For:
+ Get it now
+ Cheaper than if you got it in Austalia.
+ Replacement download with-in one year.

Against:
- Depending on your download limit (if you have one) could take up a large amount of usage.
- Have to download the patches later instead of it being in the release of AU game.

You weigh it up! I was going to download but I'm now most likely going to wait for the boxed one from the UK to come out on the Shipsim website.

I'm in the same situation as you :(

The download version is the same thing, its 647mb zip. You get the file and license key then you can install it.

would the developers allow me to back up the game by putting it on a cd?

Hello,

They will not stop you from burning it to a CD. The primary use of digital download is to allow users that option without having to go to the store to buy a hard copy. Feel free to back it up to a disk, they will not stop you and will most likely encourage it.

I do not work for Vstep all I know is from common knowledge. lots of it.

Is it possible though, some games are coded so if burnt to a DVD/CD the game becomes useless on the burnt CD. It's not common sense.

Every digital download that I have in my collection will alllow me to burn the file/s to CD/DVD.  Some require online activation to install/play them, so burning is not even a consideration.

I am not aware of any digital download that cannot be burned, which is in effect, just backing-up your purchase ;)

DJM.

EDIT: This includes Ship Simulator 2008, which I backed-up this morning :D

I couldn't seem to back up Age of empires 3 because when I put it in the computer it said: 'Please Insert The Disk Into Drive'
So ship sim 08 is not like this.

Also do you need a DVD CD or just CD

You only need a CD for backup purposes as it's 647mb, a standard CD holds 700mb ;)

For AOE 3, Microsoft would be better able to explain their policy in relation to backing-up their games ;)

Yes, most programs do allow to copy for CD. It's just SOME code the CD so it can't be burnt. For piracy. I can't blame them.

Have any of you who made a back-up copy checked if it will work.....i mean if it is possible to get the game back into the computer if you have uninstalled it by an accident?

If that is possible i will buy the game today instead of waiting for the boxed version ;D

Sorry if it`s some bad english in my reply ;)

I'm just a simple norwegian :D

The game is simply a ZIP file. So if you burn it to a CD it will work for sure.

This is not some ISO image with crazy copy protection preventing you from burning it.

Rince

I have a question about downloading the game....when you have bought the game, does the zip file come in an attachment in email than or is it just a link to someplace were the installation file is stored and we can download it from there?

And if the file come as an attachment, does anybody know if hotmail supports files at that size? :)

The questions may sound a little stupid for some of you but I need to understand this before i buy the game ;)
