Is Ship Sim 2008 compatible with Windows Vista? Specifically, is it compatible with Vista 64 bit? Wouldn't want to spend my cash and find I can't use it.
On another note, how about TrackIR? Is it Track IR compatible?
-
Yes i think it work perfect on Vista, less you got 2gb ram! :)
-
Yep running it now on 32bit vista , works great. Just make sure you give it full admin access otherwise it wont save anything, including the access code and any profiles. :)
-
I did mention 64 bit. All sorts of stuff works in Vista 32 that doesn't in Vista 64.
But thanks anyway, and I can now answer my own question as I bought it anyway. Yes it does run on Vista 64. And very sweetly with all the graphical details on max. But then I do have an 8800GTX to look at it on. ;D

Even updated game list in TrackIR does not show Ship Simulator 2008. I really miss TIR support.
-
Support for a third-party piece of software would be the responsibility of that software company, so it may be worth emailing their support or sales department ;)

:o No TrackIR?
I think a lot of people loved the previous game so much because of the freedom TrackIR allowed.
I think it's a shame that the developers didn't realise TrackIR was a key feature. I don't know of any other game that has removed TrackIR compatibility with an update.
I can't believe that you guys didn't know people used TrackIR in the previous game. Wasn't it a responsible thing to do for you to contact NaturalPoint, not the end-users? TrackIR compatiblity rests with the s/w manufacturer, not with NaturalPoint, I believe. They can't just update their driver - you have to do the groundwork.
Any chance of rectifying this with a patch?

I Second what Mackrel said. I couldn't believe it when I got it and it had no support for Track IR. I could finally use my multiple throttles, but I can't look around to do the close maneuvering with hands on wheel and throttles.... real major dissapointment.
-
I have vista and ship simulator 2008 works great on it.
(Just bought the new simulator today)
-
I contacted naturalpoint and said that they are waiting for a copy of the ss2008. I suppose Vstep will send one. I bought trackir4 and saitek av8r just for ss2006 and hoped to use them in ss2008 too.

I have vista 32-bit on a new computer, it works mighty fine. (Seems like I don't get the bugs some people are seeing) :|
-
Why oh why did you get the 64 version? ???
-
TrackIR support will be built in again, but it may not make it to the August patch. Maybe September. It's a simple matter of work overload of the responsible developers. You can use TrackIR in mouse emulation mode for the time being. To be honest we didn't realise that so many people used TrackIR in the game. My apologies to those who do.
-
That's good to hear TrackIR will be supported. I would think many people who play Shipsim are simulation enthusiasts. So many like myself are probably into flight sims, train sims etc. Since many flight simmers have lots of hardware to compliment their flying experience, many will have joysticks, rudders, throttles and the most recent addition, TrackIR.
TrackIR has almost become standard equipment amoung much of the flightsim community.

I have Ship Simulator installed on Vista Ultimate 64-bit version, based on a dual 64-bit CPU core, and it works fine!

(less u got 2gb ram )do u have problems if u have 2gb ram

Hi,
Is there any news on the above mentioned TrackIR support. I just got both SS versions (and addon) after playing ss2006 at a friends place. One of the features that made me love it was TrackIR, which has become a standard piece of sim kit for me with all the other stuff I play.
I was also a bit dissapointed to not see it in ss2008 but I understand that it has been overlooked. Is there any idea about when it will be implemented? I dont know how the technical bit works but you should have a "blueprint" for it from ss2006 right? or do you have to build in the support from scratch?
Pjotr, you mentioned september but I guess it could not be squeezed in in time, can you tell me if it will make it in Q4 this year? Or will it be longer because you guys are really busy with that announced 2006 Addon conversion?
Keep up the good work, I enjoy this sim a lot (but even more once TIR comes back) :)
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Fred

It seems that TrackIR is supportet now :)
Just updatet trackIR game profiles and shipsim 2008 is on the list.
Just tried it, and it works very well i think, but only at helms view.

Does Center and Enable keys work for you? I have tried different keys, F12, F10, Space, etc. but I can't center TIR in the game. Also z and y-axels were reversed, so I had to reverse them in TrackIR profile.
-
Have none of the problems you have. F9 is the enable-key and F12 centers the view.

I found my problem with TrackIR. It is not Ship Sim, but TrackIR software that does have problems in Vista. I reported my discoveries back to NaturalPoint:
