Ok, Im brand-new to Ship Simulator'08. I actually only got Ship Sim' 2008 yesterday.
I was just wondering, can you download free add-on ships to install into the game?
Or are new ships only available in the game updates?
Also, are there any free ships that I could download for the game?

ummmm u can't get free new ships but there is the 1.3v download the enables mp and in game save missions but the new horizons is a add-on but u have to pay to get new ships

If you would run a company,would you give everything for free??
I think your business would not last long.
To have new vessels in the game,i'm afraid you have to buy them.It is worth to have them in the game anyway.

You can only get new vessels, by downloading 1.2 or 1.3 or new horisons right?

Hi,
The Jetski and the Hovercraft could be obtained freely in the V1.1 patch.
(Or for new players, they are also in the V1.0 to V1.3 patch, as the V1.1 content is also included in that one, obviously)
The New Horizons Addon will be available for purchase in about a month.
The SS06 Addon, which is also payware, does give the owners of this addon the right to a free update. This means he or she can download the 6 ships that were in the SS06 addon for SS08 for free.
Other than these 6 ships, there will be 2 more ships in the NH release itself plus a new environment. (Which the SS06 Addon owners can download as single addons later, but also as payware)
I hope I cleared that up for you.

Well,you can't.
All vessels have to get converted,which only Vstep can do.

What do you expect, that they just give away their hard work for free?? Are you kidding us?
Nowhere does it say on the box "you get a load of free goodies if you buy this game"
You know what you buy, you get what you paid for.
You don't HAVE TO buy anything! no one is forcing you!
And then there is an additional present from the developers (jetski, hovercraft) and they constantly work to improve the game by free patches. (which I think is not something people should pay for, so no need to get into that!)
Why does everyone nowadays want everything for free. This p2p Torrent generation has lost track of reality I think... ::)

I can't see from your post what your current rank is ???, but there are at least 47 missions that you can do plus a free upgrade to include 2 vessels and 'Multiplayer', as Mad_Fred said 'What do you expect?'

He hasnt got his ranking icons because he hasn't registered his key yet. Only registered users have those.

Well, I don't know. Since he hasn't got a registerd key, his game stats are not being logged.
I guess you'd have to ask him. ;D

I do actually have Flight Simulator X where almost everythings free, and same with my train simulator. But if Ship Sim need to get money I spose they have gotta sell stuff. -.-

And Microsoft gave you that upgrade free because you had FlightSim 9.
And all those free aircraft are produced by Microsoft.

Said it before and gonna say it again. You guys are comparing apples to oranges. Unless VTEC is doing some other business where they are pulling in MILLIONS of dollars each month STOP comparing them to companies like Micrsoft, Sony, etc and to MMO games like EvE Online and WOW which charge a per month fee. This is a VERY high quality game made by people who appear to actually care about what they put in it. About 85 - 90% of the games out there make you pay for expansions (adding content) the rest charge you a per month fee which covers those cost or are from a huge company like Microsoft which overprices the *** out of thier products anyway.

VTEC should also try and do global textures instead of just certain areas... That'll prob' make this one of the best games out...

Maybe he is a previously Virtual Sailor user. It's common attitude around Virtual Sailor that everything made for it should be free no matter what. Generally spoken: If all computer games was free then they would not be made by humans but robots. Still the robots would need electricity to run.
The game industry need the money to make new game titles and new game technology since that's just the way this world is made. I believe that you don't have your own family or job and that the parents are paying it all for you. You will sooner or later find out someday when you are on your own what money is all about.
And by the way, not all add-ons for FSX are free. Same goes for Train Sim. I have many payware add-ons for FSX myself and I proudly pay for it just like I pay for this game and the content released by VSTEP.
If you have any trouble with that then you should seriously stop jamming on this board and simply leave the boat. :P

One of the idea's ,which run around in my head is?
The Elbe and Furie as an payware add-on,for all the harbours we have.Or maybe convert it complete,so we get that part of the harbour(were the ships normaly sails in)also in our game.
Just an idea??

I have been a user of Train Simulator for years and all the free material is created by users in their spare time NOT by those who work at it as a full time job.
I only looked at Shipsim with a "look, see" attitude as I saw it mentioned on the trainsim forum then I was "hooked". I bought it (didn't get it free) I bought the add on pack (didn't get it free) downloaded lots of missions (DID get those free as they were created by users in their spare time)
I even went out and bought a new computer that was man enough to do the job - now I'm wondering who should have given me THAT for free; the computer manufacturer or VSTEP because they made a game that needed a higher spec computer than the one I had.
I sure am glad that the company for which I designed equipment for their customers didn't give our designs and subsequent builds to their customers for free or they wouldn't have been able to pay me - or should I have been giving them my expertise and time for free?

Oh, and a "by the way". Would you please not use the name of the Son of God as an oath - it offends me big time. I haven't noticed anyone else doing it as most of the forum contributors are reasonable and friendly. Let's all continue to have respect for one another.
