well then I think I'm going to download it.

well then I think I'm going to download it.
and. i did got light on the day. but it seems to be bug
-
If you download software which is for specific hardware that you don't have, why on earth would you expect it to work? ::)
Saying it is a bug is unfair to the developers. The only bug is in your actions. ???
And to say that the sound is better is not right either.
-
good I haven't downloaded it

a bug that the light. but it was fixed for me in v.1.4.1 ambx. even when i not have the system :D

Too funny.. just opened up the forum, hit the anouncement and wondered what amBX was anyways...
so boys... GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND.
Pretty neat system, i knew there was ambilight before on HDTV's that Philips made, but now they evolved it a bit further, neat stuff for sure.
Downloading the patch without the hardware.... would indeed be silly.
(So basically that anouncement has a commercial hint to it, hope the VSTEP-/shipsimforum-guys get some extra funds for promoting sayd system ;) )
Regards,
Frank

Sure, i have downloaded the patch, and there are no issues, problems or anything wrong ;D.Something is worrying me dough, i have played SS08 for a long time and i am finding it a bit hard to notice the new sound improvements ???.Could someone give me roughly what is new, sorry i just get a little confused sometimes.
-
there are no sound improvement, if you don't have the system there is no point in downloading the patch

i did downloaded the patch, i have the system, and it works fine, but i was not sure about the improved things that it was said to have and ... and also the game use to be version 1.4.2 but now it went down to 1.4.1, is that a bad thing or good thing?
-
Do you mean the radio sounds? They might be the new things you are talking about.
Bad probably.

Neither the horn sounds nor the radio patch will affect the version number. they have absolutely no effect on the workings of the game. Trust me, that's the way I designed them!
When you say that it is now V1.4.1, where are you seeing that? On the bottom left of the opening screen when you start Ship Simualtor?

its standing. 1.4.1 Ambx
Build 1037
-
Sorry, my friend, I don't understand where you see this number.
When you start ship simulator, what number does it show in the opening menu?
Sorry if I'm being daft.
-
Terry, I think the Ambx download will reset the version number to 1.4.1 because that was the version number when the Ambx download was made. I would guess that Ambx might change the sound files to be compatible with the system.
Third Mate says he has “the systemâ€. Does he mean the Ambx hardware? If so, then installing the 1.4.2 patch is probably not a good idea.
Marty
-
Hi Marty.
I was guessing that was what he was finding, but you know me. I like certainty.
So, as he has installed a 1.4.1 version on the top of 1.4.2, inevitably, some files won't get overwritten by the installer, because they are more recent. So the system could be a mixture of 1.4.1 and 1.4.2.
Perhaps.... Something to watch out for though.
Fortunately Captain Best says he has no problems, just concerned about it showing as 1.4.1. "Leave well alone" is probably the (captain) best thing .

One problem in mixing different derivatives such as Ambx or Elbe & Furie is that the latest file in 1.4.2, say, might replace on older but correct file for one of the derivatives.

So pretty much, i have downloaded the amBX patch, and have applied it.BEfore that my ship sim version said to be 1.4.2.But after i have installed the patch it said to be 1.4.1.It has no errors, and it does not crash, but should i risk doing anything else to it like applying 1.4.2 patch (which may get rid of the amBX inprovments)? SO technically it meant to go from 1.4.2 to 1.4.3 or a higher number. Also, the game has recognized the patch because in 1.4.2 the video intro was stretched across the screen and now that movie it is in the middle of the screen and it has the amBX movie to at the same size.

Oh i see what you mean, gee now i get it.So when you mean, "if you have hardware" it will sound better, do you mean like a good graphics card, good sound card etc.

Hi chaps.
It's not so much having a "good" card, more having one that knows what to do with the amBX signals. If your card isn't amBX equipped, they never get sent by Windows in the firstplace.
Similalry if you have the correct hardware, your chair can rock, the wheel will spin or resist you as you turn it, the fans can blow wind in your face, the arc lamps can make lightning flashes... and so on. Without such hardware, nothing will happen.
-
It got up to 104 F here in the Willamette Valley yesterday. Will amBX drive a pair of 24-inch floor fans?
Instead of the wrist rumbler—which probably won’t do my carpal tunnels a lot of good—can it drive a proper butt-Kicker?
-
Terry and Marty
The problem wit us we begin to be old for that new stuff, it was fun a bit, but my kid has taken it over LOL maybe a can borrow it 8) and expensive are it to :P ;)

I suspect it might drive the relays to power the actuators to operate those fans. Radio Shack do an amBX compatible butt kicker, but you do need to supply your own butt of course.
But why do you want to kick your water butt?

When the patch was released and it said something about the improvements i though VSTEP has like made the wind blowing noise louder so we can hear it, spectacular lightning display and new more realistic sounds, beautifully sunset reflecting on your screen, rain drops on your window (allot or little depending on how much rain is falling), and a bit more realistic rain.
Storm, rain, rough seas and loud wind!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ow4F8s-ZNvk -SH3 weather, now this would be perfect storm effects for SS08, you can actually feel like you are in a storm.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiGnCWTPbgA, from the sides on the ship as it speeds on ahead
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztcP0-vUFiU&feature=related, basic rain falling on the window screen, that would lead it to the wind shield wipers to work.
Sunsets, more puffy clouds(dark, white or black).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=el2M2TtAjDs&feature=related, notice the reflection.

No, that's not how it works.
If you have the appropriate hardware, then this patch will enable Ship Simulator to drive it. But without the special fans, actuated chairs, ejector seat, environmental helmets, lightning generators and so on, you will see no effects whatsoever. It will not make any difference to "normal" systems, I believe.
In fact, as your system will be using a driver that does nothing, if it is loaded by Windoze you may actually end up with a slight loss of performance (you'll may not notice, but every tick counts).

If you have installed a driver, turning it off usually just stops it from doing anything. It still gets loaded and it still uses some resoucres while it tells the operating system that it has finished doing nothing, over and over again.

I know.
That doesn't change what I just said.
