Hi,
did someone manage to change the water depth in Portsmouth and allow the Pride to navigate to the real terminal location ?
Cheers,
Yann

It's not a problem of the water depth. There is an invisible border between Old Portsmouth/Gosport and Portsmouth. VSTEP didn`t realized that part of Portsmouth because of the much detailed Navy fascilities, but maybe they will add this area later.
Cheers

thanks,
but it's possible to sail with smaller boats in the old Portsmouth.
Only bigger boats can't navigate the area.
Let me know

Well, I have put the PRIDE OF ROTTERDAM within the mission editor next to the P&O terminal (as you may see on the charts, it`s quite not realized!), I was able to sail her out of the harbour area there, but she "stranded" at the above mentioned border line...

I agree,

How do you start a freeroam mission at a position you wish ?
Yann
-
...yeah i thought mission editing wasn't available yet

That's impossible, unfortunately. The start/spawn points are pre-selected by VSTEP.

then why did u say u put the P&O in the mission editor?
-
Because Bottman has the mission editor!

hmmph

;D That's how we all feel :P

So am I correct in saying that the Isle of White Ferry does not actually start at the correct real-world location at Portsmouth?
Thanks

Well, we don´t have the "Isle of Wight" ferry. It's Red Funnel, and they starting right there, where you find their terminal in Southampton or Cowes respectively. The Wight-Link ferries indeed running from Portmouth and there is no terminal implementet within the sim. But it could later, same as the enlarged environment in Rotterdam/Europoort for the PRIDE OF ROTTERDAM.

Bottman,
OK understood - thanks for your reply.

I could nip out and take any required images of Portsmouth and area if needed?
Can I ask, is the spinnaker tower or HMS Warrior in the scenery?
Just wondering,
Sky

Spinnaker? Yepp!
HMS Warrior? Nope!!!
Guess, VSTEP has a lot of pics from Portmouth and around...

Hello Bottman
One of the missions is from Ryde pier (rather impressive) to Portsmouth. That one is a Wightlink route, not red funnel. The Portsmouth end is a bit further up by the railway station (don't know whether modelled or not). The Portsmouth location is actually for the Fishbourne - Portsmouth car ferry. And the mooring point was too far round the mooring pond- it is actually just one (right) turn off the main harbour mouth)
www.harboureye.co.uk looks right at it.
Have to say that after PoR that Red Jet is my favourite boat.

Hi Stu,
you are correct! I know it, of course, but it's not a mission from me :-\ and my bug report according to that was ignored. And, we still don't have any Wight-Link ferry, that's why we have to use the competitors vessels from Red Funnel. Maybe that's the reason, why we have to call wrong piers/berthes with the ferry..?
Cheers

maybe we shuid have the wightlink ferry , then you could have hovertravel red funnel and wighlink in the same game

Hi Bottman, please don't take it as criticism anyway. I think it was good just to show off Ryde pier. Just kicking the computer when I smacked red jet against the harbour trying to manouver round. ;)

I have one question, how many P&O terminals is it in the hole game? And where are they?
Martin
-
Hi Moodsi,
the one and only is situated in Rotterdam/Europoort (Beneluxhaven) - we couldn't reach the bassin with the P&O terminals in Portsmouth, because the usable environment ends between Gosport and (Old-) Portsmouth. Well, you may use the competitors terminal at the Hook van Holland - if STENA allows ;) ;)
Cheers

okay=) thanks=)

Spinnaker but no Warrior? That don't really make much sense. I mean, the Warrior's like 800feet from the tower. What about the rest of the historic dockyard. I.e, the war ships, mary rose hall, Naval school or Victory?
p.s- 12 days till I get the game! Cant wait, especially now I've actually been on a Red funnel ship I cant wait to drive it myself! :)
Thanks, Sky

I've been in/out/around Pompey a lot this last year or so. Remember that only the outer harbour is really modelled as they are using the wightlink car terminal as the destination for the red funnel cat.
Nothing goes up the estuary any further in the game.
The row of low, white buildings on the eastern shore does have a good resemblance though, however, I think Rotterdam and Marseille (the only ports I've really used) are in greater detail.

Can I suggest a modification to the car ferry 'Red Thingy' with VS propulsion units. I find that only the walk around view and a step or two to the side lets me see all the direction and thrust meters as well as the controls. All these are necessary to view in order to sail properly; so I would like to see special 'pop up' controls for this ship that include direction indicators (and a reminder which VS unit is forward and which one aft.

Do you have to post this in every thread? Put it in 'feature requests and suggestions' and be done with it. :)

There's a thread related to red eagle here

Talks of some of the issues about it.

Okay - so as far as I understand, Portsmouth Harbour in the sim has an 'electronic bar' or shallow at the entrance but it could be opened up in the future, and in any case if we can get large ships past this barrier they will float properly further in.
I did notice though that the electronic chart shows 3 meters or less once beyond 'The Point' (harbour entrance). If it helps VSTEP I found this chart online. it not only shows the channels (often 10 meters plus) and mudflats, but also the shape of the marinas etc.
I was there last week and took the Wightlink yellow catamaran which goes from the Rail station just north of the spinnaker tower to Ryde pier. Coming home later we went to Fishbourne to get the double ended VS car/ foot ferry and this docked just south of gunwharf. By the way that little horseshoe shaped dock must be deeper than this chart shows as the ferries are much the same as the Red Eagle - and also there are fishing boats plus fin-keel yachts in there.
It strikes me that it would not be too hard to offer a repaint of the Red Eagle as Wightlink, put a version of the three-master in as the Warrior (and maybe Victory too) and some marinas. that way we would get (for minimum effort) a splendid extra bit. Incidentally I would also like to see an extension to the area such that both east and west 'ends' of the Isle of Wight are sailable. It is a brilliant sim though and all credit to them.
-
I'm with you on that, Steve. 100%. For me, the addition of Portsmouth would be a major boost (my favourite commercial port!). Except the repaint of the Red Eagle into Whitlelink colours- I think that might upset Red Funnel a wee bit.
Steve, can I ask the URL of the navi chart you found online, please?
Stu
-
Sorry to say I don't still have the url but I googled for Portsmouth Charts and this was I think Pilotage for Portsmouth Harbour or The small ship channel info. It was given free to illustrate the correct path for harbour traffic.
As for the repaint what I meant was Wightlink colours as well as Red Funnel. I.E. An extra ship. by the way I got the impression that the Wightlink ones were older and more worn. Two of them had the bridge nearer one end and were therefore sailed as if there was a definite bow and stern (although they would of course sail just as well either way). The third was more like the Red Funnel ones. In addition their 'Fastcat' boats are yellow and smaller than the Red Wotsit.
This is a great sim anyhow. My favourite part is to dock the 'Pride' as neatly as the real thing with careful differential thrust, rudder and bow thruster. Can't get enough of that! It is on a par with landing a big aeroplane on a short runway in the Flightsims.
-
I've already tried that in google. The best I've come up with is www.qhmportsmouth.com but the chart isn't so clear.
Must have a look at a chart next time I'm in Pompey- I'm as far from the coast as you can get here! In fact the above site is really quite interesting and worth a look.
Vstep won't add a ship unless the owners agree in writing (both courtesy and legal) and I suspect Red Funnel own the design rights to the Eagle- so they may not be happy about their ship appearing in Wightlink colours. Likewise, Wightlink would probably not agree either (unless they offered to pay to get one of their own ships in the sim in their colours- I would if I were their M.D.)

there are 4 ferries with the bridge at one end and the 5th is the largest with thhe bridge in the middle
the fastcats are more or less the same length, but they carry more people
