Hiya all :)
It's finally complete ;D
I am always critical of my own movies, but I'll leave you to decide if you like it (or not) ;)

Same from me carl very good you did great i think terry will like it to
-
Thanks everyone, seriously ;D
I wasn't expecting these reactions in all honesty, I wanted to do so much more with the movie, but there were unfortunate complications. I thought it could've been much better personally :-[
I wanted a full Chat Box capture, but the conversion process for uploading to YouTube caused it to be too blurred to see properly ::)
For those who are interested in this kind of thing (movie making), I've attached a screenshot of how it all looked, just before export and upload ;)
If your're filming in the summer, can I be in?
If/when I start a new MP movie, you are more than welcome to become involved, as is everyone ;D
Regards.
DJM/Carl.

Carl
That was great, love the music too!! As you say it is a pity that the chatroom and name tags are blurred on YouTube.
Mike

Thanks Mike ;D
I spend ages choosing the music for all my movies, it's one of the most important factors. If the music sounds 'off' the movie usually looks bad (I think so anyway ;)).

TJK

Thanks TJK ;D
I think my videos need more work before they could ever be used for promotional purposes ;)
I wouldn't charge Vstep though. They've done so much for me, I would be happy to do it for free. I've been given the great honour and privilege of helping out on the forum here, plus beta testing, allowing me to play a small part in development of our wonderful game ;D
I like making these movies purely as a 'fan', if they help in promoting Ship Simulator, that's a bonus ;)

I don't know about "EXPERT" film maker, I think who ever made real movies is probably 100x more talented. But for what he does he sure is good. 5 out of 5 stars.
*cough* new avvy
-
I couldn't agree more with your comment about me not being an "EXPERT" film maker, I'm not......far from it. I'm just an average guy who likes to 'try' and entertain others ;)
Thanks for the 5-star rating ;D
*cough* I can't see what your avvy is ::) :-[
-
Excellent stuff DJM, very entertaining movie. A good showcase for Shipsim..
Very good music score too.. ;D
edit: absolutely, big compliments also to Terry, and all others involved.. ;)
-
Thanks saltydog ;D
I would like to make something known about this movie:
I couldn't have done it without other members really getting involved with the production, I don't deserve ALL the credit for this movie ;)

If you were an expert I would see your name as
Some Movie Here Like Indiana Jones Maybe?
Director: DJM
this is what my avvy is.
-
Hmm......
What about "Ship Simulator Ownz"? ;D
Now I can see what your avvy is, thanks ;)

What about "Ship Simulator Ownz"? ;D
Ship Sim doesn't own...
IT PWNS!
-
it's great because you are willing to let anyone be involved, it' not often you get to be featured in a YouTube video, shipsim or not. I will love to help you in any videos in the future. It was a pleasure being featured in it and i am so greatful you were kind enough to allow us to feature in it.
Keep up the brilliant videos (I also rated 5 on the normal SS2006 and SS2008 vids ;) )

Absolutely great DJM :) ;D
great to watch that is :)
And well done to terry for extra footage :)
-
yes, don't forget Terry, he did great too ;D
Which was his footage in the video?
-
nice nice nice ;D ;D ;D
-
well done a great video and even better cause im in it :o
Well done love it
-
Very nice video. i love it ;D
-
Thanks guys ;D
I should do more of these, especially if they are this popular :D
Terry's footage is easily recognisable.......he uses a higher resolution than I do, and you may also notice it if look for the little mouse cursor. My mouse cursor option is disabled in Fraps ;)
-
LOL :D
thought terry was supposed to be a computer genious :P :D ::) (just kidding terry ;) )
Nice Vid...im criticle of my own stuff as well...anything for my business before it gets shipped out to a client gets edited....re-edited and re-re-edited before im happy with it....then once a client has the video i'll re-edit it another 3 or 4 times then if they come back to me and say (which they have) "I dont like this now" i can give them the re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-edit for nothing.
-
Thanks ;D
I can relate to that (personally, not professionally........yet ;))
I must rework my timeline at least 20-30 times, then do some more.....etc. etc.
Only then will I be "ok" with it ;D
Even after I've done all that, I think "hmm.....I don't like that bit" :D
-
Very nice movie, excellent work! It's only a pity that the conversion to YouTube causes a so huge degradation of movie quality...

How do you get such high quality videos from tv and computer? I've been wondering for quite a while, now....

Use a screen recorder?
-
What would be one on a computer? or a tv one that can be translated onto a computer?

fraps?

Hm... ok. I didn't know how. Thanks! ;)

Greetings Carl,
Well, about the brightness of the video you are correct, however i think it's more a youtube thing, because if you play the video, before you putted it on youtube,i'm sure it must has been alot brighter.
For the rest, this video is great,it give a nice impression of what you can do with the sim,and what you can expect.
The music is also,great.
You know what you are doing, with making video's.

Mauro
Thanks ;D
The biggest problem with the quality of movies that you upload is, you convert them into a suitable size for uploading to YT first, then they get converted again (to Flash Video). Each of these conversions causes a loss in quality. The original DVD movie that I have here, is superb quality, but it's too big to upload, and it would also be converted to Flash Video ::)

If you want really high quality videos, most of it depends on the software you use. A cheap (or free) software package won't always give you that quality because they sometimes use older codecs. It's lke anything, "you get what you pay for" ;)
For anyone who's interested, I use the following packages:
Game Capture: Fraps - www.fraps.com
DJM/RWP Intro: Magix Movies on CD & DVD - http://www.magix.com/uk/movies-on-cd-dvd/
Main Movie: Serif MoviePlus 5 - http://www.serif.com/movieplus/movieplus5/index.asp
I also have all the extra's for MoviePlus, this makes the package so much more versatile for movie making ;)

Despite how it may look. I knew absolutely nothing about digital movie editing when I first started, it all comes from practice and hard work. If you'd seen some of my first efforts, you would be saying "he'll never do anything decent, they're rubbish" ;D
The interest I had in this kind of thing, really kept me 'plugging away' until I knew enough to put something relatively ok together :)
Regards.
