. Going beneath the surface, and you see some splashing water continuing its route. I know i've said this many times before, but i think it's odd that there are still people here saying they don't see these bugs. ???

Maybe because it doesn't happen on all computers? I play the game too, and I have never, ever seen that bug.

Sure it's got some bugs in it and this has already begun to affect my enjoyment, but I'm sure they will be fixed soon. I'm pleased I was able to get it as soon as possible.

Flying tug :(
There you got one of my bugs
-
Per Official Announcement: All bugs will be fixed and all promised game features will be provided - all free and all before the end of the year, starting in August. I think I can live with that.

Regarding DJM's 'Patches are a way of life'. To my knowledge they are not in the console platform area where downloaded patches are virtually impossible. So if they can get it right why not for PC games or is it that as usual we are the guinea pigs for everybody.
Yes I have both 06' and the add-on and agree with most people that the missions here are very easy and short....and what as happened to the online scores .... although I rarely hit the top 50 I liked to check to see how far away I was and curse at the people who had ridiculous times. It was part of the fun.

Exactly, just because console developers can't patch up bugs in the game after release does not mean they release games without bugs. In fact it's worse, they release games, knowing there are bugs and knowing that nothing can be done about them unless you happen to be one of the people that buys later versions of the game.

little help please :). i installed SS08 today and it does work but the sea is plain black and the land is just white. probably need to get a new graphics card. i have an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX card at the moment and it runs MSFS 2004 great but not SS08. so could someone recommend a decent graphics card to fix the problem please?
thanks
-
Hi,
The minimum graphics card is the geforce5900. I got the pc updated to the 7600 and it works great.
Have you registered your ss08 liscence key in your profile? Then you will have access tech support.
Hope this helps!

Don't release a product if its not ready for the market you will only damage your public view and it will hurt your pocket. I wonder how long it will be till you get your first slamming by the media.
-
Maybe,
But most people seem generally happy and have faith that it will be remedied. It's the companies that release software and DON'T remedy bugs that cause the problems.
It is true that there are some irritating glitches, but on the whole does it not appear to be nearly there? It is always problematic releasing new software and this is pushing the boundary quite hard.

I'm certainly happy with it, the patches and new features will make it even better.

I would third it... But I can't count that far.

1. Almost all Games on new consoles get patchs!
2. Was it not the same way with ShipSim 2006? First almost nothing with a lot of bugs and after a few month less bugs and more content?

How's that work? ???

Well that's good to know but the discussion involved previous generation consoles.

I was happy to here that almost inmediatly a patch was announced for the problems. PLUS extra content. Don't know if anyone here plays Test drive unlimited. Well I DID.The game had so many bugs etc. etc. After a few motnhs they decided to annonce a patch. It should come out by the end of may I believe. It was released this monday and when I installed the patch I got 2 cars for free, also I got 10000000000 of bugs for free.
SO everybody here be pleased to here that they are inmediatly started working on the bugs. If you don't want to play this buggy game, nobody has a gun to youre head. Put the game on hold for a month or 2, download the patch and start playing then ;)
-
The thing to remember here is that any bugs we report they at least show some effort in trying to fix them there are alot of companys out there that don't and look at FSX that was so demanding that most computers could not run it so they had to do a major patch for that and flight sim has been about for 20years ship sim is still a baby compeared to that so things can only get better 8)
-
You know why such implements weren't added to the game and were listed as upcoming features dont you? Being a programmer I can tell you now that most programmers already have a main application that already does everything in the up coming features, or have it already planned out and ready to add to the game.
Funny thing here is everyone whinges about bugs here and there, and yet the developers know you will stick around and buy there software, because you keep raving about it.
Then when a patch comes out, it will fix most of the issues, but other issues will be caused by the patch which always causes other issues, its life, it happens.
If the original poster complains so much about it being a waste of time, why are you still posting and complaining, obviously there is something about the game that wasn't a waste of money otherwise you wouldn't still be here.
A patch will come soon enough, then there will be more whinges.
-
New consoles have wi-fi. My Wii and PS3 are always updating themselves.
Same with my xbox360, half the time when I get new games it pops up and says "Updates Avaliable"
And just wait untill a patch comes out. It will be better then. You can never have a bug-free game, computers just don't work that way yet.
-
another terrible bug: http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,1192.0.html
that BETA testers did their best........ ::)

I'm still here, despite having uninstalled the game because I am interested in how others are getting on.
Hope that's okay.
-
This game wasn't a waste of money. I got SS06 back in January and bought SS08 3 days ago. This is only there second ship simulator so I expected bugs, but with the people on the forums reporting and talking about them, on august 17th when the first patch comes out, most of the bugs you found will be gone.
I can live untill August. And it is fun playing with bugs and trying to find them all.
Oh and for this
Well, I'm a police officer, so I could arrest them Grin
I am sure they are out of your jurisdiction.
And if your to "Dumb" to know what jurisdiction means...
The right and power to apply the law; the territorial range of legal authority or control.

..And if your to "Dumb" to know what jurisdiction means...The right and power to apply the law; the territorial range of legal authority or control.
Yes, I know what jurisdiction is - I am a police officer, so I should hope I do know it's meaning. The comment about me arresting them was tongue-in-cheek (i.e. a joke), hence the grin icon next to it.

Perhaps you should consider studying entomology......

I don't think we need to turn this topic of conversation into a 'Let's have a go at each other' scenario, wouldn't you agree :)

I bought the download version of SS 2008 a couple of days ago (I also own SS 2006), and first of all, I'd like to say that the game is really entertaining and fun. However, I too have found it littered with bugs, to the point where I'm wondering if the game has been betatested at all. Also, the 3D performance of the game is rather poor, despite using a video card with an nVidia 7900 GT chip and 512 MB RAM I only get about 22-23 fps at 1024x768, without anti-aliasing turned on! Certain events in the game (such as passing close to another ferry) nearly halt the graphics completely.
Anyway, if the developers need betatesters, I'll be more than happy to participate. I also have a feature request, and that is to add support for anti-aliasing directly in graphic settings of the game.
-
Somebody mentioned in this thread about custom missions. Mine are blank??? whats the score with this, is a patch going to resolve this issue?.
-
I guess custom missions are your own created missions, you can't do that until the mission editor is released. So we all got it blank there..
Hey Parsec, your graphic issues is not a game problem, the problem is your system. You need more ram mister, at least 1GB. I got a Geforce 6800, older than yours, same resolution and AA on. But I also got 2GB of ram and there are no graphic problems. When it comes to AA, you got a nVidia, using your videocard settings usually gives a lot better results then any game settings.
But I agree that the developers could have done a better job when it comes to betatesting, but they have promised several patches. Hopefully we will see the game in top shape within a few months.

Custom Missions are available to download here (http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/board,33.0.html), when the Mission Editor is released, you will be able to create your own ;)
You will need to enter your licence key to access this area :)

My computer has 1 GB RAM, it is my video card that has 512 MB RAM... ;)
Also, my CPU is a P4 running at 3.2 GHz, and I can run games like Call of Duty 2 and Company of Heroes flawlessly and smooth. The problem with (PC) games is that every developer program their 3D in different ways, yielding different performance. So I guess that's something we have to live with.

This seems like a Technical issue, however, we cannot answer Technical questions here. If you need Technical support, please enter your licence key into your forum profile and you will then have access to the Technical Support area.
Most of these problems have already been resolved ;)

jezz guys its always like this with new games there are problems but u gotta admit this version is far better than last one so u can expect the next one to be better ( i hope ) and second of all if the game has mistakes there are patches to come which will fix most of those problems and for the requirements well depends of the engine for the game 3D programs and stuff some games have great graphicks but run slow some run fast and i think ship sim 2008 runs decently well for its evniroment but there will be fixeses in the game speed and it doesn't always matter what PC specs u have u can have the best graphic cards and stuff but problems usualy accure when the disk is full or if you just pack it with folders with lots of small stuff in it on different places so try defragmenting it and use disk cleanup somethimes well that's my opinion ;)

My HDD has about 50 GB of free space... is that enough for you? ;)
Also, please keep in mind that not all of us are newbies here. I've owned PCs since 1988, so rest assured that I know what defragmenting and disk clean-up mean for performance.
We can agree on one thing, though, SS 2008 is a fantastic game with lots of potential, so let's be patient and wait for the upcoming updates/patches... ;D
-
I have to say out of the 56 missions avialable there are
only 6 that i cannot do because of bugs to me Vstep are
the best thing since slice bread was invented and give me
hours of pleasure BUGS or no Bugs i hope they make millions
so they can hir more programers and give us more of what we
all like ::)people asked for more missions theBeta testers listened
and thanks to them :-* I can quite happlly wait for patches
because there is enough play in the game while waiting.
and yes i like everyone else want more.
V.STEP FORE EVER ;D
OOPS looks like sherpa needs fire hoses as well as stern thruster
guess it will come in a PATCH.

Hmm well 50 GB is good but that's not the point u can have only like 15 GB of it full and it works so damn slow u can't even run anything even if u have great PC spec's...i got a 350GB and is full like 150 GB maybe and it works very very slow since i just put stuff on everywhere and i have another one which is smaller but runs faster since i keep it clean and yes u are right some aren't newbies in this stuff i had that in mind no offense anyone ;)

I have to confess to not having read all the items in this thread - it got a bit tedious - so forgive me if this has already been stated.
Almost all program and system developers launch the product before it is fully tested and let the users act as testers. Imagine a department with a dozen or so testers and think how long it would take to fully test for all the bugs. In launching the product before all the bugs have been ironed out the the product has thousands of testers.
The alternative is to have a very long wait for the product. I for one am happy with the sim and am quite prepared to put up with the bugs as long as Vstep iron out the bugs when reported. And please remember guys - a polite reporting of a bug is more likely to be be acted upon than bitching and moaning reports. So come on, guys, let's at least pretend we are all gentlemen (or Spambot)

Last I checked, Titanic was a transatlantic ocean liner. You can run her all you want from Southampton to New York. That run in real time would take roughly 6 days, at which point your graphics card would probably melt. Soooo, they shortened it a little. ???
The cruise liner in SS 2006 was a part of an add on pack, they might release an add on pack for SS 2008, in...2008.
I had to speak with a VP at Cunard to get permission to use a picture of QM2 in a brochure. Imagine the hoops you would have to jump through to build a 3D simulation model. QM2 also has triple bow thrusters, 2 azipods, and 2 standard pods for propulsion. I'm sure the developers don't want to try to tackle the physics of programming something that complicated.

Cruise Ships are very important to this sim…as something for tugs to assist. :)
-
cruise ships are for Spambot, what ship sim really needs is real mens ships like bulk carriers, coasters and inland barges, the work horses of the sea :D
i think i might need a good hard hat to repel the beating that i think i am about to get :D ::) :-\ :'(
-
Cruise ships are fun, elegant, and visually appealing. They add an element of class to the game. 'Twill be a grand day indeed when the ship add-on becomes available.

Here Here!
-
Yes, I think, until we can do more with the ships in and out of port aswell as actually sail them, then visual appeal will take priority.

THIS IS A GREAT GAME, and WILL ONLY BECOME BETTER!
HA! ;D ;D ;D

2. The P&O ferry mission from San Fransisco to Phi Phi Islands: Reach the first waypoint beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, transferred to the Phi Phi environment, and the ferry immediately sinks.
4. Same mission: Twice in a row when I statted the mission the ferry immediately sank. I had to close down the game altogether and restart it again for it to be fixed.
I have never noticed this...
-
It is a bit puzzling why it was released almost prematurely, but I'm relatively happy now with the Patch and Mission Editor installed.
-
Hi Harry
The problem is that- whether we like it or not- publishing deadlines are just not flexible. It is a matter of fact, not an excuse.
So why did Vstep not programme faster? As an intelligent chap, I won't insult your inteligence on that one ;) but yes, some others have actually asked it.
If you consider all that has to be done by the supplier- burn the cd, print the packaging, instructions, even put the cd in the box, then send to various countries and one big point- retailers normally allocate shelf space for new releases and if you miss the deadline...
Failing to publish on time can cause software to fail commercially, or just not get released. I'm sure Vstep wasn't thrilled that they didn't complete it in time and they have had a bit of stick... but they kept to their word and I think the patch is a credit to them.

What kind of idiot would bring back a topic over a year old and say nothing intelligent? If you keep that up, you will be on everyone’s “Ignore listâ€â€”if you don’t get banned first.

Hi Marty.
Quite right. I've deleted both the post before yours (because it was totally pointless) and the response of the poster to your message, since it was also pointless.
Sorry if that makes your message seem odd.
For anyone reading this subsequently, Marty's post was the only one that made sense.

ok then. i was gonna say....this a dang old topic. ::)
