So can I mod the game to have more ports or can't i add ports
¨Thanks for your help in advance
-
Hi there,
Welcome to the forum!
I'm afraid you cannot add ports yourself, what comes with the game, is what you can only play, unforunately.
Kind Regards,
Jack.

i think the makers of ship simulator are the only people to add ports
-
Oh,that is a shame, well thank you guys for your answers
-
no problem oh and welcome to the forum

I'm with keijo lol. We are with the biggest Virtual Trucking Company on the web trying to expand our company to further means of transportation such as this, air, and rail.
Just trying to get a feel for how the game works and what you can do with it.
Is it possible to make like...A fake dock...port...Basically an area on the coast thats tall and even the ship could just pull up to?
Or is this game undevelopable by people other than the devlopers?

Yep, no one else can add content to the game unfortunately :(
But then we would have lots of poor quality enviroments and ships for the game, like VS....
-
That really does stink. As for poor quality stuff you just don't download what you don't want on their....hmmm...wonder why this one decided to not have it moddable...this is the only simulator made that won't allow that I think.
Ok thanks guys 8)

Not by a long shot. And anyway they do allow user created content, they just want to work together with the creators and release it officially. There are allready addons in the game that they did not make themselves.
And the environments are quite a lot more complicated to build than VS ports. The tools for that are not in a state that it would be fit for regular players to fiddle around with, I suspect.
VSTEP wants to keep everything that is available in the game up to the same specification and quality. If you pick and choose what you want to download, then players would also get a lot of different things in their game, which would make MP a mess, that's another thing that would happen, as you can only join each other on a server if you have the same environment and ships.
Just a few of my thoughts...

So far as I can see, there only a few simulators that allow users to create their own environments or "players" (e.g. trains, ships, aircraft, warriors etc). The vast majority are not user programmable.
In Ship Simulator, users can and do create missions (which are incredibly variable in quality), radio sounds, horn sounds, vessel skins and ships lighting.
I'm very familiar with environment creation in simulations and the vast majority of people will probably never be able to, or indeed want to, do this. Even fewer will be able to, or have time to, make a really good environment.
There is of course a design group section in this Forum, so it isn't blocked to "outsiders", just well-controlled.

your all fogeting the addon pack that give you a new port
-
But that wasn't a user add-on, it was a Vstep designed harbour (Padstow). A very interesting sea-side harbour.
-
if i am wrong please correct me.. I think the shipyard will offer new ships along with new ports
-
That is the plan indeed, but making those takes A LOT of time, so I think the first ships and enviroment to appear there would be single download versions of the NH content perhaps, for people that don't want the whole pack. That's what I would guess...
I don't think you have to expect a new enviroment every month... It takes months to make one, and then it's just made, not tested and such, which takes a long time too, including fixing problems that arise during this testing.
It's much more labour intensive than most people think. :)

The market has to be there as well. If only a thousand people buy a ship or a harbour, it won't even cover the cost of developer's coffee...
-
Yes, very true indeed, Terry!
-
Never mind the cost of the solid gold wheels on their Porches.
-
Hehe.... wouldn't that make for a very wobbly ride if they floor it a bit too much? :P
-
They'd just get the butler to tell the footman to inform the chauffeur to drive better, wouldn't they?
-
Ah yes, what was I thinking?! ;D
-
The folks at Vstep are in a different league to us mere mortals. ;D
-
I keep forgetting that as they all remained so normal and friendly and don't show any of that behaviour that some developers seem to develop. ;D
-
Ok I appreciate the replies. Hopefully we will be able to figure something out as this seems like a great project that we would not want to mess up.
Thanks guys.

at £4.99 each it would be cheaper to buy the addon pack them by 3 or more ships

This topic is about 18 months old, and your post is not on topic. There are many places to suggest ports, but this is not one of them.
-
this topic is well over a year old, didn't you see the message stating that while you were posting, and as said before you can't add your own ports, vstep is busy with the next version of ship sim and you're simply not on topic dangit mvsmith you beat me
