How do you load cargo containers onto a cargo ship?
Thanks,
Kona

Well with your speed situation, how fast does it say you are going?
As for how to load containers, you can pause the game, go to settings and controlls. You will have to select the crane controlls and read that ;).
-
Well, seems to be fine in the solent, must of just been when i was in a port. Im going to order a stick of ram, and sail the solent for now, explore ships.
-
These things can contribute to lag:
Enviornment- The bigger the enviornment, the bigger the lag.
Objects- The more objects that are in an inviornment, the more your video card has to read, thus, the harder it will be working.
Weather- Fog and rain will make the game laggy.
-
Yeah, have everything down all the way, my computer has always been good at handeling good graphics, like Oblivion or GuildWars, other MMOs too. I think a ram stick will help.
-
It might, how much ram do you have now?
-
1900.
How do i access cargo cranes?
-
To access the cranes, select the crane ;D.
-
How?
Sorry
-
Wait, are you free raoming, or doing a mission?
-
free roaming, Is there a way in free roam, or what mission?
-
Alright, that is why you cannont access the crane controlls, you need to be doing a mission. Might I suggest the container loading mission? It is a simple mission. All you have to do is load 4 containers onto the vermaas ;).
-
Thanks ; )
Any other ways how to, like, loading a small cargo ship (forgot the name..) and sailing somewere with it? Can that be done with mission creator?

There is only one cargo ship (vermaas) but yes there is a mission that does that already.

Later on in the SS series I think they might add the old ships from SS06 to SS08. I would like my small container ship/barge back. ;)

Hi Kona,
You should download two PDF documents from here:
http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,2886.0.html
Info gives detailed information on operating the container crane, and other things.
The Mission Editor Tutorial will tell you how to make missions using the crane to load Vermaas.
Even if you don’t want to make your own missions, the tutorial explains how the crane works.
The crane only loads containers on Vermaas or Sherpa. It cannot unload them.
You cannot have the crane in free roam or in multi-player.
In missions, you can load one Vermaas and then sail her somewhere else.

Yes, I do wish I could drive that little cargo ship again ;D. Believe it or not, my dad was the driver of that very ship.

Kona,
Here is how you operate the container crane in missions that use it:
In the upper left corner are two icons, one for the crane and one for Vermass. Click the crane.
You can switch between various views by using the number keys above the main keyboard:
1 Is a view outside the crane and orbits the crane cab as it would a ship.
2 Is the cab view, and can look straight down at the spreader (the thing that grabs the container),
3 Is the same as two because the arrow keys control the crane and are not available for walkabout.
4 Is another exterior view that orbits the dock containers.
5 Stays centered on the hoisting cable and rotates around it while over the dock.
By switching among these views, you should be able to see what you’re doing.
As for knowing what you’re doing…
The Page Up key raises the spreader.
The Page Down key lowers the spreader—right through the ground.
The Up & Down arrow keys move the crane cab toward the ship.
The Left & Right arrow keys move the entire crane along the dock.
The Home key causes the spreader to grab the container.
The insert key raises and lowers the jib—the thing that sticks out over the ship. Leave it down while loading.
You can see this list from in the sim by clicking the wrench in the lower right corner and selecting Crane controls from the drop-down list.
Use cab view looking straight down, and lower the spreader onto a dock container with Page Down.
Position it carefully with the arrow keys. When it is centered on the container, press the Home key.
A green light on the spreader tells you when it has the container.
Raise the container just high enough to clear the containers on the ship, and then move toward the ship.
A green arrow points down at the place for the container, Lower the container into the space and then press the Home key to release the spreader.
The rest is skill acquired from practice.
It’s just a sim! You won’t break anything.
Oh yeah, one other thing: Raise the jib when you are done. The Vermaas’s Master will be unhappy if he loses his masthead light.

Thanks everyone,
And mvsmith,
