Hello Pilot of the sea,

As far as I know it' a "direction finder".

VHF radio-signals as guide, or GPS signals so it could also be used as position-indicator to the next waypoint in GPS-navigation. For tracking a set course.
Maybe there is a connection in the game, with the waypoints. I'll have to check that !

i see..... well.... you know what i mean... i don't see. Is there any way of programming it? Changing the frequencies, or is it just decorative?

Hi,

I was editing, while you answered.

No not decorative at all; life's saving aquipment.

Receving VHF-signals at first (in the old days) to find the ship who needs help.
It points to de direction you need to go !
Later GPS directed in length and latitude degrees, to plot the course to a waypoint.
Modern GPS navigation aquipment is ofcourse programmable.

The aquipment is not connected in this game though.

ok. Wouldn't it just be a great thing if VSTEP created a navigational system. You could post this idea on the "Features, Requests and Suggestions" section. :)

You see this instrument a lot on yachts.

And on those it is used to point out the wind direction.

The number points out how many degrees the wind blows from your bow.

That is your compass, Pilot of the Sea. The number and needle are indicated degrees from north.

North 0
East 90
South 180
West 270

No problem, just wondering which of us was going mad. Must be you, this time. Usually, it's me as a result of the Marmite.
