Hello,
I just downloaded Ship 08, but when it runs, it is sloooooooooww and it locks up. Where can I find the basic minimums required to run this?? I am not a computer "geek" so please make the answers simple as in "computer idiot."
We have an "E" Machine with AMD Atholon 64 x 2 processor 2.3 gig
RAM 1 meg DDR2 ( I know this could be part of my problem??)
220 Gig HD with 155 free
Got it for my son and he's a little anxious to get this working.
Thanks for any help or advice,
Bob and Brett

We went to the home page and found the min requirements. It wants 2 meg RAM with Vista, and we only have 1. We will add at least another meg. Any other advice on what is needed to run this quicker or better would be appreciated.
Thanks again,
Brett

i think the ram should sove the problem but if it needs anything else i'm sure the mods will be happy to help

Hi Brett.
If you need any help once you've added the RAM, go to the Technical Support section. There are some guides there on how to configure Vista to ge the most out of it.

I know from personal experiance that even once you have the right hardware in your computer you will also need a Very high-end Graphics card, I recommend the NVidia GeForce 8800.
All other computer geeks out there don't go and take me down I know that a graphics card is a piece of hardware.
-
you don't need a very high end graphics card :P I ran Ship sim on a GeForce 6200SE. Now that I have my laptop with a GeForce 8400M GS i don't use the older computer for ship sim. It ran pretty good for SS06 and SS08. ;)

In support of the Lord of the Llamas, I have to say that using a GT8600 or better still an GT8800GTX does provide stunning results.
As you say, the game will work with lesser cards, but it becomes wonderful with better crads.
With current prices, you can get an 8800 card for around £45 in the UK.

I found an 8500GTwith 1GB video ram. It compares favorably with my 8800. To get the full benefit from either card, and the exceptional graphics in SS, you need to run on a wide flat-panel at 1920 X 1200.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for all the advice. Terry Russell, thanks for all the links, we will read them all and get what we need to make the computer run the game better.
Thanks again,

Hi Paul.
Guess who just came last in the Ram & Run Tournament? .... Sound of Paul running off to check.
OK, now you're back, this is NOT a technical support question really. Please don't tell me how to do my job. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry (Terry goes green, expands to an enormous size and says "Phew, must keep off the jalopenias!") :P
