I had completely forgotten about this (I was just a nipper then). That first image shows the immensity of the ship, doesn't it?

WOW. That looks Huge near land. My dad was linked to the Navy in the late 90s and worked on the HMS Somerset Friget, they were assisted by the Americans in the USS Enterprise, and stood on the Bridge of the Somerset, you couldn't see the deck of Enterprise 400m away - i don't know how big that is though, but i'm sure it's big!

She was huge, the largest and last British Battleship. I was standing just under the Customs Watch Tower, with the square white roof, just by the bow, linked by a walkway to the land.
There is more about her on the link above and you can always Google as well. She was one of my best memories of Portsmouth Harbour as a youngster, as she used to spend much of her time moored alongside South Railway Jetty in HM Dockyard.
