I just purchased Ship Sim on eBay. The version that came looks like it's Russian. Using the utility downloaded from here, I got my key code. I typed it into my profile but it says it's already in use here. And, updating it to version 1.42 (it's version 1.0), it says that the key is invalid.
Any thoughts?

Hiya,
The person you bought it from on Ebay still has the license key registered in their profile.
Send a message to the person(seller) asking to unregister it in their profile ;)
Failing that, try sending a message to a Global Moderator ;)

Hiya guys :)
There was a similar topic created a while ago:

Maybe similar to what's happened here? :-\
Regards.

Yep. That's what it appears. This guy has several copies of the same software for sale. In reading further, I see he says "this game may not work for online play", which tells me they all have the same illegal key.
Caveat emptor!
Thanks for your help.

I'm sorry to hear that, there are some really unscrupulous people out there, makes me so >:(
I would get in touch with ebay, and try to get your money back. After all, you do have rights :)
Hope you get it sorted soon :)
Regards.

I sent him an email and he replied that it is a legal copy, but that local merchants will say it isn't so that they can sell software. Doesn't make sense.
I filed a complaint with paypal and he issued me a refund in under 2 minutes. Well, at least I got that back, but this burns me.
The link to the auction is below, in case anyone is interested. I should have read it more closely and suspected something when he said that it wouldn't work online. >:(

Thanks for your help. I'll buy a legal version. I have the 2006 with add-on, and it's a wonderful simulation!

Thanks aren't necessary, really. As Jack says, it's good to know that you got your money back :)
For anyone who hasn't heard this, it's something you may want to take note of :)
I heard a rumour that some ebay sellers, get their friends to make purchases, knowing full well that they will get their money back, and then they leave feedback. So don't always trust what you see ;)
Regards.
Carl.
P.S. That is my own personal statement, and not an official VSTEP statement :)

I can confirm that for you Carl that is correct. Also another thing they do at auctions on ebay is that they get their friends to bid on the product making the price go higher, and if they are lucky, the genuine bidder will put a high price in. Theres an awful lot to watch out for on ebay, although me and my family have been lucky so far with purchases.

Thankfully, I avoid all auction sites, never want to have my fingers burned :)

never buy games like this on ebay, just buy it new. then you know there has nothing happened before ;)
