As soon as I have finished my electrical ship in Sketch up, I will do a the same ship in Gmax or a big factory trawler.
The decision is up to you.
The picture is of an ugly rusten russian trawler, but it will not look like that one
-
Even though i voted for the Cruise Ship, i've changed my mind - a big Trawler like that russian one would be nice - the front of the russian trawler you showed us looks like the Elbe to me
-
I think I'll just make them both, but I'll model the one who get's most votes first
-
Well it looks like most people like the trawler, so that's what I'm going to make, it will be like or maybe one of the trawlers in Faroe Island, I'll show you an example
-
I'll suggest against the vessel you posted on the top because it's textures would be very had to do. :P
-
you meen the russian one? the trawler will be more like the last pic but not the same
-
Ya, Ok that's good... I like that one better anyway. ;)

Where is a Gmax tutorial?
I got it, but don't know how to use it

You got it but you don't know how to use it?
You have a Help section on the menu line.
You need to start reading and use the Help section if you want to know how to use it, just the same way as you do to know how to use a remote control for your television...
If you cannot do that you will NEVER understand how to use Gmax. Got it?
I don't want to write a long post about this but why the *** doesn't people read the owners manual before they start to use stuff? :D ;D

Mohahaha...yeah right!
Did you download gmax12_help.exe and gmax12_turorials.exe from this site http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax (http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax). Because if you didn't that explains your problem sir! :P
-
Thanks a ton! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
While your there "Turbo Squid" Also makes a bunch of tools for us modelers too, And also it has just about the coolest name in the whole world. ;D

I installed the help and tutorial files
I restarted my pc
I start up Gmax
I go to Help>Tutorials
I get the hour glass mouse icon for less than half a second
And nothing happens
Did I miss something?

Yeah...you did! :D
Let's say that I got a disk on station D. Then my address to gmax at this station will be D:\gmax.
Both installation dialogs ask you to unzip the files. In this case I must click the browse button to D:\gmax and select the folder "gmax". Then in this example it will work.
So you need to find out what station and location on your PC where you installed Gmax. The simple way to do this is to run Gmax, at the menu line: Customize > Preferences > Configure Paths.... There you will find out where Gmax is installed at your PC. Then after you run these exe files again and makes the installer to install the content at the right place. ;)
And BTW: You can go directly to the folder D:\gmax\Help and click the file "gmax" with the yellow question icon to open the help document.
-
Do you got Gmax program.
(hows it going with your DFDS ship you modelling= ;D)
-
I put both downloads into gmax's help folder and STILL nothing

You unzip the files to that location. You don't have to save the exe-files to the location. How hard can it be? :P
-
Very if you're as clueless as I am :'(
-
Can anyone of the "computer scientists" here help us? Terry...where the * are you? :D
-
I can unzip files, but where do I put them? The files are currently unzipped in the Help Folder
but they don't work there
-
Here is my Help folder in D:\gmax\Help :)
-
So the files I downloaded are useless?

So the files I downloaded are useless?
Have you tried to click on them and see what happens? (I mean run the files..) ;)
Moderator can split this topic if it gets to much Gmax conversation here...
-
I found the tutorials
and the "getting started"section explained
thanks, guys ;)
-
:) excuse me, but i just tried doing all of that stuff to get tutorials, but i didn't get any, can somebody please help me out?
-
You need to dig through your computer to find them
And the files that go with the tutorials must be downloaded
Now for a problem I have: I am trying to make a logo 3D, but there is a line that is causing trouble in the perspective view point, but I can't delete it because it doesn't show up in any other view point!
You can see what I mean by looking in the Front vs Perspective view points in the attached file. How do I delete that line?
-
well, i guess you can't do much about it. if it does'nt show up in any other view, it probably won't effect you very much, so all i have to suggest is to forget about it and continue with your logo. when it is finished, please post it i would like to see it!

You got Redo and Undo functions. Go back a few steps or load a previously saved copy. I recommend to make several copies because Gmax have maybe only 10 undo/redo possibilities. So its better to make "Save1, save2, save3...save8" and you can go back without re-starting the whole project. :)
I'm not sure what is not welded correctly since the image is too small for me...

It WILL make a difference because I hope to take screen shots, crop them out, and use them as frames for an animated GIF, meaning any imperfections in the Perspective view port will show up in the finished project.
As for what logo I am trying to make, I am trying to make the logo for this series of YouTube videos called WTF Pokémon. The first episode is here:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=zhFsIkzs-jo (http://youtube.com/watch?v=zhFsIkzs-jo)
The series is from the Smash Boards (the world's largest and most well known forums for the Super Smash Bros. series of Nintendo video games) into a 3D spinning logo.
Also, I have it saved from before the problem arized, BUT THERE IS NO WAY TO GET RID OF IT!
Sorry for the caps lock, but I'm in a bit of a panic right now. I saved it once then came back to it and was greeted by this problem.
