Has anyone managed to sink a ship in SS08 yet? The highest I've got is 98% damage, I left it for a long time but it didn't sink. I also started bashing up a large container ship, and despite making lots of dents in both my powerboat and the massive ship, including holes at the base of the boat, it didn't sink, apart from the fact that it showed 0% damage, even though you can easily tell that the powerboat was very holey ;).
The Physics processing seems a little bit sloppy in terms of damage. How does a bash to the far front of a boat damage the engines at the back of the boat? It seems to me that you can't get 100% damage from going full ahead into some rocks and repeating this process as your engines cut out before you can get there!
Don't get me wrong - overall I'm very happy with SS08, but I feel a bit let down in terms of the damage and sinkings.

I just got SS08 since this afternoon, and tried to sink the Red Jet 4. I ended up with some great holes in the bow. Then it became very slow :S. About 78% damage.
Edit: Is it right that the Arie Visser and the Pioneer don't take damage :S?

Damage to the front of the boat affects the engines by letting water get to them, which they do not like!
Duh!

good point mporter ;D Engines don't like water. KM
-
Well, my engine likes water a lot! If he doesn't get it, he get's overheated!
;D ;)
-
Nub Cake - I've managed to get the Red Jet to 86%, then it goes at crawling pace.
It should be possible for the Arie Visser and the Pioneer to take damage, but it'd be a little bit harder because they have rubber/inflated protection.
mporter - Lol, I forgot all about flooding the engines - but no water actually gets inside. The boat doesn't sink at all. That's why I'm asking - has anyone sunk a boat yet? Or got 100% damage?
-
I don't know but if you went out into the North Sea or the Atlantic sea if you hit an iceberg you may sink.
-
With damage on SS08 is there costs on damage like 2006? I found it very unrealistic the amount of money you caused E.G. in a taxi, crash into another small boat, cost: $1789321220 or something like this.
It made me fail far too many missions. and is there a damage threshold on 08?
Cheers

There is no damage threshold on SS08.

Ah, thanks.

maybe you all got 98% damage above the waterline, so that the ship is ruined but not sinks
try to distroy the hull below the waterline ;D

I battered the bottom of the powerboat on the bulge of a big ship. You could see the massive holes at the bottom, but it didn't sink, and the damage showed as 0%. ???
I've also made holes in the bottom of ships with the damage showing in terms of appearances and %, but they didn't sink either. This is very frustrating.
It seems to me that no one has sunk yet, but it's still early days. In real life, if you crashed a powerboat into a solid wall at top speed, the powerboat would get crushed and it'd blow up. In SS08, the front of the boat will be crushed a bit, and you'd get about 14% damage, and that's it.
Still, the visible damage is a step up from SS06.

Haven't managed a sinking yet. If anyone does, make sure to take some screenies!
-
i think u cant sink a ship becuz u can never get damage below the waterline

Not sure - I'm currently cruising round the Atlantic in early March looking for an Iceberg. ;)

Good luck.. you will only find them in the Titanic mission.

I've managed to get lots of holes below the waterline - but the boat didn't sink at all. The only thing that happened is that the engines got weaker and you could see the damage (it showed as 0% damage for some reason ???)

I`m sure there will be a patch to update this. After all, there are a lot of bugs that Vstep is aware of and SS08 is still in more of a beta stage. With new features, come new problems. They will be fixed over time (I hope...)
-
i also have SS2008 now, but i crashed every ship on everything, with 92% damage the most, but it din't sank, probaly ships only sink with 100% damage
-
:O
-
did that sink or did it just get pushed under a little?
-
Pushed under :P
Once I tried Free Roam -> Red Jet 4 -> Open Sea, I had a bad spawn and it gone under and sank :S.
-
i am now trying to damage a boat with 100% if that works, i will sendt a lot of screeny's ;D
-
i did a mission and i crashed very hard into an other boat, my damage report was 100% !
and there were a lot of holes in the bottom of the boat, so i guessed it would sink, but it dind't ???
so my mind is that ships can not sink :'(
-
Wi is thier a pcture of this on the website. If you sink does the life boat come up.

Sinking will be fixed in the next patch.
-
great! i can't wait.
when does the next patch release? ;D
-
Sinking will be fixed in the next patch.
Hopefully, I feel a bit screwed on the sinking thing :'(
-
I managed to sink the Pride of Rotterdam, even when I not tried to sink it.
On the mission with Pride of Rotterdam from San Fransisco to Phi Phi Islands, when entering Phi Phi Islands the boat starts bumping and the damage goes to 90%. the result of this is that the boat sinks half in the water. Probably is this a bug, because the map says 23m depth, but the depthmeter says just above 7m.
-
Nice :D Mabye a bug! :P But all will be fix'ed on the next patch! :)
-
I went in free-roam mode on the Phi Phi islands and managed to sink the Pride of Rotterdam
(http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/8821/shipsim2008070707200314dc8.jpg)
I only had 57% damaged ;D
-
Not quite a sinking, but a disaster nevertheless.

but with what did you collide?
btw it is only a shame that the ship doesn't dissapear completely under water, or that it begin to hang slant
i also did a freeroam mode on the phi phi islands but when i wanted to collide with an mountain, the ship started to climb, so i was steering the P&O to the sandbank ;)
-
In the demo for the 2006 version there was a container ship which had a bug and it nearly sinks it does a wheelie in the water and then the front of it lands back in the water and sinks under quite a bitthen it just pops back onto the surface of the water and carries on like usuall!!
-

Duh!
It's not too dangerous for engines to be completely under water, as long as the air-intake to the carborateur is over the water ;)
Take f. ex the old Land-Rovers, they have the air-intake on the side by the roof on the car. That does so they can drive with the engine under water :P (only for a short peroid then ;))

The FAQ says there's no sinking till the patch in a few months, except sinking from bugs that is.

Hello Sammson!
The "few months" is actually less than a month... From the SS08 FAQ:
http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,955.0.html
"Sinking ships
-The ability to sink ships will probably be introduced in the next patch (17th of August)"
But of course if problems occur, this release date can be postponed.

Excellent, mid Aug is just around the corner. I must say this version shows great potential, well done.

i can't wait! ;D
