due to the fact that only 2, not 3, propellers on the Titanic could go backwards, the ship takes an eternityto stop. my question: from full speed ahead, if both engines are left on full speed astern, about how many NM does the Titanic travel before coming to a complete stop?
-
Depends on engine conditions.
-
I doubt SS08 has engine conditions. ::) ;)
-
The awnser... A long time. ;)
-
I know when at speeds higher than 4 knots you are not supposed to use reverse thrust to slow down my boat and I would expect the same to apply to the Titanic. :-\

Why don't you try it and see? Do you really need someone else to play your Simulator for you? ;)
-
Due to the lack of replies when I posted this, I did
-
And.....
-
innumerable times the ship's own length
-
I was hoping for something a bit more definitive than that. (like 2345.73 times it's own length if there is an "R" in the month)
-
I was in the middle of the water of the Mu Koh Phi Phi islands, so it was hard to be precise, but I got a feel for it
-
A really long itme :) I know so.
-
But the ship doesn't reach 23.75 knots in the game
-
So neither of you knows exactly then?
Did you really need to restart a long dead thread to not give us any information, TheTitanicExpert? ???
Go on, do tell. How long? You can round it to the nearest second. ;)
And where did 23.75 knots come from RMS Gigantic? You lost me there...
And as this was never about missions, I'll move it to "General Discussions". :D
-
Still Terry, the bump did serve a purpose as I had a good laugh from your previous remark. ;D

the best way to know how long it takes for titanic to stop,do a practice cruise with the following:the solent english channel, titanic, direction heading;south, calm day. and go untill you reach 21 knots.when you do revers the engines.
-
If I cared enough, I might do that. But I don't. ;)
I'm just teasing RMS Gigantic and others. ;D
Glad you enjoyed t, Fred.
-
Run her ashore and she will stop at once!!!!!
-

External sources give that as its top speed.
However, the ship's top RPM is 80 RPM
Making a coorilation, this leads me to believe that the ship's top speed is 23.75 knots when at 80 RPM
and since 75 RPM is the game's top, it leads me to believe it can not be obtained in-game
-
i think i read somwhere that titanic at full astern takes 2000 ft to stop
-
Run her ashore and she will stop at once!!!!!
I tried that in Phi Phi. It actually toko almost 10 seconds as I went up and destroyed a reef. ;D

Ever tried running the Ocean Star at full ahead in NY harbor and hitting a dock?
Over half the ship pokes out of the water!
-
now that is a ship that takes a long time to stop
-
Do you mean the Ocean Star? if you do, it does take a long time, but i suppose its good for the size of the ship.
Jack.
-
In my experience Ocean Star stops very quickly for a ship of that size - it's the azipods that help

at low speeds it is not to bad but them she is very big
-
what is the ocean star? where do u get it? where do you get the english chanel? are we talking about ss06? oh so many unaswerd questions!
-
This topic was made when I had Ship Simulator 2006.
I now have Ship Simulator 2008 and New Horizons, so the discussion has shifted accordingly.
-
Well as this still is the SS2006 board, it might be wise to try and stay on topic and keep it refering to SS2006, so you would avoid confusing like this.
Or, I could put it into the SS08 board for you if you want, as it is now an SS08 topic?!

Hi Speed Boater.
Just in case it wasn't clear from RMS Gigantic's response, those are all from Ship Simulator 2008. It's an excellent upgrade from the 2006 version (which was excellent of itself).
For some reason ('cos he's bought the newer version ;D), he is now talking about Ship Simulator 2008 in this Ship Simulator 2006 thread...
-
but is there a way to unlock new waters to sail where no ship has sailed? and mad fred how did you get that little slide show at the bottom of your post? can i get one some what like that?
-
Hi speed boater,
That animated signature was made for me from some screenshots I took by one of the forum members, Captain Bluebeard. (Formerly known as TJK).
You can have such a thing, but you have to have it/make it first to put it in your profile.
And no there are no secret waters to be unlocked. As Terry said, the things mentioned here are from SS08, not SS06.
Regards,
Fred
-
I forgot what board this was on after a while ;D
Moving it sounds nice :)
-
As you wish, I have moved it to the SS08 boards as it is indeed more about SS08 now.
Regards,
Fred

Went in through the front door o fthis message and came out in 2008. I'm dizzy now.
-
the ocean star stops slowly if you use the pods at 180 and very fast in reverse
-
But the ship doesn't reach 23.75 knots in the game
True. I find that Titanic doesn't. She can in SS06.
-
Hi THETITANICEXPERT.
Please don't wake up old threads unless you have something important to add.
Telling a Ship Simulator 2008 thread something that happens in Ship SImulator 2006, over a month after everyone had finished with it, just isn't the "proper thing".

If anyone is interested in measuring Titanic’s stopping distance, you can construct a test in the ME where you run her past—not through— a waypoint at the desired speed and go astern full abeam the waypoint. You can read the stopping distance on the HUD.
-
Wodner how long the real thing took :)

Wodner how long the real thing took :)
at 20 kn she too 777 meters
-
oh, okay then xD
-
Please do pardon me for necro posting but it just so happens that I have a stop watch and I will probably get her up to that speed and once she is at the top speed I will kill the thrust and see how long it will take her to come to a complete stop.
-

if you only have ss06 you can go to the home page shipsim.com and order in box or download the ss06 add-on pack which does include the ocean star (the cruise ship) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
well I was able to get her up to just 21.50 and from there I have done the all stop on the engines and the time that it has taken her to come to a complete stop was
H--M--S
00:17:31
H=Hours
M=Minutes
S=Seconds
