Does anyone have any idea what the system requirements for SS09 are likely to be, I assume they will be greater than SS08?
Need to buy a new PC and want to make sure I buy a suitable one, my present PC will not run SS08 and my laptop only just does!!
Thanks for your help someone!!

How the hell could the minimum system requirements for a software which probably won't be released before 1 year could already be available ?? !!! ::) ::) ::)

Developers must have some idea which way they are going!!

Well, I think you might begin to have such information when the first beta releases are out, and we're very far away from that about SS 09 . Don't even know if developpment has already begun ...
If you plan to buy hardware in order to play SS09, you'd better wait a few months ... Today's hardware will be cheaper, and tomorrow's hardware will be available ...
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe developpment team already knows which computer you should buy (talking about today's hardware ....) to play SS09 smoothly, but I would be very, very suprised if that would be the case !!!!

hi cm
i guess the only advice i can give is buy the best pc you can afford, with respect to processor, ram (that's memory, not what we were doing last nite on phi phi server), graphics card, hard drive.
also, a decent mointor, i have 22" widescreen & 15" for chart area (thinking of upgrading the 15" monitor).

You are right, only bought the laptop 12 months ago and it was adequate for what it was bought for, had never heard of Ship Sim then.
Now have to persuade 'er indoors' that we need a new PC, she only uses it for email and solitaire so can't see the need for a new one!! Same thing with cars really!!

Did you manage displaying 3D view on one monitor, and chart area on the other one ? :o

hi denis
yeah that's what i do.
having the chart on a seperate monitor makes a huge difference.

tell er indoors about the benefits of her having a dedicated laptop for email, general surfing, card games etc.
if u have your own pc, she will never again be disturbed. worth a punt.
also, for ss, it's worth considering a desktop pc if you have the space. much better value, easier to upgrade & can get huge graphics cards now.

Gentlemen,
On the topic: As the release of a new and ambitious simulator is at least six—probably more like 12—months away, the developers should not be asked to speculate on the system requirements.
Although they want the product to be within the capabilities of user’s systems, they also want it to deliver as many of the requested features as possible. This means that they need to consider what the capabilities of available systems may be in 2009.
During the development some difficult decisions may need to be made in balancing the inclusion of features versus the danger of making the system requirements beyond the reach of many users.
It would be irresponsible of them to publish estimates of requirements that might lead people to purchase systems now that would turn out to be inadequate when the product is released.
