Hello all!
I have recently decided to take pictures or address the faults i have found on some of the ships so that maybe they can be resolved by a patch etc., my first one is the Northern Star as i sail it every day and know it well i have found some faults, some most of you probably haven't noticed.
Anyway, lets get down to buisness.
(pictures are displayed below to show the faults stated below, they should be in order. Also i will post the rest of the pictures underneath as i cannot fit them all onto the topic.)
Fault 1. The Cabin wall on the starboard side has a slit all the way down the side, where it just dosen't meet the wall.
Fault 2. Imagine you are going down the ladders, on your right theres the wall that stops you from getting to the very back, that is not the same colour as the rest of the cabin.
Fault 3. The railing on the starboard side at the cabin doesn't meet the wall nearest to the door, the top of the two rails cuts short not metting the wall and the bottom rail is set to far to the left, leaving it slightly sticking out.
Fault 4. The name displayed on the plaque on the wheelhouse isn't correct, it displays "North Star" as Trawlers name when in actual fact the "Northern Star" is the correct name.
Fault 5. The anchors actually don't drop, they are still visible and a chain just "drops" insted without an anchor on the end.
Fault 6. The wheelhouse ceiling is a strange black colour which almost looks "not real",stare at it for a while and you will understand what i mean.
Fault 7. There 2 radars, which have the exact same display one to the left of the cabin one just above the steering wheel.
Fault 8. When the throttle is up the props move when the engine is turned off they still move.
Stay tuned for more updates and also,
please feel free to address any more faults you have found!
Kind Regards
IRI5HJ4CK
P.S. more topics about faults will be posted on other ships when i have took a look at them.

Errors.

Pleae not another errors thread :'(

If they can be corrected, why not!

All ships in ShipSim have this problem :-\

The correct name of this vessel is "North Star" just as it says on the forepart of the bridge. So you can forget that one as an error. Personally, I find that it is far more pleasure to pilot the ships than look for small faults. It is after all a ship handling simulator. BTW the two radar sets are on the same vessel so surprisingly enough they will show the same display, the scanners are only a few feet apart.
-
But, to "correct" these faults, wouldn't VSTEP have to edit the model, then put it all back in shipsim again?
-
They could release a patch fixing all the ships errors?
-
IRISHJ4CK,
Perhaps you could tell us exactly how YOU would carry out this task.
-
well, i'm not ship simulator so i don't know how it all works but i would assume that the ships model could be changed slightly to fix the errors in a patch install the patch and the errors are sorted, like i said i'm no expert so i don't know exactly. I'm only pointing out the errors so V-STEP could possably fix them, i only mean well.
-
J4CK,
Do not take things too much to heart, I know you have a good Irish sense of humour. ;D But if the vessel has it's name on the bridge front then that is her name not as you insist, "Northern Star". The north star or pole star is a specific heavenly object, wheras northern star could be any old star in the northern hemisphere. The fishing vessel is a specific ship (And a very nice one too) so she far better off as a specific star. ;) ;)

Go ahead and continue with your error posting :) It's as much valid as other error reports are for this game (if VSTEP really care about their game selling or not or if they just want to be known as a game developer that don't care to fix errors and bugs and just follows the game publishers commands).
-
haha, ok thanks guys, i do have a sence of humour alright, i've had an awful hectic week this week, not put me in the best of humour really, i'll remove my comments above and forget about them :)

They could release a patch fixing all the ships errors?
Thats how they could fix the Titanic to, theres a wave full of errors on that ship, thats where are all the hot spots... ;).Releasing a separate patch for every ship (completely separate) in the game that is found to have errors and in that patch it will contain the same parts but modified to the correct ones and even extras if the following ship needs.Thats an idea... :)

Fault 5. The anchors actually don't drop, they are still visible and a chain just "drops" insted without an anchor on the end.
Isnt it like that on all boats?
-
Isnt it like that on all boats?
Yes, but i thought it was worth addressing as its still a fault.
-
Well not really..
Something that is made on purpose is not a fault.. but just a feature, albeit an unrealistic one.. ;D
Some of these cosmetic things are unfortunate, but most, if not all of it, does not make the game any less good at it's "job"... Which is to simulate maritime operations, not to offer flawless ship models.. (Well.. they try to do both of course.. but sometimes they are not so flawless.. but you can still sail them just as good) :D
There are some people on this forum, present company excluded I must say, that point out many little cosmetic details.... However when I meet them online, they hardly seem capable of sailing a vessel at all and do nothing more than "goof around"... I guess not all of us play this sim for the same reasons.... I play it as it was intented.. even though I have no maritime background. :P :)
Some of these cosmetic bugs and flaws may be fixed in time... for sure they will be reported to the devs... But I personally can live with them for now.. If you've ever seen some of the high end commercial and military simulators you would know that graphics and detail are not at the top of their list.. so we're not doing too bad on the graphics front as it is anyway...
I'd prefer it if VSTEP would put their time to use on things like currents, tides, and those kind of factors that make this simulator more of a simulator.. But that's just me. ;D
Regards,
Fred

Yes indeed ;D

I know it's off topic, but if I had to list the 2 things I'd want the most in SS09, it'd be what Fred has listed above, and working winches on the tugs.
And for the sake of it, a third one, MORE tugs. :)
-
just something to add.... if you stand on deck and look through the portholes in the cabin on the northern star, the inside appears to be invisible.... i.e., there is no 'other side' to the ship.
Try it :)

Similarly, here are Titanic errors that the community, with myself, have found: http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,7179.0.html (http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,7179.0.html)

Thats how they could fix the Titanic
No. I think the Titanic is well past fixing - the iceberg saw to that ;)

Back in my younger days (which would still have made me much older than the mental age of several other people) I used to make model trains.
I'd spend hours making them from scratch- lathe turning parts etc, etc. Days of painting to get them right.
Then I'd take them to an exhibition and damned sure some spotty lid sod would take me aside and say: "It's not right though, is it? Didn't you know that this particular engine is supposed to have 317, not 316 rivets on the fuel tank access plates..." etc etc
How times (never) change.

The obessed just want accuracy ;) ;D

Perfection is something we should ALL aim for...
But few of you will ever manage to achieve the same level as me. ;)
-
.....and some of us aren't that conceited to even try :P :D
-
There are many modest people here... who have much to be modest about :P

I'm bored, so im gonna give it a try :D

If you look from the outside in the wheelhouse, there is no wheel ;D
(http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee229/mennojan/Shipsim2008_051408115048_052.jpg)
Navigation lights are the same color as the mast ;D
(http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee229/mennojan/Shipsim2008_051408115129_054.jpg)
The anchor chain isnt in a straight line with the winch. This is THE best way to destroy the winch and chain 8)
Bad, bad, bad designer...
Please, dont take this serious

lol ;D

I noticed this, it's the same with every ship, use the outside camera and there is an empty bridge :-X
