-
How on earth were you allowed to do that?! Do you drive trains for a living?
-
Well maybe he drove it in on of the many back seats :)
-
were you piloting the train or did you just sit in it?
-
NoNoNo i dont drive trains for living i asked the enginer and he let me in! For living i work on the carnival victory as the helmsman

So you just watched someone else driving the train. Cool. In Ireland you're not aloud to do that anymore. :'(

How could you drive a train?
-
it could be a open day or one of them days out things you can buy
-
I've really piloted a train before,
I did the whole thing, the real engineer didn't need to do any thing! :D
It had about 75 passengers on a scenic railroad tour in lower Connecticut valley, It was one of the trains on the Old Colony Newport Line, The loco was an original GE-45 from the early 1900's.
I had so much fun in the cab I didn't sit in my real seat in one of the cars for more than a second.
-
realy cool
-
Hehe sounds fun
-
BART has an electric third rail and it goes fast like 98 miles per hour and it goes under the bay bridge in a tunnel that goes under the water
-
I was more than fun!!! ;D
-
Thats not the only train i drove i drove 2 others
1.Amtrak California
2.Genesis

How could you drive a train?
uncle knows someone who works at a railyard and we set up a day I could drive one of CSX's biggest locomotives, the huge ACC4400. I drove a few hundred yards.

Very nice, i love the old steam trains like the one below, there again i suppose i'm a very traditional person, thats why. I mean i'm Irish, i play the accordion, i love ships (captain pugwash music comes on) and i like anything to do with steam power and mechanisms. I suppose i've been brought up in that environment, so thats why. Anyway, here's that picture:

This is the one I was on last Friday, more like Jack's sort of train I think!!
-
Those old steamers are much more beutyful, but I would prefer to be on a new one
-
Every year I go to ride this beautiful "American Baldwin consolidation 2-8-2 steam locomotive"
Next year I get to drive it! ;D It's all been set up. ;D
Can you tell I'm really happy. ;D ;D ;D
-
do you have license for that thing
-
Nope. ;D
They're going to send me some manuals to read before I do it though. ;)
-
this is the engine i drove. very powerful. i drove two of them in a line of four engines. it was awsome. i couldn't go too fast as we were in the yard.

how do you manage to get to drive those trains, I thought they had very strong rules about trains
-
That looks more like an SD90-Mac loco. :-\ I'll trust you though.
That has upwards of 4,000 hp if I'm right about the type. ;D
-

where do you see one of those here in MA? i've only seen the SD40-2, AC4400, GP38, and shockingly, a Union Pacific Dash-9. it came into the CSX yard while two other trains were stopped right outside. it was cool. i saw my first real UP train then.
-
I saw my first UP and SP locomotives in Arizona when I was on vacation. :)
-
I was jumping up and down with joy when I saw them... But my parents didn't seem to get it. :-\

Yes leaving on the 5th. I got some great video of the plane landing, and tubing behind the boat. But the hotel internet is SOOOOOO slow. >:( And yet I still have to pay $40 for this **** internet.
Although I did buy a super cool fingerprint reader from the Spy Museum, no more passwords. :D

Relax Man. Take it easy.
well. is american trains nice inside?
-
very nice amtrak california has flat screen tvs and a snack bar and a plug for labtops
-
Well the New Jersey and D.C. like were rough, the rest was smooth. We were upgraded to buisness class so we got power outlets and confy seats. Even though the power for the lights and everything went out like every 10 minutes. Not sure what, we weren't even switching to another track or anything... But it was cool, first time on a train. :)
-
Nothing beats the Amtrak 165mph Acela from Boston to Washington,
Four outlets under the table that every seat has.

That is my seat I had a while ago
It also has a bar, snacks, coffee lounge, sit down dinner, tilting cars, noise canceling interiors. ;D

The acella only gets there an hour early (we actually got there before it because it was delayed) but costs a couple extra hundred bucks. But I would rather be seen on that sleek train then our ugly thing.
-
Personally I don't think the commuter train is ugly but, I'd also rather get there with the ultimate comfort than the crammed commuter cars. ;D
